Dump Truck question
gti180 replied to Rishab N's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
this truck would be so cool if you could go a step further and turn that dump bed into a skip loader -

Model Team Definition
gti180 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would consider some of my work to be model team. Technic chassis or Technic guts with Lego blocks for the finish. -
Am I the only one to shorten the chassis to improve its turning circle? http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5412984

MOC Sharing Dilemma
gti180 replied to Cumulonimbus's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I wouldn't be making anything if it wasn't for seeing Dennis Bosman website by mistake. That brought me out of my dark ages and got me interested in engineering again. I also think LDD files and other programs help people find career paths in CAD related jobs. I don't believe any MOC can be a 100% original, all of the things I make are inspired by things I've seen other people and Lego themselves do. sharing pictures and taking time to help others on forums are what make us a community and that's part of the enjoyment. I do agree with you in part though, someone shouldn't be making money from your hard work at least not without credit being given to the builder. Should anyone be allowed to make money from something that is ultimately a LEGO brand that none of us own the rights to????? -
X-22 Engine MOC
gti180 replied to JohannesESTONIA's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling

My LTM 1350 6.1
gti180 replied to Zwergi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
very impressive. How are you going to lift that boom its huge! -
Thats something I learnt a long time ago the picture below shows the drive train for a mobile crane i was building. at the time Lego parts didn't include shorter uv joints and stronger diffs. i struggled with this problem for ages then I changed the gears to suit the clutch gear and eureka!! something else that's worth thinking about is sharing the load between more than one motor and reducing the distance between the motor and its application - the shorter the distance the less resistance the motor will have to compensate for

LEGO Gear Power Test
gti180 replied to uefchen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
this test shows torque and build strength not power. if you want to get some figures from this test you could try attaching a fishing weigh scales instead of a nail. -
Old Truck Version 2
gti180 replied to gti180's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Manged to get a bit of work done on the weekend. the trailer axles need reducing a bit because the arches are too big and look odd. Also, need to reduce the amount of steer on the last axle. http://theplasticbrick.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/lego-old-truck-mk2.html Milan, I'm still unsure which wheels you mean do you know the code? -
Old Truck Version 2
gti180 replied to gti180's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the comments. a flatbed would work but I've wanted it to tow more than one trailer. - Maybe if I build a twin axle flatbed it might be a bit more interesting to build. Milan, which wheels did you have in mind? I have a few different types but non that have a 50s look to them -
Old Truck Version 2
gti180 posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
First time I've posted a topic.. Could do with some help on this, I would like to add two trailers to this truck but haven't been able to find much online in the way photos to inspire me. The truck still needs a bit more tidying up but should be finished soon. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/gti180/oldtruck/photo_15-03-2014_16_32_29.jpg -
Selling copied MOCs
gti180 replied to Pat-Ard's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
credit should always be given to the maker / designer. It is your hard work that has made those mocs possible not anyone else's -
something i really miss is a decent box it used to be an exciting thing to open a box that was well presented. also, a small technic creator set each year with only a few hundred basic parts a bit like the education sets. would be really interesting to see the creative mocs that people could build from them
