  1. I don't mind the Jawa's not having capes. I mean they're wearing robes in the movie anyway, so the cape really wasn't that accurate to begin with. I will say that the robe printing has grown on me. I was unsure when they did it for Obi-wan in the cantina set, but after seeing uncle Owen with printed robes I actually kind of like it. They still need to perfect printing on the sides though.
  2. I didn't like it when I first saw it, but it's grown on me. I really like the smiling side of the face, but the other side doesn't look too good. I mean I think in some of the pictures it looks good, but in a lot it doesn't.
  3. They didn't for Padme, so I can only assume they wouldn't use cheekbones for Leia either. She does appear in the scene though. If I recall correctly she yelled to Luke. So including her wouldn't have been that much of a stretch. No more of a stretch than giving Luke a lightsaber in this set.
  4. Seeing how good the new Luke minifigure turned out to be I'm hoping for an update of princess Leia. Her New Hope variant is outdated. The torso printing is weak, it has been for a while. And she needs a new face, using Tamina's head was a good choice for a while, but with as detailed as Luke and Han have become she now looks dreadfully plain. Also an updated version of the Bespin variant would be great. C3PO needs a few variations as well. We have both needed New Hope variations, but we still need one more variation with his straightened wiring. Plus we need a variation for all three prequels. Also they really need to step it up with Padme, we don't even have an episode 3 variation as of yet. I can understand Lego not making all her costumes into minifigures (There's too many, though if this theme goes on long enough...) but at least one variation a movie is needed. Also I think a variation for the battle of Theed in ep 1 would be really useful.
  5. I like the new Luke minifigure. His face is a bit odd. The smiling side I think looks really good, but the other expression sort of looks bad from most angles (Although there's one shot where it doesn't look bad), I feel like too many lines sort of make it look bad. It does look quite a bit like Mark Hamill. I do like the push to make the minifigures more accurate to the actor portraying them (Though Han is one good hairpiece away from truly looking right). Out of the main cast I think princess Leia is the only one who hasn't been updated to match the actor(She could use an update, wasn't a fan of reusing a face for her). C3PO is also great. The legs are perfect. It is interesting that they finally gave him an episode specific variation. I've felt for a while that C3PO needs more than just one generic variation, he does change throughout the series (So ideally for the original trilogy we need one more variation with his straightened wiring configuration and than one version each for the prequel movies). Hopefully they finally start to give him more variations, but this is a great start (I'll have to find an extra pair of legs to put on my other C3PO). I am disappointed they didn't throw in Beru, but who knows, maybe they'll make the homestead eventually (Though I don't see much play value in a set like that).
  6. No, it's not really the point, but it is an incentive to buy the book. The thing is five more years of SW stuff only equals out to 1/3 of the book really being new. Which means owners of the previous book are paying to get those new pages and the exclusive figure. And when the exclusive figure isn't really exclusive or new, than at this point they're just paying full price for the new pages. I mean it's not an awful minifigure by any extent of the imagination, but it's not really an incentive either. The other thing is that for these books they've set a precedent of giving us new minifigures that wouldn't likely appear in a set otherwise. I look forward to these book exclusives because they're usually one of a kind and unique. I think in comparison to the past getting a retro Luke is disappointing.
  7. Well I would agree that the book itself is what's worth buying, but in this case that's not exactly true. This book is just an updated version of an older book. So for those who had the old book there has to be extra incentive to buy it again. And exclusive minifigures do make that decision easier. I don't usually buy these products just for the exclusives that come along, but there are some times where it adds incentive to buy it. Even for people who don't have the old book it's got to be somewhat disappointing that the old book came with a new and one of a kind minifigure while this version reprints an already widely available one. I don't like convention exclusives, since there is only a small number of them and ultimately people jack the prices up significantly. However I think the exclusives added onto books, movies and in store are alright. I mean most of them are pretty widely accessible, and generally there's a lot more of them in circulation. And in the past when I've bought them on Ebay it's been pretty reasonable. Exclusives I think are fine so long as they have a large distribution. And it was TLG choice to include Luke. DK may be able to make suggestions, but ultimately they don't own the source material, there's no reason they'd have final say on anything. And considering Lego produces the minifigure DK couldn't force them to include anything they didn't want to. I'd even say Disney may have had a say in the final decision since they own Star Wars in general. Again I understand the logic behind including him. And a retro minifigure is an interesting idea, even a good idea I'd say. But the problem is that even though it's a fifteen year old minifigure it was still being featured in sets only ten years ago. And there's so many of that Luke floating around it doesn't make it particularly rare or hard to find. It's a neat little bonus, but ultimately I feel like it has a very confined amount of people who want it.
  8. I don't know if it's exactly idiotic. I feel like it's more of a miscalculation. Looking at it I almost get the feeling that Lego was hoping to cash in on nostalgia, why else rerelease a retro minifigure if not to cash in on nostalgia. I mean a fair amount of the Lego movie and its sets used nostalgia to grab attention, so I feel like old Luke was more of that. Which in theory is actually a good idea, but it doesn't work well in this theme. When Lego rereleased Johnny Thunder in the Lego movie sets I was pleased, but that's because he's an iconic character from a retro theme that was discontinued over a decade ago. And that version was pretty much the best version of him. Luke on the other hand has been remade every few years. There's almost always a variation of this costume available somewhere. And this particular variation, while the first, was also the weakest. I mean I think it's an interesting piece of Lego history (Although this minifigure isn't even exactly the same), but it just isn't that particularly special. I guess I could reason that maybe I'm just not the target audience, but that leaves me to wonder what a kid would want with an extremely outdated minifigure that was made and discontinued before they were even born. I mean the nostalgia factor doesn't really work in that case, so what exactly is the appeal. I just feel like nostalgia wasn't the best move to sell this book.
  9. It's neither a new book or a new minifigure. Just an update. And I don't feel like anyone's being overly negative, I think that a lot of the comments have actually been pretty constructive. I mean I've seen people get almost violently angry about this stuff, but in this case people just seem slightly disappointed. And this is a comparatively weak release, I mean usually these books at least give us valuable variations on characters. Rereleasing an older minifigure (That doesn't even quite match the original) is sort of disappointing in comparison to the many worthwhile things these books have given us in the past (like variations we'd never see in an actual set). And I'm not sold on how much kids will want this minifigure. I mean it's an oddity in this era of overly detailed minifigures, but otherwise I'm not sure what the appeal is. I mean kids can't have nostalgia for this minifigure since just about anyone who owned one of these originally would have to be like 15 or older now. Play value isn't great since this specific costume for Luke has been remade constantly and is still available. At this point the only real appeal I see is from a collectors standpoint.
  10. Even better, it manages to not even be an exact copy of the original despite the fact that they're both supposed to be the same. Part of the reason I never buy these books is because the minifigure isn't overly good. I mean the nostalgia factor was an interesting choice, but it fails to sell me on it. I guess I'll wait and see what the next updated version has.
  11. Yeah that's sort of disappointing. I mean I like the concept of classic minifigures being made again, but this Luke was widely available, can still be found if you look in the right places, and has been remade with a superior version. I mean I see no value in adding that variation to my collection. I feel like this was a missed opportunity to remake clelebration Luke. It hasn't aged well, and now that we have a piece for medals they wouldn't need to print it onto the torso (Which ruins the look to me).
  12. I think she's as significant as Uncle Owen, so there's really no reason not to include her. I mean she was even in the sandcrawler scene (One line, but still). Plus the sandcrawler isn't in the movie very long either, and it plays a rather small part too (A bigger part than Beru, but not by much). And at this point if we don't get her here there's not much chance otherwise. I mean maybe a homestead set, but I sort of doubt that will happen.
  13. Yeah, I'm having a hard time thinking this will be 3000 pieces. I mean most of the exterior is plates. And while it may be longer than the last sandcrawler looking at the spacing of the wheels it doesn't seem to be any wider (Maybe even slightly more narrow). I feel like this will be closer to 2000 pieces.
  14. I agree. Catwoman's first variation for this theme was good, but could use an update, the mask in particular I don't think has aged that well (I think a regular hairpiece in the future with goggles printed onto her face may be a nice alternative). I also think Poison Ivy could use an update. I didn't like the color scheme they used for the last one, not a good color balance to me (Plus really inconsistent printing for some reason). I would have rather had either of those two over this years Riddler, which wasn't really much of an improvement.
  15. Disney bought the rights from Sony for all Spider-man merchandising. So really Lego could make sets for it if that was what Disney wanted. But based on the fact that they just used similar villains in the USM sets sort of shows that they'd rather milk the show while they can. I mean there's going to be at least four more Spider-man films, but probably only a season or two more for USM. So I guess it's logical to get as much as they can out of USM before switching over to the movies. She's high on my list of much needed minifigures. I have a purist custom too, but it pails in comparison to the variant in the game. I can only hope there's an exclusive set yet to be revealed with her in it, or maybe a set next year. It's a shame not to have comic GG either. I suppose if this theme lasts long enough we'll get both.
  16. Unfortunately literally all the stores in my area have toys separated by gender, even the Lego store.
  17. Buying Lego in itself isn't embarrassing, but I felt somewhat embarrassed being a 21 year old man walking into the girls toy aisle (Which is where Friends and Disney is located in store). But I got over it after the first time and it's really not a big deal. I was just saying to another user that it's only embarrassing at first, but once you do it you realize it's not a big deal.
  18. Looks good, but there better be more to it if it's going to be +$300. At least Beru and part of the homestead would be great. I mean I don't know if Beru and the homestead would ever be a set by itself, so this would be the ideal place to put it.
  19. Well that's true, but at the end of the day it's mostly out of their control. DC sets the roster and they base that off of what's popular and what they expect to do well. Marvel has an advantage, they have a movie universe in place and TV shows that tie into it (Even USM takes elements from the MCU). They make it a point to expand the universe with every new movie and show. So ultimately the universe gets bigger and bigger for them which in turn means Marvel sets end up having a more diverse line. DC on the other hand doesn't have that luxury, they have one movie in their universe so far and a few unrelated TV shows (All varying in popularity). The fact is that Batman is the only one of their characters that is pretty constantly getting media exposure. There's an endless amount of TV shows and movies. Even the older stuff is so constantly circulated it keeps fresh in mind. Ultimately until DC gets their movies and shows to a more developed point they'll continue to let Batman anchor the Lego line. I think there are great things in store for the DC side of the theme, it's all a matter of waiting for WB to finally make a move and create a stable movie universe.
  20. Luke's face is going to take some time to get used to, but that C3PO is awesome. Happy to see more episodes of the Yoda chronicles.
  21. Honestly if the Original Vs. Prequel people over in the SW topic can mostly get along there's really no excuse for this topic. Anywho I'm glad to be getting Martian Manhunter. I rarely buy these exclusives, but having grown up with the DCAU version of Justice League he's vital for my Lego Justice League. I can see why he didn't make it into a set though, admittedly other than a Watchtower set I have a hard time thinking up a reason to include him.
  22. Well there's no reason we shouldn't get both. Plus they're pretty different persona's ultimately. Joker Red Hood is pretty much just a Joker minifigure wearing a red trashcan on his head, while Jason Todd Red Hood is a fully fleshed out persona and wouldn't require a special mold since his mask was actually head shaped. And I think eventually they'll give us both. Joker they'll give us just because Lego will undoubtedly take every opportunity they have to give us another variation of him. And undoubtedly most members of the bat family will get made should the theme go on, so Jason Todd will happen eventually. So I'm optimistic for both.
  23. I would like to see a Joker/Red hood minifigure. Arkahm Origins reminded me of the backstory and I really would love to see him as a minifigure. I also think the DC sets could be a bit better fleshed out. So I would like to see Vicki Vale, comic Lois Lane, Lucius Fox, Jimmy Olsen and Harvey Bullock. For the Marvel side we definitely need comic Green Goblin and Gwen Stacy. Those two are at the top of my list. ASM #121 is my favorite ASM comic, so I've been dying to have all the key players to build that in Lego.
  24. Yes, now that you've mentioned the spider buggy I really want to find the pieces and build one myself. I like how it looks in game and I enjoy the history behind it in the comics (I'm amused by the role it plays). Unfortunately I don't think all those pieces in those colors exist (Though a lot of them do). And of course the webbing would be difficult to replicate. This is the big problem with these games, they always contain massive amount of characters and vehicles that will never be in actual sets.
  25. If it had been the spider buggy I would have bought it instantly. The trike on the other hand just bothers me, from the way it functions to the fact that it's not really a trike. I've yet to find a single thing I like about it. I can get over a vehicle not being practical, but this one just bothers me in every other way.
