Thing is, I think SSL was up before the major site update a couple of months ago.

I'm wondering, why is the login page on this site not https, meaning that is not secured.

Oh, okay. Nevertheless. What I meant was I can see a reason for the other colors , but not the dark brown. I know where they are in the inventory.- 5,507 replies

U wot M8? I can see the differing grays, but not the dark brown. It's a completely different color than the other brown parts, and also is not visible in the finished model. Also, they're not new in dark brown in this set, they first appeared in dark brown in 42066, and that inclusion was truly inexplicable.- 5,507 replies

I looked up the inventory for 75532, which @Jeroen Ottens posted a picture of, and I found some interesting recolors. Of note is the fact that Lego included both yellow and gray 3L axles, for no reason. Also, the pinhole with axle is included in two colors as well, again for no reason. Since I'm on my phone, photos will have to do, as finding and linking all new parts would be a pain.- 5,507 replies

Generic Contest Discussion

Aside from aircraft, I'd say these are a little bit too specific. Most other contests have had a more loose theme, but that's just my two cents. -

We've had a pneumatic contest, I think it was number 9 or ten. -

I know, right? While blue and dark blue are different enough to be worth having, do we really need 3 different shades of light blue? It really offers no benefits. Pick one shade, and stick with it. -
LDD developer mode
Saberwing40k replied to Zerobricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Before you make these very grave accusations, do you have anything to back up your claims? Have you read all the way through the LDD terms and conditions? Also, this isn't a mod, it's a hidden preference mode, so I see no issue. -

Since there was so much complaining in the 2017 set thread, what if we had a Design a 2017 Flagship Set contest? Aside from the standard rules, the specific rules would be as follows: Two classes, A for remote control models, B for motorized models Between 1400 and 3800 parts For class A, no more than four PF motors, two receivers, and 1 battery box. For class B, only 1 PF motor, and 1 battery box. No techniques that Lego would not use in a set (I.E. no disassembled springs, no single stud connections, keep stressed parts to a minimum.) Yes to third party string, rubber bands, and pneumatic hoses. No to any other third party part. (No SBricks, Buwizz, Brickstuff LEDs, or 3D printed/modified parts) Or, rather than a divide between RC and manual, have Class A be an homage to an existing set, and Class B be for new designs. -

That's rad. If this were the case, it might have at least two, if not one for each wheel. -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Saberwing40k replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That would be two stacked wheel arches. Having a good look at the B models now, I have got to say: 42070: As I suspected, this set continues to be a flaming junk heap. It is still overpriced, the amount of functions is still too low, and the color is not the same as the stunt jet, for no real reason. The B model is barely a model, and is in no way worthy of the set. The whole set is in no way shape or form worth its price tag, or worthy of being the 40th anniversary flagship. I'm just shaking my head at this turd. 42069: the B model actually looks interesting. I'd like to see where the small turntable on the crane goes on the A model. Speaking of the A model, what does the gearbox in between the seats do? I see a knob for lifting the back tent behind the door, so does the gearbox control the back doors, or what? 42068: Why was this delayed , again? It's not really my interest, but both A and b models look pretty nice. Finally, where is 42067? I think Lego omitted that number just to drive me nuts. I hate it when they do that. Also, I'm a little bit disappointed that Lego doesn't really have anything to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Technic, besides some printed beams, and one frankly mediocre combo model. What, no contest, no homage set, barely anything? -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Saberwing40k replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
well, I decided to do some research, because some people a few pages back were trying to justify 42070's price tag based on the price of the parts from Lego's part ordering site. Sorry folks, that doesn't work. I tried this, for 42035, and the result is that the parts for a $30 set bought alacarte cost about $58.11, not counting some parts that are out of stock. If Lego had every part for that set in stock, I'd expect the price to be north of $60. Which is more than double the price of the actual set, not counting shipping. Therefore, going by the parts website, every set is a good value, because no matter the set, it is still cheaper than buying the parts individually. That's sarcastic, of course. Using prices for individual parts available on Lego's website to justify a set's value does not work. It's comparing apples to oranges. What you should do is compare like with like, for instance, a flagship set with a flagship set. And based on that, 42070 is a poor value, in comparison to pretty much everything. 42030 cost about $250, and it had 2 more motors, and one more receiver, and a gigantic single mold part, and was licensed. I mean, it did have fewer parts, but the 10 cent per part is only a rule of thumb, as Lego has put out several sets that do not follow that, like the Ideas Saturn V rocket, or 42055, which are cheaper per part. -
I'd recommend looking into some Tamiya worm gearboxes, because Lego gears, by definition, have higher backlash. This Tamiya worm gearbox has multiple ratios you can build it with, and while it might not be cheaper, it's an all in one solution that would be quite precise and stable: https://www.tamiyausa.com/items/geniuseries-educational-kits-50/educational-construction-38000/4-speed-worm-gearbox-he-72008 Also, you've never specified why you need something with so little backlash. I can not see you needing that little backlash for just a crank on a music box.

Nah, you're miles ahead of that... thing that is the Orochi. I'm thinking more like a Gumpert, or a Koenigsegg, or maybe a bit of bug eyed rally car. The headlights really need to look angry for a sportscar. Also, fun fact: the Mitsuoka Orochi was designed by a blind man, which may or may not explain a lot.

[WIP] project C.O.R.E.

Oh please. Have you actually worked on a car, or for that matter, a bicycle? I cannot count the number of times I have needed a hammer to get things to fit correctly, but I digress. Or, watch a video of a mining excavator being assembled. The pins that hold the arm together are like 15cm thick, and require much hammering to go in. But, I'm not going to derail this thread too much. Have you ever considered looking at this frame from the other end? As in, you currently have the frame in the middle being a weird number of studs wide, but what if you changed the mountings at the ends of the frames? -

Please, can you tell us how to put LDD into developer mode? Also, I look forward to seeing this. I just hope you are going for the somewhat older Model S grille rather than the new one, which looks kind of derpy. Sadly, I can't add images due to being on a phone, but I think the pre-2016 models look best. -

Saberwing40k replied to Erik Leppen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Honestly, the only things I consider cardinal sins in Lego are cutting pieces, and using glue. I hate people who glue sets, because that completely misses the point of Lego, while other things we on the Technic forum do not. I once heard about some moron on ebay who was offering glued sets, and when confronted, she said that she glued all of her son's sets and he still had them. Congratulations you idiot, you have completely missed the point of Lego, and ruined all of your sets. There is no good reason to use glue at all in Lego, unless it is an official Lego display. Hearing about that moron just filled me with rage. It's not a cardinal sin, but I also don't agree with painting pieces some of the time. If it's to get a piece in a color it is not produced in, that's fine. If it's recoloring a piece into a color that it is available in, that is not okay, and is slightly stupid. Honestly, I feel like most of the problem, with those two threads the OP mentioned, is that 3D printing or modified parts are the first solutions people come up with. I don't think you should pursue solutions like that , as a crutch/cop out. 3D printing is a good idea to supplement Lego, but should not be the first solution you go for. Also, I have no problem with drop in stuff like SBricks or Brickstuff lighting, as that is little different from actual Lego parts, even if it is not made by Lego. Although, I must confess, I have considered modifying parts, but not new ones. I have a bin of various broken parts that I keep if I want to modify something, but I would never do that to new parts.- 179 replies

Technic 2017 Set Discussion

Why do I see 42070's B model as being a grader? It just seems to fit. But, knowing Lego, and considering the uninspired A model, the B model will be just as much of a copout.
