Not bearings - these function as physical stoppers so the upper circle wont bend over too much when the mast is rotated. -

PLUTONIUM, sincerely from periodic people. -
I have a little bit of bitter feeling of dissonance. Model of AUTONOMOUS vehicle is all MANUAL. Don't get me wrong, cool vehicle and no - I don't suggest implementing mindstorms program-ability in it. But of all of the sets don't you feel like this one should've been powered? Think about it - it has a descent size to fit functions and the tail bit is screaming to put a battery box inside as a counterweight. Do you guys think they have a "add motor set" plan on this one? Or did they scrap motorization somewhere along the way but kept the frame size?

This sounds so sad - seems like a lot of gearing and stuff will no longer be required. I mean before that we relied on mechanical implementations of functions like gearing up or down to control speed or making motorized switches and valves, used springs and rubber bands to mimic servo's work but this new approach means that all will be done digitally by software. It certainly has some upsides and downsides. For example with digital control you can get rid of a lot of parts and make model more compact and lightweight. UPS - compact and lightweight, possible programing ability DOWNS - get rid of a lot of parts I mean I sometimes buy technic sets just because they have all this gearboxes inside them for example I bought Unimog just to admire mechanical aspect and boy do you people remember 8043 gearbox? What a beauty it is. I'm excited to see how this one will turn out -

How on Earth is Porsche outdated then? If there will be a change I suggest to put 8880 in the background. -

Sometimes this actually happens. Bare with me as I have examples! There is this company called Virgin Galactic which designed a tourist spaceship with unique pivot wing. To skip right to the case - when the ship accelerates the aerodynamic forces can pivot the wing if it is unlocked which will cause the ship to sudden surprise self disassembly into irregularly shaped parts right in the air . It is safe to unlock the wing pivot only after reaching 1.4 mach. In an obvious manner we can assume that the "unlock switch" can only be switched either in test mode or after reaching 1.4 mach. Guess what - not the case. The switch could be switched at any speed, there was no safety built in which caused loss of the co-pilot's life and the ship and a slowdown in a cosmic tourism. Or a more grounded example - iPhone's "you're holding it wrong" comedy. One may think that a huge company like Apple which planned to sell millions of devices surely had a focus group to test the call function of the device prior to launch. Guess again - they had to redesign the antenna eventually. Or another one from the same corp. - "We observed that people are holding a phone either in their hand or charging it 99% of the time so there is no need to make structurally strong frame to prevent the phone bending in a pocket." I think you know what happened next... Sometimes the focus group is an awful representation of targeted customers. Looking at new controller I see this: Only if TLG allowed the thing to rotate in full 360 any direction. But If they allowed only 90 degree increment turns in half a circle clockwise or counterclockwise so the minus is never up and plus is never down - maybe it's ok. + or + | or | + -- I almost feel a deja vu from videogames when playing in thirdperson with gamepad sometimes makes you to rotate the camera 180 degrees and if you where moving at the time - your "up or forward" became "down or backward" and you actually have to stop moving and re-engage controls or reset the camera back so your brain won't be confused. I'm nearly 100% certain this happens near the places you can fall off of or loose a battle or something. -
New Technic Background?
Omikron replied to Aventador2004's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Why should the picture be changed in the first place? New sets are released every year and being "better" is very subjective. Some people may consider studded sets to be better, some people may think their original creations are better than official sets etc. Porsche was released in the summer of 2016. It's just 2 years. Outdated is also subjective. P.S. are you the one who buys new iPhone each year? -

Leave the background, it is good enough as is. Why should chiron be there anyway? Why not the terrain crane for example? -
I'm so excited to see this set! A wonderful job with the review! However do you guys see a huge downside about this whole concept? I can't find any extension cables for this type of connector which makes the concept very limited in size =(

General Part Discussion
Omikron replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The overall climate is continental type but parts are stored in cardboard boxes from sets they originated from in a usual habitable room with air conditioning and heaters to keep 24 Celsius on average. And humidity drifts from 45-ish to 75% during the year. I usually import lego from USA and EU depending on price and shipping cost. It still beats local prices. UPD - all of the parts that are listed below are affected by this + some additional variations of them. I believe they came from 8070 car and 8110 Unimog and from 8436. Colors affected - Light bluish grey, Red, Black, White, Yellow, Dark bluish gray. And U joints - they always fail despite everything =( Oddly enough I have never had a failed gear or a pin. Like NEVER EVER for the past 30 years. I had a defective shock absorber spring once in 9398. But TLG admitted there was a whole batch of defective ones.- 5,465 replies

General Part Discussion
Omikron replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
1 or 2 mocs at most, sometimes they crack right away sometimes they don't. I literally need to buy a bunch of NEW ones of each type of connector / u joints / crossblocks for each moc from a bricklink and they still will crack!!! Light bluish gray stuff is most vulnerable, then comes red and black+white parts share the third place. And I'm not talking about old stuff from 2004 or so. These are the parts from from 2014 and on. And boy those 3L U joints are as fragile as smartphone screens against concrete. Some times A whole half part just falls of of them as soon as you insert an axle. BTW I'm not applying excessive force or use 3rd party parts or modified stuff or anything, they just brake apart... For the last 10 years I have only one of the yellow half bush cracked for example. The grey ones still crack now and then but I think I have less than 10 of them failing during the same 10 years. It's just so sad- 5,465 replies

General Part Discussion
Omikron replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi all! I recently ran into an old problem which haunted me since my childhood. Most of my parts that contain "bush" part in them are cracking like crazy.I can take literally 100 parts and about 80 % of them will crack upon inserting an axle in them. It is literally a plague for my lego collection. And it is so frustrating! I must admit that these parts are not under stress or heat or humidity extremes. Kept at plain simple room temperature and being stored in the original cardboard box or a zip packet. Any part that has this section be it either a connector, a bush or a joint. I noticed that tactile feeling from these parts is kind of different from which I had when I unpacked them or used at the first time. New part have some tactile flexibility or elasticity of some kind and the ones that cracked fell more dried out and brittle. The plastic feels almost "thinner" than it was. I try not to use them a lot but the whole experience is becoming alarming and frustrating. If anybody has the same problem - can you suggest a solution?- 5,465 replies

Found the culprit of the madness. One of the cylinders is from Unimog set (an older version of the cylinder) and it was causing inconsistency with other cylinders. It has about 2 seconds delay until it fires. Lubed it with silicone lubricant and it didn't help. Maybe there is a bit of junk inside but from my tactile feedback it feels like there is a notch inside the cylinder which causes problems. I will use it in less critical application or somewhere where the abrupt action is a benefit. Thanks everybody for the help! Much appreciated!

My initial thought was to use some-kind of buffer to equalize the pressure before it hits the cylinders like this white or blue air tank. In big things like excavators in real life they use tiny pressure sensors to get readings and to equalize the pressure from the buffer cylinder which is either built in the whole assembly or is added in the chain before the actual cylinder. Electronics provide feedback to the system so it operates smoothly. There is nothing like this in Lego which has it's own benefits like pricing. I will try the idea with tank a little bit later since the mechanical link is not an option. Also may try getting more cylinders. By the way - what's your impressions on the pneumatic 2.0 manual blue pump. In my experience it outputs less air volume with less pressure compared to older yellow one. But it has somewhat better mounting options. UPD. I highly overestimated availability and underestimated pricing on the air tank part =(

So you suggest to get more cylinders and match them according to their performance? This is the most simple but the most expensive way but I get it. Any alternative suggestions are always welcome :)

Omikron replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hello, is there any suggestion about what PF 2.0 is about? Bigger cylinders, new motors, different remote control unit or battery boxes? I'm dreaming about round wires that can go through an pinhole and not these flat ribbons that are stiff as plastic itself =) And lights, definitely new lights! Should've got them by now.
