Generic Contest Discussion
pow replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
what about a transportation contest, where we build a vehicle (ship, truck, plane, etc.) that carries another vehicle. -> The load, a.k.a. subbuild, needs to be autarkic. So a Titanic with loads of small lifeboats wouldn't count. examples 42098 car transporter, 42076 Hovercraft, 42060 Roadwork crew, 42175 Truck + Excavator, 42064 Ocean Explorer? Don't know if the submarine can be seen as autarkic. -
2025 Technic Sets Discussion
pow replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Guys you are hilarious! Fantastic work BTW, also for @Ngoc Nguyen! I always wonder why people are mad about Lego not producing this or that. While the solution is just a few bugs and a download away. -
42203 Tipping Dump Truck
pow replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As it's just a resized version of the 42147 Dump Truck. I would say it is some kind of SEO/marketing hack. According to rebrickable, the 42147 Dunp Truck has nearly 80k views. All the other small technic sets only have 40k views. ...supporting my theory, "a set that performs, gets repeated by TLG over and over again". And people using the search term "Dump Truck alternates" (or similar) will find this set. ...just a theory. -
42197 Backhoe Loader
pow replied to Auroralampinen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Never compare this set to 42116 https://rebrickable.com/sets/42116-1/skid-steer-loader 140 pieces and a seat for a Minifig (and of course no steering, fun fact rebrickable tagged it with "hog steering") I was full of hope that we get a new little power horse after this year's half finished 42163-Bulldozer. Because I actually did a transformer for the 42147 Dumb Truck, a super versatile set!! Sry for the advertising. Link to Transformer >>> https://youtu.be/TWNdHtbiqAU -
I like the corvette. The overall shape is very well done! But we all know, the Supra will be the set, that gets all the love. Yellow is a nice colour. I hope TLG recolours it into medium blue or dark blue. It would colour complement the Supra which could make both cars pop when presented next to each other in stores. The next step for the Technic Design Team could be to improve the front wheel-movement + wheel-arch. The whole construction is way to open. It was acceptable in the jesko, because of the scissor doors. But it's just okay-ish on the stingray. So a new wheel- or wheel-mount-design that allows rotation on point (without the heavy forward-backward-movement) could be a good idea. Or what about virtual pivot point steering Lego? The rear lights are sad and the pipe print is just not acceptable! But don't get me wrong, i like this set! At first glance the jesko is the better set (especially as a parts pack and for doing alternates). It comes with loads of gears (thanks to the scissor doors). Plus the build of the engine cover is just sick! Oh and i still would love to see a (single) shock absorber in this kind of set. Maybe as a bi stable mechanism for the engine cover. And of course lots of different gears! That would spice up the alternates. And i hope they keep the differentials in.

Why not doing a kickstarter to sell your instructon? But i have to admit your complete marketing strategy isn't keeping up with the quality of your build. Featured you on my tiny channel. ;-)

what are the most compact cars?

You could also go for a monster jam RC upgrde like this: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-98388/msk6003/monster-jam-rc-double-set/#details -
2025 Technic Sets Discussion
pow replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hm, selling a Supra that needs two licenses (from Toyota and Universal Pictures) plus Inflation for 60 Money seems to be okay, if you're not living in a tent. But why is the Stingray that expensive too? -
Thirdwigg's MOCs
pow replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No way! are they kidding? Its not that bricklink(studio) could be seen as part of the Lego Group. And we are doing Lego's B-models and don't even get digital versions of the pieces right in time, after release. ...Your build is still awesome! -

fluent design. Lots of great design solutions. The boxer engine is funny ( in a positive way). Very good looking! And the instruction is pretty good too! Just one minor thing: Why did you use the printed fenders from the bugatti within the instruction? -
[TC27] Drift Kart & Driver
pow replied to JoKo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's hilarious! And seems to be fast!? (When) Do we get more footage? How hard is it to squeeze the black 3L Pin with axle hole (87082) into the Pin Connector Toggle Joint (87408) - that thingy under the steering wheel? -
I bet most of you know the Peel P50. Jeremy Clarkson used to drive it around the BBC office. Here is an alternate version for the Dump Truck. It comes with some sort of fake engine and steering, which is hard to reach to be honest. The build makes use of 161 pieces of the 42147 Dump Truck. No spare parts where used. Pictures say more then a thousand words... title-1270-logo by Pow, auf Flickr Rear View by Pow, auf Flickr Steering by Pow, auf Flickr Engine by Pow, auf Flickr Find the build instruction on youtube or Ko-Fi($) And there are more than 30 additional alternates for the dump truck on my channel. Nearly all with feature.

42176 Porsche GT4 e-Performance
pow replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I start to like this set! The rear end part of the exterior is very good looking (at least to me). But the front is a revival of the flat nose. The distinct porsche shape with the slightly more flat bonnet (compared to the fenders) is missing here, which makes the car look random. I also wonder how long it will take till folks find a way to flash a non-lego-firmware onto the new hub. Could be used to add a piston engine. ...Or imagine a Batmobile with rotating flames coming out of the afterburner(?)-thingy. Kids would love that! -

FYI Technic for Science

Interesting! I tried to find public information on how they use lego at the innovation center. But i just dug out an article for a microscope developed somewhere(!) at ibm. https://ibm-research.medium.com/ibm-open-sources-300-fully-functional-lego-microscope-design-248a6cdc81bf That kills me! The videos are amazing! The reverse engineering is brilliant and the old all dusty lego prototype looks so "different" and works so well! It's ingenious! i wonder how they managed to squeeze out 150 patents out of that idea! And i wonder if that system nowadays could be build without manipulating pieces. just found a video from chrysler showing how to operate the seats. youtu.be/8Wq6N-SjaRw ...developing those mechanisms must have felt like like rocket science. -
Dear moderator feel free to move this topic to a different subforum. But I think it fits very well to the Lego Technic subforum as it shows how useful Technic is. I found this very interesting article about scientists who started building Lego Technic devices for their labs to get special tasks done... https://www.technologyreview.com/2024/06/25/1093639/lego-bricks-science-accessibility/ pretty inspiring isn't it? I'm in love! ...very honest man love for rally cars!!! That's my soft spot! And your car is impressive as always! But why are there rubber bands on the blades? Don't be afraid of loosing pieces, it's a rally car! Oh and i like the red panels you used for the rear lights! Way better (a.k.a. more robust) than a system brick solution!

[TC27] 90s Kei Truck

interesting build strategy using the yellow frame to mock up the overall shape. Are you building only digital or do do develop single elements like the drive train by hand?
