General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Seaber replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
If the Black Pearl is released from the bottle in the next film, an updated version would be good. Flying Dutchman, Chinese (Hai Peng/Empress) and British Navy (HMS Dauntless/Endeavor/Interceptor/Providence) would all be good ships from the first four films, and most could come with both good, bad and generic minifgs. Singapore and Shipwreck cover are pretty important locations, but it would be amazing to get Tortuga or Port Royal (although maybe Tortuga is a little too raunchy for a Lego set). Tia Dalma's Hut and the Island Jack and Elizabeth are marooned on could work as smaller sets. Excited about this new film too. As long as some familiar faces as well as Jack's appear, I'm sure it will be pretty good. -
What is the likelihood of getting (at least) one more LOTR Wave?
Seaber replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This isn't proof at all, but the fact Gimli was shown on the back of the Azog box makes me think we'll see more from LOTR. I've no idea if it sells well, but it's popularity on here and among AFOLs in general seems to be high. Probably not as high as Star Wars, maybe on a par with Super Heroes. There is so much potential as well. There are so many interesting and attractive set opportunities; characters, locations, creatures, that is there is another wave, Lego won't have to scrape the barrel for set ideas. -
First MOC - LOTR War in the North-Carn Dum Citadel
Seaber replied to Snickers3112's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Especially like the Elf, very cool figs. I agree this game should be (spiritually, at least), part of the PJ canon :) Very nice MOC, any chance we'll see any more from this game? I made a Fornost once but broke it up before pictures! The rocks look very much like to ones in official sets, but with your own twist. Good job!- 11 replies

I can't think of many recent hits Lego haven't got licensed yet. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Marvel, DC, Pirates of the Caribbean and LOTR/TH are all huge franchises, probably only beaten by James Bond. Possibly with the recent films Star Trek could work, I don't know. Otherwise, more Disney/CN lines I imagine. I hope this line gets multiple future waves, but a 'Diagon Alley' set to finish with would be amazing.
-
But with LOTR, there are three films worth of material to draw from, so naturally some locations or characters will take longer to be released than others. The Hobbit is going to be taking each film as it comes (most likely). Possible spoiler, highlight to reveal:It's possible Smaug might die during DOS, so perhaps this wave is the best one for him to appear in. If they don't appear this wave, Thranduil and Beorn will appear in TABA, with Radagast and Azog Likely too. Galadriel could appear in any Hobbit or LOTR wave.
-
Arwen wasn't heavily involved in the action, but was important to the arc of the story. However, it makes sense to hold back some characters to keep interest high. Also, the next LOTR wave looks likely to be ROTK heavy, so fingers crossed! I think the only real issue with Smaug is size. The T-Rex from the Dino Attack range looked horrible, but the larger molds of recent years are of better quality. Lots of people want a brick built Smaug, but at a large size, he might be flimsy. Either way, Smaug will be expensive. I'm hoping that after TABA, we get another wave going over scenes missed out in original waves. The Troll sequence and Rhosgobel could make good, diverse sets. It would also be really nice to get a video game.

Nothing is certain, but I'd be surprised if Smaug didn't appear. Recent Castle waves have had dragons, so they must sell. Recently there have also been a lot of large, molded creatures; Rancor, Wampa, Cave Troll, Goblin King, Hulk. Whether brick built, molded, or somewhere inbetween remains to be seen. Radagast, Beorn, Thranduil, Azog, Thrain, Galadriel. All these characters will play a major part in DoS and non have seen a widely released minifigure yet. However: Azog is almost certainly going to be in a set sometime. Galadriel can use the same hairpiece as Arwen, so so no new molds need creating. The others would all need new headpiece molds. Radagast could re-use Gandalf's beard, and Thranduil could possibly adapt the standard Elvish hair. There are lots of characters with costume variations who would only require new printing, Elrond, Bilbo and the Dwarves. Then there are a few characters kept quite tightly under wraps. Bolg, Narzug, Bain, Alfrid and the Necromancer all play parts, though it's not clear how big these roles are yet, and whether they're worthy of a minifig. I think we'll see another two or threeGandalfs this wave, but at least other repeats have the chance of getting a new print, such as Thorin. High Fells - Gandalf, Radagast (based on the High Fells scene from the preview) Mirkwood Elves - Thranduil, Azog, Two Mirkwood Elves, Orc (based on the battle from the preview) Beorn's House - Beorn, Gandalf, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur (based on book knowledge, randomly selected three Dwarves. Unfortunately this comes before Lake Town where they change outfits) Lake Town - Bilbo, Throrin, Bard, The Master, Guard (actual set) Dol Guldur - Galadriel, Elrond, Gandalf, Saruman, Thrain, ?Bolg, ?Necromancer, Two Orcs (based on the idea that the White Council attack Dol Guldur. Remove one of the White Council Members (I hope Saruman). Bolg was present early in production, but this might have changed now. Not sure if the Necromancer will take part in the battle.) Erebor - Smaug, Bilbo, Balin, Dwalin, Dori, Nori, Ori (randomly selected Dwarves) This list gives only two repeats (Bilbo and Gandalf) which are the same figures as in the first wave, but we got an extra Bilbo then. The last Hobbit wave introduced 12 new minifig molds, not including the Great Goblin, so that leaves 8 after Azog's hand, head, the Master's hat and the Lake Town Guards helmet. It's definitely possible. I'm hoping that maybe another set will be released later in the wave, possibly Erebor with Smaug, leaving room for another set to include Kili, Fili, Oin and Gloin.

I'd rather their armour was printed, but the helmet may then make them look too bulky, like Uruk-Hai without the armour.

I only have the Wizard Battle and Council of Elrond so far, although I intend to get the others. I doubt any of them will beat CoE though. It has made me display my Lego models for the first time ever, so it gets my vote.

To be honest, there aren't very many DS gunners in the films, so two is a good number in a battlepack. I'd rather that one of the Guards was replaced by an imperial technician or black suit. Could these minifigs hint at a new ISD or Imperial Shuttle? Battlepacks tend to be released near similar larger sets. I'm hoping for both!

Fair point, but TTT set could feature Hama and Sharku. It would be expensive to get a Warg cavalry going with just one in the set. Obviously they won't be restricted to just one set. It'd be cool to see more trolls too with different prints.
-
I think brown Wargs and Rohan printed horses would be ace, so a Two Towers Warg Battle set would be great.

Beorn in bear form is about ten feet high according to the first picture. The Lego bear is eight bricks high, according to the second link. http://heirsofdurin.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/beorn.jpg http://images.wikia.com/lego/images/0/07/Cabin_side.png I think that mold, with some good printing, could become Beorn. His human form has an outlandish design, his bear form is basically a bear.

Tatooine just makes sense, now with various shades of tan and with good dome pieces, the Cantina, Lars Homestead and Ben's hut can be made well. Hopefully Cloud City will follow in the footsteps of Orthanc/Ewok Village. I like this return to the single-side battle packs. Hopefully now we can get more variation in rebels, such as pilots or generals. I'm excited to see the Utapau warriors!

PJ has said that all the dwarves will get their moment in these films. Thorin, Balin, Kili and Fili will probably be the biggest throughout, with Dwalin and Bofur supporting. In AUJ Oin, Gloin, Dori and Ori got a fair few lines, whilst Bombur, Bifur and Nori were relagated to almost nothing. The next film will probably flip this around. It's a shame they don't get equal development, but with fifteen memebers of the company, compared to nine in the fellowship, it's easy to see why. The dwarves were designed so even just their silhouette, or basic shape can be easily recognised. This is important in scenes like the Stone Giant sequence.

I doubt we'll get all the Dwarves in this wave. It looks as if there will be three main outfits for each: Up to Lake-Town, between Lake-Town and BO5A and BO5A armour. It would be good to see all the Dwarves outfits, but I doubt we will, except for Thorin and maybe a few of the more prominent Dwarves. I think we can expect the blue coated Bilbo (not the market scene one from the Target Blu Ray) which he wears when he meets Smaug. It would be nice to see some Gandalf variation, but other than hat/hair and cloak/no cloak there isn't a lot to do.

Exactly! The Weta designs may not be to everyone's tastes, but the characters look unique and recognizable. The appearance of the Dwarves and Beorn in cartoon adaptations and paintings may well look more 'Tolkien', but would make for a very bland adaptation. http://i.imgur.com/Npsn2TG.jpg Here is the somewhat grainy but completely SPOILER image of Beorn if people have not seen it already!

Death Start Troopers, Kashyyyk Troopers and possibly up to four of the new recruitment sets depending on minifigs. I'm glad of an inexpensive wave once in a while!
-
He looks fairly simple to me, new hair mold and he's sorted. His bear form may be more difficult though. I don't see the similarity to Sonic or most other comparisons drawn. It's too early to tell, but it would have been too easy to make him look like Hagrid.

If there are no OT sets, at least I'll have a wave to save money, or play catch up! Does this list mean that ISD will come with a DS trooper, Kashyyyk trooper will come with a vehicle and the X-Wing will come with a minifig? Or are there going to be four planet sets? I imagine that Gondorian helmets may have little holes in the side, where the wing-crests of the Fountain Court/Citadel guards could be attached. Like plumes in helmets.

The first film covered the first three chapters, and four became sets (Trolls and Rivendell missing out.) The added locations of note were Dol Guldur, Rhosgobel, Erebor and Azanubizar. We know DOS will take place at least up until chapter 12, as well as have more scenes at Dol Guldur and the High Fells, possibly other locations too. There will be eight DOS sets, assuming that there are indeed six in the current wave and that all of the sets are from DOS. Making a list of all the known location from the film, separating Gandalf's business with the White Council we get: Thorin and Company: Carrock Beorn's House Mirkwood Thranduil's Hall's The Forest River Laketown Erebor Ravenhill Ruins of Dale Gandalf only: High Fells Dol Guldur Can't imagine the High Fells being done, full of suspense but no action, but it could be a cheap set with Radagast and Gandalf. Similarly the Ruins of Dale and the Carrock, nothing of any not seems to happen here, and so I think they can be discounted. There is also a scene in the trailer where Azog and his Orcs are fighting Elves. Possibly in or around Mirkwood, we don't know. We're left with Beorn's House, the Forest River, Erebor, Ravenhill and Dol Guldur for more likely sets. I think I would have taken the Forest River out of contention, but the Mirkwood Elf Army on that list made me think it might be set here. I'd imagine the Elves against either the Dwarves or Orcs. More likely Orcs. Beorn's House would be popular and probably an easy set, if it were not for Beorn and potentially large new molds. Erebor, I'd hope would feature some of the following: Front Gate with statues, Back Door, Throne Room, Smaug's Room, Balcony. If it was just the Back Door, that would feel a bit of a cop out, but as one of the main locations in this series, I hope it gets Helm's Deep-esque treatment someday, but it could easily make up a smaller set to start with. Ravenhill was glimpsed in AUJ, so we know it's in. How important it is to the film is yet to be seen. Could be a mid-range set. Dol Guldur is possibly going to be a climatic part of the film, so it follows it would be the flagship or second largest set in the wave as the list suggests. Gandalf seems to make to visits here, one with Radagast when he meets Thrain, one with the White Council. Of course, it is also possible Mirkwood, Thranduil's Halls and Lake Town will get more sets. Thranduils throne room looks amazing, so that would be good. The Lake Town set features Bard and the Master, the main characters of Lake Town, which makes me think that's all for there. However, there are still the additions of Bain (Bard's Son) and Alfrid (The Master's Servant) who could appear. It's also highly likely there will be other locations we've not seen in trailers yet. All of this is mostly guesswork, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the film information is right. I'd guess £12 Dol Guldur - Gandalf vs Thrain £20 Mirkwood Elf Army - Thranduil vs Azog £30 Beorn's House - Beorn and Dwarves £50 Lake Town Chase £70 Dol Guldur - The White Council vs Bolg £100 Erebor - Smaug vs Bilbo and Dwarves Shifting the list around a little but it looks like it fits to me.

I'm afraid it is against the law for any information not from LOTR or TH to appear in the films. So anything from the Silmarrillion, unless explicitly mentioned in either LOTR of TH is not within the rights. I believe Hugo Weaving confirmed he was in a large battle, whether or not it was Dol Guldur or not remains to be seen, there is an outside chance they put him in BO5A but I doubt that highly. Gandalf, Galadriel and I think Radagast are confirmed to be there, so it follows that Saruman (probably CGI a lot of it) would be there too. I think your last paragraph is blending the Attack on Dol Guldur, when Sauron was driven out with Galadriel destroying the castle after Sauron's defeat. The first battle featured Gandalf, Galadriel, Saruman and possibly a small army of Elves. The second which happened during the fourth age features Galadriel leading the Lorien elves to destroy the place.

It isn't, I'm afraid. Sauron (aka the Necromancer) is the dark ghostly humanoid shape we see when Radagast says "I saw...him!" and flees Dol Guldur. The White wraith that fought Radagast from whom he got the Morgul Blade is the Witch King. Okay, if this set list is correct, and we are getting six sets, two obvious omissions we are still waiting on are Beorn's Halls and Erebor. I would have thought it was far more likely that Dol Guldur Ambush (probably Gandalf and Thrain) would be an £11.99 set in the vein of Riddles for the Ring and Gandalf Arrives. Mirkwood Elf Army, possibly Thranduil vs. Azog here? Only place so far I can think either of these would fit. Dol Guldur Battle must refer to the White Council against the Necromancer's stronghold. I'd expect Gandalf, Saruman, Elrond, Galadriel, Radagast and Bolg to appear here in the film, so minifigs from these characters.

The two worst things about large numbers of minifigs at once are: Cramming them in. Putting them too close together looks weird, so make sure they're spread out enough to look natural. All in the same position. I know this isn't to do with a number, but it looks rather poor if the minifigs are all in the same position. 1,500 minifigs though! Looking forward to seeing this!
