Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
strangely replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Can't say I care for it very much. The trophy pieces were an odd choice. The scale doesn't work for me either. The minifigure selection is pretty disappointing. Same Black Widow and Hawkeye. And Captain America with Obi-Wan's head is so lazy. Hill and Fury are awesome, but unfortunately their the only part of this set I like with no reservations. -
Suddenly I'm realizing how similar the Electro minifigure looks to the phantom virus. Now if only that Electro minifigure looked like Electro...

They're based on episodes where they were just a person in a mask. Ultimately just because Lego didn't put in a secondary head for some of them doesn't make them real monsters by default. Plus it would make the included clues pointless if each monster were real.

From 1985 to 2008 the gang wore different clothing in each series. Plus out of four live-action movies they only wear their traditional costumes a few times (Shaggy and Scooby being the exception as they almost always wear their classic costumes with minor changes). Their costumes are also different in the 90's and early 2000's TV movies. They've had a ton of costumes, maybe not as many as Batman, but still a lot.

I think if the theme continues beyond this first wave the minifigure distribution will change some. There are plenty of variations for the gang really as they've changed clothing several times. Scooby on the other hand is designed so that new faces can be printed on him pretty often, so I'm assuming they'll treat him like Spongebob and introduce a couple variations of him per wave. Plus who knows, maybe they'll want a third mold to depict Scooby standing like a human or something. So ultimately there's plenty of variations for at least a couple waves. They've done different styles and costumes several times. A Pup Named Scooby Doo used Looney Tunes style animation, with new costumes for the gang and a broader sense of humor. Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated was rarely funny and often very violent, including a lot of death and destruction, and to top it off a dark animation style. Be Cool Scooby Doo is animated like Family Guy and has a very sarcastic humor. As for the costumes they changed them in the late 80's and it wasn't until the last show that they adopted their original clothing again.

I don't think that's been confirmed yet. It's possible as a lighthouse was in that episode and I suppose that Mrs. Cutler (Who was the lighthouse keeper in the episode and also a witch) and Captain Cutler could have been mistaken for the lighthouse keeper and swamp monster. But until Wednesday we really don't have much of a clue on what episodes the lighthouse is drawing it's inspiration from. And really there's been quite a few episodes involving lighthouses, swamp monsters and lighthouse keepers. Also maybe it's just a shadow but the outside of the Vampire's cape looks black.

According to Bricklink it comes in dark gray, pearl light gray, black and silver.

I wanted to use this for his helmet: Unfortunately I don't think it ever came in dark pearl grey. The other styles of helmet I don't like. I'm hoping these monsters come with a second head to represent their unmasked form (Or at least an alternate face). Really I'm a bit surprised some of these don't come with suspects. I am impressed with the detail of the monsters so far, even eye colors have been spot on.

Unlikely. This theme seems to be heavily based on the classic shows so far. I think the potential for a normal Scrappy is pretty good if the theme continues. Everybody loves making fun of him, so his inclusion in a future set would be a good idea. I'd actually like to get him along with Scooby-Dum in the future. They're gimmick characters, but a neat inclusion nonetheless. Really I'm hoping this theme runs for at least three waves. Enough to get the most iconic monsters, a few supporting characters and some interesting Scooby variations. On the monster front I'm pretty impressed with what we've seen so far. The Zombie, the Vampire and the Black Knight all look pretty close to their animated counterparts (Except for the Knights helmet, but admittedly it does look very similar to the live action movies depiction of his helmet). I'm hoping that the Creeper, Captain Cutler, Charlie the haunted robot, the Ghost Clown, Space Kook and the Phantom Shadows make it into future sets. I can do without the witches and ghosts and Frankenstein's as we have those in spades in the CMF anyway.

Good find Cy_Bored1337! That's definitely a must buy for me. Wish the Black Knight had a different helmet though, I'll just have to swap it out with a different one. Wish the ghost weren't so generic. The clock tower is pretty awesome though.

Scooby's head does indeed move! Makes me wonder if there might be a surprise inside the tree. Maybe a minifigure or a clue or something.

I wonder if the tree monster is supposed to be the Dryad from the Batman episode (Joker's costume I believe). It does look pretty similar. Otherwise I can't think of that many tree monsters they encountered.

If they're planning multiple movies then I'd say there's a good possibility they'll make a game too. The last two Scooby Doo games did use the Lego formula for the gameplay (Smashing breakable objects for Scooby snacks). It really looks like they intend to get some mileage out of this theme. Honestly with a new live-action movie in the works, a new television show and now a new toyline it looks like Warner Bros is trying to revitalize the franchise.

There's a few interesting tidbits in that article. So the sets are based on multiple incarnations rather than one. This is really interesting. If they're planning DTV movies over multiple years that might imply this theme is intended to stick around for more than one wave. Also it states clues will be included to identify the identity of the villains.

Love it, love everything about it. The Mystery Machine is a pretty awesome build. The minifigures are just too good. The hairpieces are detailed, the faces are normal looking and the Zombie is great. Scooby is pretty interesting looking. I'm wondering if his head rotates as I feel like that would be an odd direction to mold the head. Interestingly his facial expression is printed on rather than being molded. I'm wondering if that's so they can print different expressions on. I can't wait to see the sitting mold of him. I have to agree that doesn't make sense. I would think at the very least they'd give him a new print.

Okay, they have to use that for Catwoman. Comparing it to the Julie Newmar Catwoman that new hairpiece is exactly the same. I'm guessing either Catwoman is in the Jokerland set and nobody spotted her (Which if the Green Goblin was forgotten by several people than this is possible) or perhaps there's an exclusive set or polybag coming at some point. I mean it's just too perfect to not be for her. Maybe a 66' set will show up next year (For the 50th anniversary). And that pigtail hairpiece has to be used for Harley. Either new 52 or an Arkham version. I'm hoping for the Arkham Knight version as I hate the new 52 version and dislike her design in the first two Arkham games.

I could see mixing them up. I mean maybe if Captain Cutler were covered in vines or something.

Lego may have changed enough to create a theme based around an adult TV-PG show (With only a handful of TV-14 episodes), but I'm going to go out on a limb and say they probably aren't to the point of making sets for R rated movies yet. Maybe in another few years they'll be to that point, but I think the Simpsons and the Big Bang Theory are part of the intermediary step on that ladder. And even as edgy as they have been at certain times their still just network sitcoms. I will also point out that cartoon violence is more acceptable than live-action violence, so that's going to be why the Simpsons gets away with it as much as they do.
-
Correct, there hasn't been confirmation one way or another. We do know at least a couple of classic villains will appear in the sets. The Zombie and Black Knight have been reported to be from the first series, but we don't know about the rest of the monsters yet.

Truthfully I think Lego has changed their standards since then. That happened quite a while ago at the beginning of the CUUSOO platform and since then they've created many sets I wouldn't have expected them too. I think now they're seeing the adult market potential and have become more willing to create adult oriented themes and sets. Truthfully I didn't think they'd make the Firefly set anyway. Even as a die-hard fan of the show I honestly can't say I saw a big market for that set. Really I kind of felt their stated reason for turning it down was just the most obvious problem among a list of them.

Brick Fan's information came from Brick Fanatic which doesn't mention it being based on the new show, so take it with a pinch of salt until we have actual confirmation.

I don't think they'll do masks for all those monsters. I'm guessing that the monsters that don't have parts covering the head will have either an alternate head or face (Zombie and Mummy could get a second unmasked head while minifigures like Dracula could just have a reversible head).

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion

Scarlet Witch's head really doesn't look right to me. Torso and Legs are awesome though. The dark skin on the legs doesn't bother me though. I can just pretend she's wearing stockings or something. I'm a little disappointed that no further description of the Goblin set has shown up yet. I'm hoping it's more along the line of $30 set with three minifigures and a nice sized build. Would really like to get an Oscorp lab and Gwen Stacy. Based on how it looks like Scarlet Witch's leg printing doesn't even wrap around I'm guessing they stretched the budget a little too thin. There's a lot of special pieces in new colors and with new prints. -

Yes! Called it, happy about it, thank you Lego! I can't wait to see what the glider looks like. Hopefully it comes with a couple more minifgures and a nice little build. Now all I need is Gwen Stacy and I'll be 100% happy with the Spider-man sets. Maybe a polybag or something (movie version would be awesome).
