I'm eyeing that advent calendar interestedly also. Surely it isn't like the ones they sell?

How do we know if Mixels are male or female? I've been considering them non-gendered when viewing and playing with them. Does the cartoon treat them differently?

For kids like my daughter who snap them up everytime they get money in their hands? She's all about the animals, doesn't really like the princesses.

I play Minecraft and have never heard of a Nether Train. Do they mean track laid in Nether and railcarts running along it? (In which case, will there be the Portal on both ends?) I know people do that to get across the world faster. Or is there something else?

LEGO Elves 2017 Discussion
Sarah replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Agreed. Though I guess... Maybe they steal stuff? So mischievous stealers rather than a Big Bad like this year. But... it still sounds not promising. Though I do like green. -
Disney has said Moana will not have a love interest. The big guy is a deity/sidekick type.

Or maybe she dyes her hair :) I am constantly amazed how many of the older moms I know dye their hair. BTW, grandma seems to have a double-sided head (Two faces)

That is SO much cheaper than I expected. I was expecting US $150 at minimum!. Now. What to buy with the leftover. Will it enable the Elves Castle? Or the Friends Roller Coaster.... Or maybe I will get two to have extra train parts to make our own cars. (I foresee an annual tradition of putting together the Lego Winter Train after presents are unwrapped on Christmas day. Something for adults to do while the kids to play with their new toys and the kids can join in if/as they want as well.) Kids are currently ages 5 and 9.

I also think it will work well for my 5 and 9 year olds. I'm thinking an annual tradition of putting together the Lego train -- perhaps after opening Christmas gifts (since the period before is often too busy to add anything too)

Fabulous! DO not worry about it not being 256 high. Even on the game, I have not yet found a place that is solid blocks all the way up to 256 high. You need to be in Extreme Hills to get up to 100 high with blocks. I have not run into a mineshaft or spawner in game yet. :( But that long lava drop is very familar! And the creeper hiding in the shadows.

I remember when Hasbro bought WoTC. IT was a good thing for WoTC shareholders. (A friend of mine had shares she had purchased from artists who preferred cash in hand to the freebies and possible future cash that shares represented.) But even then there was grumbling. They do not seem to have damaged the game though, which is a good thing.

I live in Texas. We often go out and ride bikes on Christmas Day.

I, too, am hoping for a passenger something or other. If not we may have to try to make something. Need somewhere for all our minifigs to travel! Or maybe the tree flat car will become a "float" for them to stand.

I have been looking for a train to put under the tree for three years now. Didn't want to pay the price for the last Lego one. Thought about buying the Lone ranger train and modifying it myself. Looking at non-LEgo trains that are in the stores on sale and sold every Christmas (Usually priced at $50-$70. But I've seen them higher). When the rumor went out this year that Lego was coming out with another one, I stopped looking and started saving up money for one. I am, in fact, thinking I need to jump on this set before it sells out. I waited too long for the last Winter Village set I was thinking about and this is a must buy for us.

This. Esp because I'm pretty sure a "Men of NASA" would be a problem all the way around. Unless-- has that been done before and I just missed it? As a parent of a boy and a girl, sometimes the lack of one half frustrates me -- no matter which half it is.
-
I sort of like the idea behind the Women of NASA project, but I have no interest in a "Minifigures on a background" display on the wall thing. It feels like it is trying to get around the no minifigures only rule and that strikes me off. I'd rather have the figures doing something. So a Sally Ride (the only one I'd heard of before) standing on the stairway to the shuttle, etc. (And no Christa McAuliffe :( ) My husband is a mathematician and might be interested in the mathematician one. Though probably not just on a lego background. Oh I see there are also 4 mini-dioramas to go with it. This is the first time I saw that. Again, its not really one set. Its a set of stuff. Though I guess they have done that before... I won't be surprised either way I guess.

IF there are not tracks available in the set itself -- how difficult is it to get rail outside? I figure a Winter Train is for two purposes -- 1) Run under the tree or 2) Run around the WInter Village. For both purposes, one needs track. Not necesssarily Power FUnctions -- its perfectly fine for kids to have to power those trains themselves. But they do need track to run on.

My kids LOVE those videos!

The Brave/Merida archery set also had cookies. I wonder if they were put in here to reference that this was for Merida and not for Robin Hood.

I'd like to see Small World!

I thought the exact same thing after watching my then-7 year old trying to decide which of two particular Superhero Lego sets in his price range to buy. He decided simply on one set having a female character and the other having none. He plays really well with his little sister -- even enjoys putting together Friends sets (the Heartlake balloon most recently) and Elves dragons. And will even play with her minidolls. But when it comes to minifigs, he wants male characters.

Star Elves kind of reminds me of Elfquest elves.

Agreed. You might check out the Juniors Cinderella's Carriage for a 4 year old. I find that line of sets works great for my 4 year old. (And some of the smaller regular Lego builds as well. Such as the Palace Pets palace she is getting for her 5th birthday)
