  1. Gracias, Kai - As I said, I started out with only the top part, so I had to put some effort into it Thanks, Bart. As Gideon remarks below, it is meant to represent the disturbance of the water from where he just swam and surfaced. Ah, there will be even more brass and gold to come! I can die in piece now, having received praise for my photography from the master himself! (seriously - well, not about the death-part... ) Your comment about the vignetting is noted - I used it because the corners seem really bare, but I agree that the picture does appear rather dark. Thanks, Garm - The canoe did turn out well, and it is sure more fun than using the otherwise nice lego-version. However, I was looking for a less North American design, room for more people, and a sturdiness for ocean travel, so I had to design my own. Making the overall shape with blue pieces and then adding the texture with the trans-pieces really worked out better than I expected. I have far too many of them, so finding a use for them here was a pure bonus! Gald you like the water - the "rolling effect" was one of my main purposes of the build. And while we enlightened Corlanders might find ceremonial additions to practical matters odd, I am sure the Oleanders will find it much closer to home. (And I wonder why no one commented on my cleverly disguised jab at the Oleanders and their religion... ) Thanks, AS - Will you be joining us here? (Or did you already? I am loosing track! ) Thanks - actually, the light was rather bad, but with a tripod, automatic shutter, and long exposure time, you can get very nice pictures - For instance, I really like the shadows in the underwater section. With long shutter times, you avoid the need for articficial light, which often gives strange, uneven light on the build, unless you have skills and/or a really nice set up. Glad you like it! Especially the underwater part It was my intention to have the transwhites represent where the wave breaks, and where the canoe breaks the water. I am not sure I entirely achieved that effect, but I am glad you like it! Further, it is really nice to hear you like the canoe posing - that was one of the focal points of the build - having kayaked a bit, I was trying to recreate that feeling of flowing with the waves. Corals are a really good idea, and as I doubt this will be my last underwater scene (since I introduced a diving suit...), I will experiment with it in the future!
  2. I really like this small vignette. While the landscaping is simply, it works, and it has a clear composition with the tall part in the background, and important elements all directly visible to the eye. The idea of monkeys picking bananas is great, and I wonder if not some cultures have done something similar in real life. For some reason, the table does not annoy me so much in this build! Perhaps it is due to the better lightning or the inclusion of a clear border on the build. And I actually have to agree with you (although I suspect you meant it as a joke ) that the straw kind of fence thingy actually DOES work very well!
  3. Nice cave - from the outside it really works well, although the backside shot does expose the non-legoish look of that big piece. I really like your natives, btw!
  4. Very nice workshop - I like the overall composition, and it looks very fitting for a small workshop. The red/black and red poles look great, and the roof is nice. I agree that the roof should probably be raised above the arch, but the current layout actually works well. Will be looking forward to seeing more of Quinnsville!
  5. As long as this travels on paved roads, it seems perfectly fine to me - I really like how it bulges under the load - looks very realistic to me! I am not too sure one horse would be able to take this load cross country, but for the purpose of the delivery service, it seems very fitting! As to currency, I am pretty sure all nations share the dubloons - which is quite impressive, considering how long it took for he EU to get the Euro! On the other hand, all three kingdoms are formed by the dissolution of the same nation, and probably adopted the currency from there, so it makes perfect sense! I almost choked on my drink here!
  6. Generally, a very good build. I think you have a lot of nice vegetation, but overall, it looks a little too busy to me. Maybe it is the large variety in different types in a very small area. On the other hand, that is typical for rainforest, so I am sort of divided on this As to Kabels comment, I agree with you on the geological layers of the rock formation. The technique is not perfected yet, but I definitely see where you are going. Maybe horisontal plates instead will look more natural, and be easier to give a natural variation? I too would substitute the yellow for dark tan, or at least tone it down a bit - it does look a bit funky. However, not as much as the lime-green tiles and plates under the undergrowth. First of all, I am not a fan of tiles in landscaping, secondly, lime-green has to be used with caution. (As you might have seen on my xebec, not all liked the colour there either - Obviously, they were wrong, but still! ) Together with normal green, it often looks very funky and unnatural. One of my favourite details are the scribes tools! Very well done - great design! Another is that banner - I hope that we will see it again - unfortunately, it sort of blends in with the greenery in the background in this build. Your ruins are really cool - I like the departure from the traditional grey ruins - those (rather funky) colours work brilliantly! Overall, really nice entry!
  7. Or simply use them for your own soldiers, if they keep the uniforms of their former overlords!
  8. Nice to see some overall shots of the build! Same comments as elsewhere - good incorporation of that raised baseplate - it works well with all the vegetation. I think it might be improved even more, if some blue or grey bricks were built onto it, to give more texture and variation in the build. For some reason, it looks really strange with the minifigure standing on the yellow "printed ground", and I would suggest adding some plates for ground. I think that might be looking better. Lastly, I am sure Gideon will give some useful photography advice. I will just say, that it seems strange that there is only light on the build, and not the surrounding area. Are you using the blitz? I think maybe a more evenly, indirect lightning would be better. Personally, I use natural light, a tripod and long exposure times to get a more natural looking picture and fewer shadows.
  9. I would like to see both predators and prey from these factions, especially if there is an imbalance of some sort. And there is also the option of putting out bounties for ships or captains. (NPC or Player) But for the time being, I think we need to find our footing with the MRCA system and see where it goes based on player actions, before adding (too many) npc's If we start seeing supporting stories of NPC nations at war with player nations, there are also legitimate privateerring opportinities. Right now, at least, I can't see the Queen issuing letters of marque (privateering licenses) against nations with whom we are nominally at peace. Not without diplomatic repercussions, at least! On a different note: Can I register a property on Tiberia, or is that considered the old world?
  10. You can establish your own colony, when new islands are unlocked. Either by getting a charter, which means having it endorsed by your faction, or by "squatting", which basicly means claiming the land without permission. Obviously, the squatting option is very risky, as your government does not necessarily want to support your attempts - and might even want to stop them. Therefore, for your suggested storyline, I would suggest joining the sea rats and starting from there. It would be perfectly logical for a group of oleanders persecuted by the government to leave the realm and try to set up their existence free from government. However, as suggested above, it may also be done while still apart of Oleon, although I would think it would be harder to resist the order's attempts to convert you back to the one true faith. Hope this helps
  11. Indeed! And when the concept gets fleshed more out, perhaps they may even be members of the same scientific fraternity! :)
  12. That raised baseplate works better than I would have expected, and I agree that it looks like she might not fit... :P And an expedition upstream sounds very interesting. I might add that Lenny is not the only natural philosopher with an interest in the unknown ;)
  13. Cute little build and really nice storytelling! I like how you include Lyell's thoughts on the fisherman's situation, and wonder if we will see him again! Further, it will be interesting to see how you depict the lantern making process :)
  14. Followed by cheesy commercial for MAESTRO... :D
  15. I have no clue what the Dutch term is, but it basicly just means "balanced". The WR-vessels are the ones which does not focus on a specific trait like speed or cargo space, but balances out the different traits. So, good-at-everything, excellent-at-nothing kind of vessels. I hope that explains it As the project goes on, I am sort of hoping to get more chances to min/max ones ship, but customizing the stats to some degree. (So that we would not be limited to the predetermined classes.) I see how this would be a monster to manage, so for now, I am quite happy with the classes available. It is my understanding that most of these mechanics are kept secret. I just hope it will be the same for everyone, so no one gets preferential treatment!
  16. Vikings! The norse warriors are back - you shall all tremble and despair in the face of their wrath! (Unless you've got guns, that is... ) Very innovative entry, Maxim! You've really buried that ship very well, and I like the whole idea of introducing vikings. I shall be looking forward to the the next instalment about these stranded warriors!! Also, I am totally jealous off your longboat hull - I have wanted one for a long time - and for BoBS it may actually be a necessary purchase... Would be very nice for norse style trading ships.
  17. For predator missions: "If you are cruising for prey in the ocean, you will tell us which zone you are stalking, who you are stalking, any friends (up to 3 in a pack) you are taking with you, and how big of an enemy are you willing to attack." So anyone may choose to attack anyone, including their own faction, or choose only to attack one, two or three factions. Political concerns may come into play, and all actions can have repurcussions. 18. Nice looking ship, Mike! It does appear to be quite large, though! Looking it up on Wikipedia, I think the closest type would be Carrack (since it carries lateens on the mizzen, and has those high fore- and aftcastles.) Hmm, it seems Coyle and Co. is off to find further financing! Perhaps it could be registered as a class 4 T2 instead? The 300 is more reachable, and it packs a bit more of a punch. Of course, it lacks cargo capacity and speed of the 5 F... Hmm, I will confer with mr. Coyle. And I completely agree - hopefully the crown will assist with one of the royal vessels to escort it! And should someone decide to appropriate an excessive share of the proceeds, I suppose he could be taken to court? It speaks volumes of your basic rules when things like this becomes possible! It is really cool how people can build upon the system. Perhaps he should seek funding in the stock markets of Corrington (like Mike is basically doing)? Others might be interested in sharing the profits and risks!
  19. @Mike: Use your creative license Have you looked at Maxim's ship index? Then you can compare your ship to the others, to see where it fits in size-wise. Then pick the class depending on size and characteristics (trade, fast, armed, etc.), regardless of whether your ship is a Schooner, caravel, carrack, cutter, etc. Maybe you have a WIP shot of the ship, so we can give you some pointers on ship class? @Dee: Are you selling our broccoli!?
  20. I see no issue with this, although it would be nice to know what sort of craftsman's guild we are talking about. (If it is the guild for left-hand front-wheel spoke manufacturing for the royal carriage, it might be a bit narrow for such a widely available heraldry... ) Further, a picture would probably have been a nice addition, to know what heraldy exactly you are referring to.
  21. Exactly how I understand it - and I am in total accord with your rum parable!
  22. Great little build and interesting story. The use of palm leaves as shade is brilliant, although olive (if it exists) or similar might better represented "dead" plants. Of course, these shown may be recently mounted... The use of those capes is great too! I wonder if a town managed by a chinese would have a "china-town"? I really like your introduction of a "Chineesy" element in BoBS! This town sure is growing quickly!
  23. *A letter arrives by courier to Aiden Coyle, bearing the seal of the Montoya family* To Captain Aiden Coyle, esq. Your plans for an expedition to the New World has come to my attention, as has your struggles in ensuring the necessary funding. As a natural philosopher, I have a particular interest in the culture, flora, and fauna of these yet undiscovered regions, and wish to support efforts in further exploration. Therefore, I hereby present you an offer to support your expedition. I am willing to invest 45 golden dubloons (appr. one quarter of the license) in your expedition, against a 20 % share of profits and the promise that you will bring me any interesting specimens and artifacts you should encounter. (Preferably alive and well!) This offer is contingent on acceptance by the Crown, as well as full funding of your venture. I shall very much be looking forward to your response or counteroffer. Best regards Don Isaac Montoya Natural Philosopher.
