  1. A lot of people feel the same. No villains is kind of boring. I mean based on the minidolls included this theme would be better off being called "Princess date night." But for now it doesn't look like things will change. Disney controls their franchises pretty tightly, and it's been pointed out that the princess franchise has a strict list of guidelines for what characters are involved, usually only the princesses and possibly their love interests, so I wouldn't expect the inclusion of villains as of now. However I do think if movies like Maleficent take off than eventually Disney might be inclined to rethink their strategy. And it is possible that Disney in the future might opt to have a separate theme for upcoming movies (Like the Cinderella remake), so hypothetically there's no reason villains couldn't be included in that scenario. Next year could bring a lot of surprises.
  2. Yes, they could come up with a line of sets if they had too, but they'd mostly be kind of boring. I mean we have a Quinjet, Helicarrier would be too big for a standard set (It would have to be ucs), and most of the other vehicles are sort of just normal vehicles (It would be nice to get some trucks and whatnot, but that's sort of what we have the City theme for). As for playsets there's really only a couple locations I'd consider, and there'd be a lot of grey pieces used and they'd have to be scaled down. Overall while there's some material there to work with ultimately it wouldn't be very exciting or interesting. It would just be a line to buy for the minifigures alone (And we already have most of those characters in some form). I mean Iron Man 3 had similar problems and that line was pretty bleak.
  3. Marvel gives the company standards to follow I believe, so it is possible that they recommended the color they feel represents the characters best. Drax's color is sort of a weird area, he looks both green and gray depending on the lighting, even the other toy companies can't decide what color he is. Perhaps his color changes throughout the film. Either way I'm sure these sets had to pass inspection by Marvel, so I'm sure the final coloring is to their liking. I sort of agree about them not wanting to make characters too similar. I mean I think young kids might look at a green Drax and just see Hulk with tattoo's. I doubt that was the main reason they chose the color, but I tend to think it played a part in the decision. Add a specially molded head and you have a properly sized Groot. Really I'm sort of disappointed about how Groot turned out, I don't think the color was a great choice either.
  4. I've had a missing bag of parts once and it was a bit frustrating waiting for them to be replaced (I was able to supplement most of the pieces, but none of the specially printed stuff). So I don't really fear missing parts, however misprinted parts are always a big fear. It seems like every couple of months I'm sending away for replacements for minifigures especially. Printing not properly aligned, colors missing and more on new minifigures. I feel like I've sent away for replacements nearly a dozen times in the last three years (And three times the replacement part was just as misprinted, in one case in a much worse way than the original piece). But admittedly that's much easier to deal with than waiting around for pieces that are just straight up missing. A few other times I've had one or two common pieces missing, but if I had it in my collection than I just replaced it myself. But usually in exchange for the missing common pieces a couple extra special pieces would be included, so it evened out.
  5. Well he has a pretty unique color, it's grey with a greenish tint, so it was probably hard to match against existing colors in use already. I think honestly it's a toss up between sand green and grey, either colors would be a workable match, but neither ultimately match the color in the movie, but that's just how it is when you have a limited color palette. And some of the other toy companies have been using grey, so I assume that the color may have been specified by Marvel.
  6. Honestly they should have put the Winter soldier in the AIM lab instead of Taskmaster and we'd have everyone from the movie worth having. It's an old hairpiece but in a new color. I really wish they had done a new hairpiece, this is another piece that's just become overused in recent years.
  7. Well the turtles don't look as bad as I initially thought (They look better here than in the movie), though the shells being so high is kind of bizarre. I might actually get a few of these, I will say the minifigures are a big draw. April is especially interesting (I can use her head and hair to make a less ugly Black Widow) and I'm always psyched to get some good casual clothing for my minifigures. Not thrilled about the return of Satipo's head, I have far too many in my collection. Really I get tired of this laziness, especially when they do this to important characters. Part selection is nice, not exciting, but definitely practical and usable. I haven't bothered to buy any of the TMNT sets as of yet, but I'll definitely have to consider these.
  8. Yeah, they went a bit overboard on the lines and the spacing on the details is bad. The smiling side looks better because they actual spaced out the details better, but the neutral side of the face just looks awkward. I will say it does definitely remind me of Mark Hamill after the car accident.
  9. Wow, for once they made cheekbones that look good, it helps that they're appropriately sized unlike the gigantic cheekbones printed on most of these characters. Facial hair printing could use some work though (Though I'm unsure there's really a better way to do that). All in all the minifigures are really quite impressive. Although Groot isn't quite working for me, but I don't care about him as much, so I can accept it. I'm glad we finally get to see the interior of the X-jet, amazingly Marvel vehicles always end up being more spacious than I expect. Though I still wish Storm's hair was different. Oddly the lack of tiara doesn't bother me now, but the fact that it's an overused hairpiece does sort of bother me, but it doesn't look bad. Overall a good summer wave.
  10. Marvel manages to get the better vehicles I'll say that much. Definitely excited for this set, look great. After seeing Captain America last night I can understand why they didn't make any sets for it, not a whole lot of vehicles that would be set worthy. Plus the important characters already exist in minifigure form (Comic Falcon I think looks better than what movie Falcon would have been in minifigure form, though I could have used a new and less ugly Black Widow), so I can't say I see a need for them in that respect either. Though an exclusive winter soldier minifigure would definitely finish out the cast. All in all I'm pretty pleased with the sets for this year. If I had one real disappointment it would be the Spider-man sets. They're not bad sets, but they would have been better if they were movie based (I liked Ultimate Goblin at first but I like him less each time I see him and every time I see Electro I think Iceman for some reason). I'm still sort of hoping for an exclusive set or figure for the movie. I definitely need Gwen Stacy, I'm pretty sick and tired of Mary Jane, we've had five variations of her, but none of Spider-man's other love interests (I mean the updated figure is nice, but I could have lived without it). And I'm grossly sick of that same Spider-man variation we keep getting (I mean it doesn't even match the show it's based on, clearly it's time to update).
  11. I think standard heads would work for them, they are meant to be a bit more normal looking (And they all seem to have similar head shapes for the most part). Aliens and robots would still need special heads though. Truthfully I think Futurama would be a much more natural fit for Lego sets than the Simpsons, but I suppose being cancelled again makes it unlikely that would happen. Who knows, maybe if the Simpsons does well Futurama will get a chance too.
  12. Being funny doesn't make it suitable for everybody though. Like I said, it carries a well deserved rating, so it's not unreasonable that some parents don't allow their kids to watch.
  13. I guess it depends on the age of the kids. Spongebob is rated TV-Y7 due to mild fantasy violence and some mildly suggestive humor. Recently I watched an episode where Squidward was depressed and he kept on doing things that mildly implied suicide (Like sticking his head in the oven, but it actually turns out he's just baking, tying a rope to the ceiling, which turns out to be for a birdcage, all being references to various suicides). Plus there's quite a few gruesome moments (Like Sandy borrowing Spongebob and Patrick's corneas to create a microscope, seeing those two with their eyes messed up was a very terrible image that is forever burned into my brain). So for young kids Spongebob isn't exactly the best entertainment, in fact it might be a little intense for some kids. I'm just glad Lego decided to do the Simpsons (Which is only a TV-PG show, except for a few episodes) rather than something like Family Guy. It shocks me that K'nex is doing sets for them. But it also shocks me that K'nex turned into a lazy Lego clone so...
  14. BOBO! Love it, love everything about it. You know the heads are weird, but somehow they've grown on me. The accessories aren't wildly spectacular, but I suppose after creating a new mold for each head it would be impractical to create another mold for an accessory. All in all a pleasing line up. I hope we get some more sets next year.
  15. Darth Revan? That's an odd choice, but honestly all of the exclusive minifigures this year have been random. I mean a character from a video game that's ten years old, a protocal droid from a deleted scene and a rerelease of a retro minifigure. That line up is all over the place. Still I actually kind of want this minifigure. Unfortunately that really makes me want a set based on that game, perhaps a Lego rendition of the Ebon Hawk. Though that's not going to happen. I really wish I knew what the logic is for releasing Darth Revan, it's just sort of a bizarre choice.
  16. I'd say printed, it seems to be the standard anymore for skirts. Plus I think the fabric styled skirts generally end up being less than great most of the time, I mean Lego never truly perfected their fabric method. It'll be nice to have some more casual looking clothing for my minifigures, it's pretty rare we get any versatile casual clothing. I hope they make a new hairpiece for Quicksilver though, I'm a little tired of the repeated hairpieces we see in this line. It wouldn't hurt to diversify.
  17. Well first off I'll say that there's going to be a difference between what a toy and a cartoon can get away with, different standards for each medium. Let's face it, Lego has let some dark and violent imagery into their sets in the past, so I'd guess naming a character Deathstroke isn't going to be a big deal. Second Teen Titans was years ago, standards have likely changed (They constantly are). Cartoons today are getting away with increasing amounts of violent and death (Last years Scooby Doo finale had a pretty high body count), so for a Teen Titans show today I'd think they'd let it slide (Though I think Teen Titans Go still uses the name Slade, but that probably has to do with it being so closely related to the previous show). Personally I'd be fine if they called him Slade Wilson. Oddly that is how I refer to him most of the time, but perhaps that has to do with growing up with the show. Also Deathstroke isn't particularly catchy to me.
  18. The Arkham asylum set uses the logo from the game and Mr. Freeze has a few similarities as well. So it takes a few points of inspiration. I wouldn't mind a few more loosely inspired minifigures from the Arkham games. An Arkham Knight Harley would be awesome. I don't think they'll have a problem calling him Deathstroke. I mean Lego released Deadpool, so mentioning death in a name shouldn't be a problem. Though calling him Slade Wilson would work too.
  19. Yeah, I don't need a gigantic tumbler, it's bad enough the last one was so small, I don't need one that's too big. If they gave us a minifigure compatible one with enough room for two seats than yes I'd buy that. In the grand scheme of things if they're going to make another Batmobile, tumbler or not, I expect to be able to fit two minifigures inside. I mean across two themes we've had six Batmobiles of all types and only the original Tumbler can fit more than one minifigure (And unfortunately I missed out on that one). A 60's Batmobile would be a must buy for me though. I mean we have 60's Batman and Robin now, why not that Batmobile too.
  20. Haven't heard anything about that yet. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they did, though I'm sure it depends greatly on what Marvel wants. However I feel like the story has too much going on to fit into the time frame of a DTV movie. Stan Lee would be a great exclusive. Green Goblin too (Though I'd prefer a set for him). I wish I could look at it that way. Unfortunately all I see is $12.99 plus tax solely for an Electro minifigure. As much as I want Electro I'm not ready to spend the money yet. I'll wait until a sale.
  21. I agree completely. I mean it's not even technically a trike, they really missed on this one. The thing that baffles me the most is that they keep on making all these silly spider vehicles and yet they haven't managed to make one of the few spider vehicles featured in the comics (It's the only vehicle I recall him having, but I might have overlooked another). I mean the spider buggy at least exists. Instead we get hover bikes, one seat cars, helicopters and "trikes." It absolutely drives me crazy that the spider buggy is in the game but isn't in a set and out of all the spider vehicles featured it's the only one that actually looks good to begin with. If they want to give me spider vehicles I can deal with that, but they at least better be good looking in design or at least a halfway decent attempt at adapting something from the comics. Electro flipping over a taxi probably would have been better. The Green Goblin attacking a normally colored Shield helicopter would have been great. The Doc Ock set is pretty much how I prefer my Spider-man sets to be, normal or comic based vehicle, classic villain, one civilian and one Spidey. It's not a hard model to follow and yet this theme manages to go in so many wrong directions.
  22. That would be pretty awful considering retro Leia would use the same torso as current Leia (They need to update the episode 4 Leia, that torso is just so unbelievably outdated, it just sticks out among all the greatly detailed minifigures in my collection). As for Han it would be equally as pointless. His torso was finally updated last year, but before that he was just using a flesh version of the original torso. It would be lazy and I want the retro minifigures to stop with this book.
  23. My only problem with how the Lego store does it is that the Princess theme despite being a licensed theme doesn't get a section in the side of the store that has all the other licenses. And similarly the girl Duplo stuff isn't with the rest of the Duplo. I can understand why the Lego store puts it all together, but I don't think it should be that way. Though they rearrange the store once a year, so hopefully they reconsider how they group things. The same advice I gave a page ago. Like I said it stopped bothering me after the first Friends set I bought years ago. Anyways back on topic I feel like Frozen sets are coming at some point. Looking at last years CMF's the Pretzel Girl's hair would be perfect for Anna, it also just so happens to be made out of the same soft plastic as the other Friends hairpieces. Plus Princess Leia's hairpiece showed up in a CMF before an actual set, so there is some precedent.
  24. No. I was saying that the brand doesn't matter, no matter what the toy is it's divided into sections by gender where I live. In my Lego store all of the girls products are put in one section (Just about any set that features pink bricks, Duplo included). Which all of the other licensed sets are in another section (Even being a licensed theme the Princesses just don't make the cut for that side of the store). It's the same at all stores in my area that sell toys, one side is pink, the other blue. Toysrus is the worst offender though, despite having a dedicated Lego section you have to walk to the other half of the store to find any Friends or Princess sets (Literally there's a line down the middle of the store that divides you between the pink and blue).
  25. I actually like the cheekbones on some of the minifigures. I think most of the problem is they go too big on them and they just become distracting. If they could find a smaller size and lighter color than I think it would blend a bit better. With Luke I think what messes up the look is the excess chin lines, and the lines that are curved around his eyes on the neutral expression (They're missing on the smiling side, and it looks much better).
