  1. I don't think that TLG despises their fans. In the contrary - that's why the Cuusoo/Ideas program exists in the first place. While it does seem unfair toward the creators of those projects, I don't think TLG did this just to spite them. Whatever made them decide to reject those projects, they probably had a good reason for it. Let's just be glad we're getting some kind of Lego Oz and Portal after all, with a whole videogame level dedicated to each of them to boot! There were no descriptions, so the contents are up for speculation at this point.
  2. Maybe, but I doubt it. Like Wizard of Oz, I think these will be licenses that are exclusive to the game. JJ Abrams was in talks to make a Portal movie a while back, but nothing ever came of it as far as I know, so I don't think Warner has a Portal license. TLG probably got the license from Valve after the popularity of the Cuusoo project, but used it for this game instead of producing the Cuusoo set.
  3. Good point, I guess. It just seems odd to get Chell, but not GLaDOS. I thought maybe you could play as her in the open world, controlling machines and such. But since she's just a robot head hanging from a ceiling, I guess you wouldn't be able to move around with her and it would be tricky to build her on one of those Dimensions stands. Unless they use her potato body from Portal 2. So I'm guessing Wheatley and a turret.
  4. I thought about the cube actually, but I don't think it would be of much use in the game or make for an interesting build for that matter. All the other models have either been creatures or vehicles, things that you can play as in the game. The cube wouldn't be playable. I guess it's possible, although having more than one minifigure is a characteristic I thought is supposed to be specific to the Team Packs.
  5. So what kind of builds do you think these level packs will include? Assuming they will be like the BTTF pack, there will be two small builds for each which will be playable objects in the game. For Portal, one of the builds will probably be GLaDOS and the other maybe Wheatley or maybe a turret? Can't think of much else that would be of any in-game use. For the Simpsons, it will probably be Homer with the Simpsons family car and... I don't know... a couch? I'm not a big Simpsons fan, so I can't think of anything that would be iconic enough to include in the set and be playable in the game as well.
  6. Wow, I couldn't believe we'd actually get Portal since it's such a random license (and I still have my doubts) but this pretty much seems to confirm it. Which is awesome! I wonder if the level will actually have the portal gameplay? And if so, will Valve be involved somehow? I really hope the cake isn't a lie in this case.
  7. Sometime in the 17th century, there is an Imperial fort in the middle of the Caribbean where a pirate is being held prisoner. The fort is built on a rocky cove and some of the soldiers swear they have seen a mermaid calling out to them from the water. The Bluecoats think their fort is impenetrable, but a pirate captain is about to lead a raid on the fort to free his captured fellow pirate. Thousands of years later, on a far away asteroid deep in space, history repeats itself as a space pirate is attacking a Galactic Imperial base to break out a fellow pirate from a high-security prison. The Classic Pirates version was built by just2good while the space version was built by me. Let's take a closer look at them, starting with the classic version. The classic fort features a pier, a main building with a crane, and a prison cell with a cannon on top. Like in the official Lego sets, both forts are open backed for easy access to the interior. There is a wooden bridge connecting the pier with the main building, but watch out, some of the planks are a bit decayed and might give in. Inside the building, there is a bottle of rum, a rat, and a map of the area. On the second floor, there is the crane, a barrel with weapons, and a ladder that leads up to the roof. From there, the Bluecoats can look out for incoming ships and fend off enemies with a small catapult. This is also where they keep there equipment and the key to the prison. There is a mermaid that lives in this cove and occasionally seduces the soldiers. While the soldier is distracted, the pirate captain sneaks in to free his friend. The prisoner is free and the pirates have taken back the confiscated treasure! But the Governor won't let them leave without a fight! Here is a better look at the pirates, the mermaid, and some of the accessories. And here are the Bluecoats. Now lets make a time jump to the far future where the Galactic Empire has colonized the far reaches of space. This space fort has the same kind of features as the classic fort: a landing pad, a main building with a crane, a prison tower with a cannon on top, and a small pirate ship. Once again, the back is open for easy play. The door to the main building opens up. Inside the main building are a few computers and a fire extinguisher. Inside the control tower, there is a small armory and a glass dome with HUD displays from where the governor can oversee the entire fort. The laser bars of the prison cell can be raised and so can the light bridge to prevent escapes. Inside the prison cell there isn't much except a bunk. On top of the main building there is a large robotic arm crane for unloading cargo from landed ships. On top of the prison tower, there is a huge laser cannon that can turn 360 degrees and aim up and down. The space pirate captain is dueling the governor for the freedom of his crew member on the landing pad bridge. Here is a closer look at the small ship that the space pirate captain uses to get to the fort. This nimble fighter features the pirate insignia on the wings, a main engine, and two extra thrusters. Here you can see the pirate captain on the right and the pirate prisoner in the middle. The creature on the left is one of the aliens inhabiting the asteroid the fort is built on. It carries some sort of alien artifact. Manning the Imperial fort are the Governor and three bluecoat troopers, named so for their dark blue armor. The troopers have standard issue rifles and blasters whereas the governor carries a golden jetpack and a custom light sword. Note that all these figs have the same faces as in just2good's entry! We hope you enjoyed our entry. You can see more pictures in just2good's Flickr and my photostream.
  8. In the farthest reaches of the outer rim, there is a space pirate who is so feared throughout the galaxy that no one dares speak his name: Captain IronClaw! With his crew of cyborg misfits, he has marauded many planets and killed many people, dodging the Imperial troops of the Galactic Empire every step of the way. When you hear the screeching of his gears and the clanking of his cold iron claw, you better run! Let's meet the cew: Captain IronClaw Captain Iron Claw's past is shrouded in mystery. No one really knows where he came from or even what species he was. All that is known is that he used to be a man who increasingly became fed up with the Empire's rule, so he became an outlaw and cybernetically enhanced his own body until he became the fiercest killing machine the galaxy had ever known. Now his body is comprised of various robotic parts that he acquired throughout his many raids. His signature weapon is a large, sharp claw on his left arm with a built-in ion cannon. Along with his fiery plasma sword, he is ready for any battle! This figure is fully posable and about the same size as a Bigfig. On his back, he carries his dark matter power supply. Hidden behind his faceplate and iron armor is IronClaw's only remaining organic body part: his brain. Parrot Drone X9000 The X9000 is the latest Parrot brand drone (yes, those are still around in the far future). With its silent rotors it can stealthily fly anywhere, and with its high definition camera and microphone, it can spy on enemies and even IronClaw's own crew. Then it can return to Captain IronClaw and repeat the conversations to him, so he always knows the Empire's next move and if there are traitors among his crew. The parrot drone can dock onto IronClaw's right arm, allowing him to download data from the drone directly. Claudette Noxxington Claudette is the daughter of the Admiral Noxxington, the leader of the Galactic Imperial Armada. She developed a very rebellious personality early on due to her father being a rule-following man who spent most of his time away from home, enforcing the Empire's laws. She got kidnapped by Captain IronClaw and his men when they plundered her home planet, but ended up earning their respect and joining their crew in order to spite her father. She has since become IronClaw's second in command and secretly developed a crush on him. The Admiral doesn't believe that his daughter would willingly join the pirates, so he blames Captain IronClaw for her not returning home. He had always been on the hunt for IronClaw, but now it's personal. Scabbers the Cook There is a rat in the kitchen! Or should I say, the rat IS the kitchen. Scabbers was a rat living on IronClaw's ship until he got exposed to radiation from the ship's reactor and was mutated into a human-sized person. Oddly enough, he soon became fascinated with cooking and became the ship's cook. He got himself some robotic legs and continued to enhance himself with various cooking utensils until he became a walking kitchen. Unfortunately, he is not a very good cook, but lucky for IronClaw, he has become so mechanic that he doesn't require food anymore. The abdomen of Scabbers' spider-like robot body doubles as a cooking pot. He can turn his upper body around and start cooking on the built-in stove on his lower body. Sharko the Sharkonian Sharko is a Sharkonian warrior from a water planet simply known as "Shark Planet". He is not the smartest being in the galaxy, but what he lacks in brains he makes up with brawn. When IronClaw first met him, Sharko bit off IronClaw's right leg. Impressed with his strength, IronClaw adopted him into his crew and appointed him his elite bodyguard. He gave him robotic legs so he can walk on land and a breathing apparatus that supplies him with the water he needs to breath. Whenever IronClaw needs to "feed someone to the sharks," he simply hands them off to Sharko. With his razor sharp teeth and large Sharkonian axe, Sharko is one warrior that is not to be messed with. His only weakness is his appetite. He is always hungry and he's the only one on the crew who actually likes Scabbers' cooking. Maraudenator Talk about a skeleton crew. The Maruadenators are mass-produced robot skeletons that make up most of IronClaw's crew. They are merciless, tough to kill, and best of all, expendable. They come equipped with claws on their hands and feet and a standard-issue blaster rifle. I hope you like them and look forward to your comments!
  9. Hi Alucard1977! I'm glad you liked the review and that you enjoyed building this set with your son. There is far too much hate for this set in my opinion, so it's good to hear when people enjoyed it as much as I did. And no, I don't think you did anything wrong. The mirror does indeed sit fairly loose in its frame and mine tilts down too. Which is not really a bad thing as it allows the minifigs to see themselves better.
  10. A wise man once said: "The future is what you make it." And what better way to create the future than to build it out of Lego! Since TLG always strives to inspire the builders of tomorrow, it is only fitting to make one of their Creator sets centered around futuristic vehicles. This 3-in-1 set gives us a glimpse into a possible future with three different kinds of vehicles: a mech, a jet, and a car. But does this future look bright or is it a dystopian nightmare? Let's find out! Set Number: 31034 Name: Future Flyers Theme: Creator Year of Release: 2013 Pieces: 237 Minifigs: 0 Price: $24.99 / €19.99 / £17.99 S@H description: S@H Bricklink Brickset The Box The box art is the same as all the other recent Creator sets featuring a yellow sidebar with the 3-in-1 logo in the upper right corner and the two alternative models displayed in boxes below it. Since this copy of the set came straight from Lego's headquarters in Billund, this is the European version of the box as you can tell by the lack of a set name and part count. The main image depicts the giant robot landing in a desert setting. The sky looks very interesting as it transitions from day to night from the left side of the image to the right and there are some meteors flying overhead. Maybe this is supposed to be some kind of alien planet where such a thing as a half-day-half-night sky can exist. Or maybe it is supposed to indicate the passage of time, symbolizing the movement towards the future... or maybe I'm just reading too much into the background image. The top of the box features the inventory and a 1:1 scale picture using the robot's "eye" for reference. There isn't much on the back of the box. It only shows the 3 different models and a small picture that tells you that the robot's jetpack is detachable. On the right side you can see that this is the type of box that has two tabs which make it easier to open it. I miss these tabs. Why don't American boxes have these tabs anymore? I bet it's because of people ripping them open in stores and stealing their contents. You disappoint me, 'murica! Inside the box there are three instruction booklets, one for each alternate model, and two bags, one smaller than the other. There aren't really any rare parts parts included, however many of them are quite useful, such as the white curved slopes, trans. light blue parts, and big and small ball joints. Here is a random instructions page. The part call-outs and building steps are pretty clear and the light blue background provides a nice contrast to the illustrations. To build up suspense, I will be reviewing the models in order from smallest to largest, building up to the main model. So let's start with the Future Flyers model that is not a flyer at all: The Car The build of the car is pretty straight forward, but somewhat unconventional. The chassis is made up of some parts that would usually not be used for the base of a car, such as wedge plates, curved slopes, and that white boat hull piece. Next, the aforementioned seemingly random parts are covered up by various plates. I like the cylinders in the back here because they give the impression that they could be part of the engine. After about 40 steps, the car is finished. It looks quite nice and does have a somewhat futuristic feel, especially thanks to the trans-light-blue bits. It doesn't resemble any particular existing car, so I'm guessing it's supposed to be a concept car. This is especially evident by the double canopies which are reminiscent of concept cars like the Ford Futura (which later got turned into the 1966 Batmobile). However, I feel like it doesn't really fit into the theme of Future Flyers. I think it would have fit the theme much better if the designers would have made the wheels like the ones of the DeLorean or Nick Fury's car and thereby turned it into flying car. Of course that would have required hinges or other parts that this set doesn't include and I realize that this is just an alternate model, but I'm just nitpicking here. Hey, I think I just figured out what makes this car so futuristic! Look, it has no steering wheel! This here must be one o' them fancy new self-drivin' cars. Unlike the DeLorean, this car fits two minifigs comfortably. However, since the inside of the car is filled with those random pieces, they sit a bit a high. Thanks to all the curvy white slopes, the car has a nice aerodynamic profile. Looking at it from the front, you can see that a ball joint was used to add detail to the grill of the car which is an interesting choice. The back is fairly plain, but it looks quite good. I especially like the use of the light blue dishes as headlights. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the small gaps between the upper corners of the bumper and the fenders, but it's hardly noticeable. Thankfully this is a Creator set; otherwise there would have surely been a license plate sticker covering the 2x4 tile. The Jet Let us now move on to the second alternate model, the jet. Its construction is fairly normal, except that the wings are only attached by one stud. Also, note the Mixels ball joint at the front. I will be talking about it later. The build lasts about as long as that of the car and there are approximately the same amount of parts left over. The finished jet looks very nice and slick. It looks like a high-end jet, and it's a vehicle that is designed to fly, so unlike the car, it fits the Future Flyers theme very well. Here is a look at it from the front. I really like the design of the nose as it cleverly uses the Mixels joint that I pointed out earlier to attach the second sloped wedge part upside down to the bottom of the jet's hull. It looks very good from the side as well. The only things that look a bit off are the gap between the wings and the top part of the plane and the holes in the fins of the jet that are created by the arches, but I don't mind them too much. It has two engines in the back which are constructed using the wheels of the car. I am very happy with how this model came out and I would really like it if it weren't for the play feature. The designers of this set decided to make this a variable wing jet which is not a bad idea as it adds playability. Usually, variable wing jets sweep their wings backwards to increase their speed. But for some reason they chose to base this model on the rare type of jets that sweep their wings forward instead of backwards. I had not even heard of this forward design before and I am not a fan of it. I would have much preferred it if they would have used the swept-backwards wing design which could have easily been done by attaching the wings from the back instead of the front. The wings in the back and the fins can be tilted up and down as well. Here is a comparison of the two flight modes of the jet. To me, the one with the wings folded forward just looks weird, so I'll keep them in their default state. The Robot Now it's time for the main attraction! This is the model I was looking forward to the most, so I saved it for last. You start the build by constructing the robot's torso. Next, you build the arms and legs which can get a bit repetitive because each pair is almost the same. Lastly, you add the jetpack, the head, and the shoulder pads. The finished robot looks quite impressive. He has the same color scheme as the Mindstorms NXT robots which suits him nicely. His design kind of reminds me of a Transformer, like a mixture of Starscream and Soundwave from Transformers Prime. Kinda makes me wish it could transform into a jet without rebuilding it, but Lego probably wont make Transformers anytime soon. That translucent blue dish in his chest is reminiscent of Iron Man's arc reactor. The figure has some interesting proportions with its large hands and feet and it short torso. The wings can be folded up so that they are level. I personally prefer them angled like on the box art though. They can also be folded all the way down for when the robot isn't flying. The jetpack is only attached by a Technic axle to make it easy to remove it if you so wish, however it is stuck in the robot's back so firmly that it is hard to remove it without breaking off a few pieces. Also, as you can see here, the two rockets are only attached by a clip hinge which allows them to be tilted a bit. Not sure what the point of this is, but maybe it's to make them easily removable as well. In addition to the jetpack, the robot also has jet engines built into his feet to help him fly even faster. You can see them in the following picture where he is enjoying a break. What? Even giant crime-fighting robots need to relax every once in a while. The sides of the robot's feet are open so that you can see the jet engines inside which adds some nice detail. Also, there is a red plate with a rail on each foot to keep the knees from bending too far forward. As you can probably tell, the figure is a bit back-heavy, so you may need to lean him forward a bit. This figure has quite a lot of poseability, especially in the arms. The wrists can turn, and the upper legs, shoulders, elbows, and even the head are on ball joints, so you can make a wide variety of poses. And thanks to the shoulder pads being on clip hinges, they are never in the way of posing the arms. Here is the robot taking a fighting stance. Unfortunately, like most Lego mechs, he is missing some articulation in his feet, so you need to balance him on the tips of his toes when spreading his legs. Despite the lack of a hip joint, you can also achieve the overused Iron Man pose: Or if you're more into DC, you can have him do the Superman pose when he's flying. Here is a comparison with Build-A-Buzz, another buildable figure with a jetpack. The robot is about the same size as Buzz (if you don't count the helmet), but while he doesn't have turning hips like Buzz, he has a lot more articulation in his arms and head. Honestly, I wish the Mixels would have come out before the Toy Story sets because Buzz's poseability would have benefited greatly from those small ball joints. Ratings Design: 4/5 - The designs of all three models are pretty good. The robot looks cool and stylish, the jet is sleek, and the car looks sporty. I do have some nitpicks about each of them, like the non-articulated feet of the robot or the reversed variable wings of the jet, and I still don't feel like the car fits the theme of the set, but I get why it's included. Build: 4/5 - The builds are satisfying. It's not too challenging and doesn't take very long, but there are some interesting techniques and the dismantling and rebuilding of the set into the different alternate models will keep you busy for a little while. Playability: 5/5 - I'd say this set is quite playable. The robot has some of the best articulation I have seen in a Creator robot and all three of the models are very swooshable. Parts: 3/5 - Like in most Creator sets, there aren't many rare pieces here, but they are all quite useful, especially for the type of futuristic MOCs that this set is meant for. Price: 2/5 - This is the weakest aspect of the set. $25 for 237 pieces is pretty high, especially for a Creator set. Overall: 4/5 - This set is pretty good as far as 3-in-1 Creator sets go. The main model is great and the alternate models are pretty good too, albeit nothing really special. And it comes with some nice useful parts to boot. The only downside is the price, but I hear that Target has it for $20 which is much more fair, so if you can get it there or at a sale, I'd say pick one up, especially if you're a fan of robots/mechs. I hope you enjoyed this EB Reviewers Academy review. By the way, does anyone else feel like this set was inspired by a certain Collectable Minifigure?
  11. The trailer was ok. It's pretty much what I expected and didn't really show much, which I guess is good. It just doesn't even come close to the Star Wars trailer. Another point for Abrams. Indeed. My question is: Why? There is nothing covering his mouth and I'm pretty sure he can't vibrate his vocal cords, so unless he swallowed a sound mixer, I don't see how it is possible for him to distort his voice. Oh well, I guess I shouldn't question it. I'll take Robo-Batfleck over Bale's Bat-voice any day. Speaking of the Flash, the Arrow/Flash spinoff is rumored to be called Legends of Tomorrow.
  12. I agree. It could just be about Bricksburg falling into a Dark Age, turning into a post-apocalyptic world. That way we could get some cool post-apoc sets! Another thing to think about: The first Movie was a great satire of blockbuster movies. I wonder if The Lego Movie Sequel will be a satire of sequels? It would make sense considering the title and Lord and Miler have done a clever satire of sequels before with 22 Jump Street.
  13. Oh, I see. Yes, I believe that was the poster that was referenced when the question about Ahsoka was asked. If nothing else, this pretty much confirms it. Thanks for sharing!
  14. Well, he was being very vague about it when that question came up, but he said that he discussed it with George and that it is "part of the story that we have to tell you" which along with him being so vague about it tells me that they will definitely meet in some way eventually.
  15. That was awesome!

    Star Wars

It sure is! That last scene gave me goosebumps! The more I see of this film the more excited I get. By the way, if you want to deeplink a youtube video, you need to remove the "s" from "https".
  17. Looks like the scene of Ant-Man fighting Yellow Jacket amongst Lego bricks might actually be in the movie! Fingers crossed!
  18. Thanks! Yes, but I think it's just one. True, but I did say "to date". Definitely gonna add that one to my collection as well!
  19. Thanks! Here are two more puns with Chopper and superheroes: Wolverine's Chopper Showdown by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr Pesky Vision by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr
  20. Thanks to CopMike and K-Nut, my Unikitty collection is now complete! So I decided to take a picture of all the different variations that we have gotten to date of everyone's favorite bipolar princess! Except for the regular version which didn't fit into the picture. The Many Faces of Unikitty by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr
  21. I just noticed that Unikitty has an open mouth on the box art, but a closed mouth on the actual figure. Do you guys think she might come with an alternate head like in the DDC and the SDCC sets? Then again, other figures don't completely match the box art either, like Emmet and the Wickhed Witch, so it might just be an approximate render of the character. Also, do you think there will be any pre-order exclusives for this game?
  22. I'm not a fan of these toy-to-life games since I don't like the idea of having to purchase each character separately, but I'll probably get this if only for the BTTF level pack alone. Dat Hoverboard! The guitar and mini DeLorean are nice too. I wish Marty would at least have some different face printing, but I'll take what I can get. Definitely getting that adorable Unikitty variation as well! It's nice of Gandalf to step in for Vitruvius in the Starter Pack. $100 for that pack does seem quite high, although it kinda makes sense if you calculate about $50 for the game, $30 for the 269 pieces and minifigs, and $20 for the toy pad. The expansion packs also seem quite high if the reported prices are true. The Wizard of Oz is indeed a surprise. With other Ideas licenses being in the game, perhaps we'll be getting that Lego Ideas Wizard of Oz set after all? I hope TLG uses this opportunity to give us minifigs that we would otherwise not be able to get. There are still so many DC Comics, BTTF, LotR, and Ghostbusters characters we could get. Maybe they saved Raven and New 52 Harley Quinn for these fun packs? I hope not because those are characters we could easily get in a regular set which I would much prefer. I really wish we could have Disney and Nickelodeon licenses in this game as well... Also, where is Harry Potter? If LotR can be in the game, I don't see why HP couldn't. There better be an expansion for him and maybe Fantastic Beasts down the line. I think you mean beware the power of Rock! Seriously though, coupled with Doc's sound system, Marty's guitar could be a weapon not to be trifled with.
  23. Not bad, Dorayaki, but I think it is indeed a bit early for that Emma Watson funny. As for the funny with Phillip, the same joke could be made with Snow White. By the way, how do you know there is a Prince Phillip coming next year?
  24. Clone-cy Brown by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr Witchy Godmother by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr Minion by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr
  25. Well, he did say that this is legit and to take his word for it... We'll have to wait and see I guess. And yes, there is lots of potential and demand for this! Not to mention they don't really count as Disney characters. Look a few posts up. New molds never seem to be an issue for CMFs (as evidenced by the Simpsons), so getting characters like Stitch wont be a problem! However, I would assume that they would start with classic characters like Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Pluto, etc. before making more obscure characters like Stitch.
