Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
strangely replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I agree, that would be a pretty big mistake to make. If there really is another set I'm doubting it's Avengers as they have a full line already. I'm hoping it's a Spider-man set if anything else. We've yet to have a big one for Spider-man and there's a lot of things they could do in that price point (Brooklyn Bridge, Gwen Stacy, make it happen Lego). I guess we'll find out soon enough. -

Not necessarily. While the deal is just being announced now we actually don't know how long this has really been in the works. Marvel could have designed a new costume for Spidey months ago when they first started negotiations. And an after credit scene doesn't generally take much time to do, so there is some small possibility he could make a cameo. Though I think it's unlikely. I do think it's possible the new Spidey variant could relate to the MCU deal. Marvel could have easily designed a new Spidey in anticipation of the deal and had Lego use it. I think getting an Iron Spider the same year they announce Spider-man will be in Civil War shows that Lego and Marvel were thinking ahead product wise. -
Spare heads could be hidden somewhere in the set. The tree monster is obviously hollow and there's plenty of spaces for it in the mansion. Being that unmasking them is a play feature perhaps the promotional photos of the sets won't show them unmasked so as not to ruin the surprise. I find it hard to believe they'd insert clues and put in the whole unmasking bit in the press release and then only do it for one monster. I guess we'll find out during toyfair.

Not a bad little build, pretty nice actually. Too bad the minifigure is pretty bland. Could have been a nice chance to give us a new variation or maybe a character that wouldn't make it into an actual set. At the very least they could have thrown in a new Peter Parker head. Oh well, just another polybag I won't be getting. -

I agree, the movie itself may have had problems but the characters and specifically their designs were really pretty good. And honestly I'll take as many Green Goblins as I can get. I'm hoping we might get an ASM2 Gwen Stacy over the comic version. I realize the two are very similar but I like the differences in her movie costume better than the comic version (The lighter green color is preferable over the almost lime colored coat in the comics). Plus movie versions for minifigures always seem to get a little more detail and texture than the comic ones. -
I'm assuming there's more depth to the set than we've seen. It looks like there could be more to the Jokers attraction than what we're seeing, maybe an elevator or something. Plus I'm sure the functional aspect of these rides probably take up a tidy sum of parts.

Well there are plenty of dark green Gill-man like creatures in Scooby Doo, unfortunately I've yet to find one with purple hands. I think that tree monster plus this tree monster http://scoobydoo.wikia.com/wiki/Dryad equals what we got in the set. The more I look at the tree monster in the set the more I feel like Lego just combined all the Scooby tree monsters into a one tree monster fits all type creation. And I'm starting to wonder if Lego just created the Swamp Monster themselves. It's very possible the TV special they're putting together could feature new monsters, so it might be one of them.

The swamp monster in the set is black and purple. So I think it's safe to say the Moat Monster is not the one featured in the set. The tree is a monster. The newspaper in Fred's hand indicates that the tree has come to life. The construction of it might make it possible to fit a minifigure inside, though it appears there is not one included to do that. The tree looks to be an amalgamation of tree monsters from the shows (The antler like branches from the Dryad, a similar face as the tree in one of the DTV's) rather than any one specific version.

They're not really copycatting COBI, this is actually just how almost every Scooby toy line has gone. The WB likes to recycle things for every new toyline, I guess they know what sells. Here's a few things that might look familiar. Purple mansion with clock tower and suit of armor: Lighthouse with stairs and a skull shaped rock: And hey, a groovy colored plane: Scooby Doo merchandising is pretty much just a loop of repeating products. So Lego and COBI pretty much just recycled elements from previous toy lines. Based on older toy lines I'm guessing future waves will probably include Redbeard's ship, a castle, a train and a mine as all four of these things are re-used in the toys pretty often.

Personally I think it's the Dryad. http://scoobydoo.wikia.com/wiki/Dryad The two branches poking out of the head seem like a dead giveaway to me. The big difference though is that the Dryad has foliage/fur over his face whereas the Lego tree does not. There are several monster trees throughout the Scooby series but the Dryad is the only one I can find that has both arms and legs and those two antler like branches coming out of it's head. Plus I'd like to think Lego did that on purpose so we can put the Joker inside the tree. Though it's also possible Lego just took inspiration from all the various tree monsters featured in Scooby Doo and combined them into a one tree monster fits all type of character.

Unfortunately that doesn't appear to be it. It's not the same color at all. I've been looking through page after page of monsters and I'm beginning to think whatever episode this monster appears in hasn't aired yet. Most of the gill-man style monsters in the series are green, in fact in the long list of monsters I saw very few that were black and purple. I didn't get much farther on the lighthouse keeper either. He does have the same coloring at the Creepy Keeper, but ultimately lacks the hat. All in all I'm pretty stumped by these two monsters. If they are in an existing episode they're super obscure.

If you could enlighten us with the episode name or series name that would be helpful. I've been trying to match him to an episode but the closest design I've seen so far is the swamp monster in the New Scooby Doo Mysteries opening credits, but that swamp monster was green... So I have no idea still what this is based off of.

That's my biggest reservation about the lighthouse. I'm a little perplexed about these two monsters as I can't seem to find any existing monster that they're based on. It seems a little strange they'd make up their own monsters or pick two that are so obscure that nobodies ever heard of them. Perhaps these two are from the new show or even the Lego special that's set to air later this year, that might explain it. Otherwise I find the lighthouse to be a great looking build. I wish the top were a bit bigger, but that's easy enough to fix. I agree to some degree. The villain and his horse seem oddly bright in comparison to most of the other monsters. And I can't help but think they should have gone with the CMF king cape instead of the generic one included. I love the plane but admittedly I think the set looks a bit bare, almost like it's meant to be part of a larger set rather than something on it's own.

I just noticed the printed goggles on Scooby, I really like this detail. I was initially a bit disappointed that Scooby would only have one point of articulation unlike the Cobi version which had five. Honestly though I think the Lego version is far superior now. The head is perfect and the variations of the printing are pretty awesome (I'm glad they took the Spongebob approach to the mold rather than sculpting the expression on as most other brands do). And the two molds for Scooby really works well (The Cobi version couldn't sit properly). I'm hoping eventually there's a standing version (On two legs) as Scooby often does that. I really think there will be more waves. The monster selection oddly seems to give us only a few of the iconic monsters as if they're saving some for the future. I am wondering if Shaggy is different in the lighthouse set, his torso seems to have some orange on the front, though I might just be seeing things.

Awesome sets. The builds are pretty terrific and I actually love the way the vehicles are colored. I am wondering what monsters the swamp monster and Lightouse keeper are based off of.

Hopefully we get some new pictures soon. There's been a few Star Wars leaks today, maybe some of the other licenses will follow soon enough. Also this thread really needs to be pinned.

Finally, a cheaper way of getting the printed C3po legs.

If they take up the celebration theme again it could be Padme from the final scene of Phantom Menace.

What's the point of printing muscles, breasts or any feature that's three dimensional since the minifigure torso is flat? At the end of the day there's not a whole lot of logic at play here. It's ultimately just an artistic decision. If it looks good to the designers they just go with it. I will say it's a bit harder for Black Widow to have no curves considering the lines on her costume in the movie do curve to fit her body. So even without the curves on the minifigure you'd still have the blue lines making similar curves. Realistically in these movies a lot of costumes tend to exaggerate or draw attention to form, so it's probably a little harder to not include that for licensed minifigures. Even Iron Man's waist is tapered. -
I got excited for a second and then realized the pictures are the exact same ones from last week... Same resolution and lack of watermark... Oh well. It is pretty odd that they've given us only one photo of each set. I don't see it having anything to do with the Superbowl and it would be a little early for commercials for a product that doesn't come out until August. I do agree that they're waiting for something though.

I'm hoping the reverse side of the Black Knights head is Mr. Wickles and I'm hoping they include the Grandpa hairpiece from the CMF in flesh and black for his head (As a side-note I want that piece for Alfred).

They could just give her the blonde version of those pigtails. It would definitely be similar to her Arkham appearance. They could be drawing from a number of sources for her new design rather than just one.

Probably. That tree looks to be hollow. They could have the extra parts stored in there.

The trophy's almost look like bootlegs to me. I am impressed by the technic system though. -
I'm surprised we didn't get those three as the molds needed already exist. We have a diving helmet for Cutler, it just needs to be recolored. We have a clown hat for the Ghost Clown. And the Creeper requires no special molds. Redbeard would have been easy to do as we have the prospectors beard and pirate hat. The Gorilla and the green ghosts could have been done very easily too with existing pieces. On a side note I suddenly want the wax phantom as a bigfig.
