2014 Technic in North America?
jadedomg replied to weavil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
August 2014. The retailer catalog for north america only had technic in August. -
I knew next to nothing about how vehicles worked, even in my 20's. I now know a bit more thanks to how the technic sets/flagships work. Gear ratios, transmissions, differentials , suspensions (the one on the unimog is really neat) and even some pneumatic stuff. I also learned patience and learning how to pace myself and not get frustrated after being disabled which saved my sanity and probably my life.

Connecting Tri-Liftarms
jadedomg replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=92338 You could try using the 5L chain with studs on the ends to keep them together, they will still have some play but they wont fall down towards the edge of the triangle -

As always your models amaze with how much you can get in the size and how good they look at the same time. -
Sell 8043 for 42009?
jadedomg replied to junglistjoey's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
8043's B model is one of my favorite and for that reason alone I would keep it. Like others say you have over a year to buy 42009. -
I turn the wheels to the side and have never had them crash. I got the shelf at rona for $60 and the middle of the shelves are held in place by little dowel pegs because lego isn't that heavy it would keep its shape without it at least. pick up truck and b model of the racing truck that wasn't so great as a technic model but at least the b model looked pretty good!

Real or Third-Party part?
jadedomg replied to TasV's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It just looks like a ball bearing in a unimog joint. I think it would be cheaper to bricklink the part then find the right size bearing and put them together if you need multiple of the part then pay $15 for 2. -
Took me the better part of a week to build this and I love it. 8053 was one of my first technic sets when I started 2 years ago and I liked it but this blew that set out of the water! I did use paracord inner strands instead of the lego cord as I plan to keep this one assembled for a while and it isn't such a dust magnet and much stronger. If I can afford picking up another one just for parts as it has a lot of great parts in it for the price I will be doing so.

rebrickable has the full list for 41999 http://rebrickable.com/sets/41999-1/4-x-4-crawler-exclusive-edition-quot;boss-crawlerquot;-co-cr-technic-2013 Just change the beams and connectors to black and you are good to go, I actually bought a bunch of 2L axles off bricklink that were black as well.

Was given this for my birthday and can't wait to start it. I didn't know what it was because the box was so heavy and I had no idea it was lego let alone this set. Now I just need to clean up my lego table so I can get started on it this weekend as I think I am going to need every inch of space for it!

New 6 hole rims at 42000 and 9398
jadedomg replied to rm8's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Using a soldering iron you can just melt out the foam fairly easy in 3rd party tires and try line it up with the reinforcements in the rim so the tire will fit better. It is much easier then trying to cut the foam out with a knife. Just dont touch the rubber :-p -
Very nice set, I think I have almost all the parts to make it except for the battery box and LED lights.

I haven't seen it at any stores in canada in 2 years. You don't see much technic on shelves and if you do it is usually the smaller sets except for right before christmas toysrus had piles and piles of 9398 I would love 8466 but it was before my time so i don't let not getting it bug me :p if I went back in time for all the sets I want I wouldn't have any more space in my house and my bank account would be empty!

I do the same thing with sets that I want to apply the stickers too, a friend works at a print shop for car wraps and makes me nice vinyl stickers for the rare set I put stickers on. I am not a huge fan of stickers and like the clean look without them. This set is improved by them.
