Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Better to organize by part, or even better by color and part, at least for the more common colors Although I have to admit that I'm starting to put some parts together again with different colors as it's easier to find a tan curved slope among light and dark bley curved slopes than having to find it jn the "assorted tan parts to few to merit their own compartment" box... -
Very nice interior, especially the upper-story workshop! The exteriors are a little bit too much wood for my understanding of SG, but looks great I like the roof and the row of hands on the small house. Are those violins custom parts btw? UoP +1 for the claims.

Five simultaneous MOCs of 48x48 sound like a substantial investment in bricks! I hope you can keep some of them completed to be photographed together (if they are designed in that way?) Any chance that something might be displayed on one of the Swebrick exhibitions in Norrköping or in Uppsala this fall...? Anyway, nice to hear that you are using your limited time for building! -

Welcome to Historica Haarits Runeseeker! Great to hear that such a fearless ranger is battling those orcs, and those animals sound like you want to be friends with! However, sir Gideon highly doubts the claims of what that stick can do (Out of character: gunpowder is not widely used, or at all, in Historica. This was a decision taken to keep the world in a more high fantasy setting. What little gunpowder some alchemist might be making is considered to be more dangerous to the user than anyone else ) -

Great job with the landscaping and very nice minifigs! This looks promising for the Mitgardia challenge -
Very nice Kaliphlin build! I especially like the clever path design and the elephant barding. Nice detail also with the "closed" inverted arch above the gate (if I'm seeing it correctly?). Thanks for the credit! I'm honored and happy that my vision of Kaliphlin architecture is getting more established

Wonderful introduction, welcome to GoH! So much to like in this MOC, but especially the half-timbered section and the tree trunks caught my eyes here

I think it definitely could work, Historica would be an even more diverse place with a tribe of fallen elves It sounds as it can be done by starting with a focus on the characters (small MOCs, centered on a few minifigs) and be expanded to include their dwellings/surroundings/fortifications/army/... as much as the brick and time budget allows. -

Not sure if the GoH subforum is the best place for another sticked topic with info to new builders, not directly GoH-related. Maybe in the general History forum? Gabe's excellent tutorial should be made available to new builders in some way at least, maybe include a link to that post in the GoH new member guide? As much as I like that the Kaliphlin thread is very active now, it feels like it's sliding a bit off topic? So, what is going on in Kaliphlin except for the battle of the Wither Woods? I'm still one-armed but hopefully I will get rid of the plaster a few weeks before LFW in late September, and in that case a part of Barqa will be built for that show -

You would have to work very hard to fill 1TB with pictures of MOCs! Even if you also use your account to upload private photos (as a backup or to share with family and friends) you still have plenty of space. I believe that the main difference with a free account is that you have to endure some ads. The difference was bigger before when a free account only could have a couple of hundred pics. -

Flickr is a great service to handle the pictures, very easy to export the BBCode to include suitable downsized previews here with links to the full sized pics there Just make sure to delete the pesky extra links that appear below the pics when pasting the code from flickr -

Prince of Persia sets are an excellent starting point for Kaliphlin MOCs! Start building already So glad I started collecting at the end of the PoP run, even though I didn't buy enough by my standards now... A note on quoting btw is that it's good to only quote the parts of a long post that are relevant for the response and avoid quoting pictures. Especially good for us who are mostly reading the forum on tiny iPhone screens... -
Very innovative parts uses! The "LD-ish" irregular shapes are also excellent, especially the roof

Very nice overall design and excellent parts usages

Very comprehensive list Gabe! I can only agree with most of it, especially that plates are essential in larger quantities than I expect when buying them... -

Looks awesome DM, I would love to attend some time! This year is not very suitable however as our second kid is due in mid-November On another note (to someone who has been browsing the MOC card list for LFW Skaerbaek) is that I've signed up a substantial Barqa MOC...the only problem is that it's all in my head still It's stated as 10k bricks and 6 weeks building time so that's what I have to aim for...

I agree that starting relatively small and expanding the collection based on how your style develops is a good idea. I had relatively few tan/dark tan pieces when I joined Kaliphlin but as I find out what pieces I usually need more of I tend to visit the tan and dark tan categories each time I make a BL order and see if they have reasonably prized pieces that complement my style -
Great continuation of the story, and well illustrated with these builds! I love how you've done a microscale version of the same build and especially like those microscale towers. The SNOT rockwork around the gate in the minifig scale build is also very nice On the possibilities for improvements side (hard to find here!) I can't help to think that maybe some color variations and/or some subtle plant life (like the dark green/sand green in the microscale build's foreground) would enhance your rockwork even more, I also think that the microscale would have come out even better with a lower aperture number, as the resulting decreased depth of field would have made the individual pieces in the background less apparent then and improved the forced perspective illusion.

Very nice addition to your city! I think my favorite part is the naval game room UoP + 1 for both mosaic and interior design.
