10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Triceron replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This is me. I've never had a true Castle as a kid, only small box sets, anything from a bonus pack, or at most, a medium sized set. Inflation is understandable, but I feel like things really jumped up in the last few years more than anything. I only started back up a couple years ago, and it seems like you got way more bang for your buck in 2011 and earlier than you do now, prices adjusted for inflation and all. Like a Fantasy Chess sets with all the detailed minifigures for like $50... you'd never see that today, even for $200. That's actually a pretty good idea. With an improvise a roof or covering, you could could probably make the bottom half into a new building .- 2,976 replies

Most of my sets are on shelves in my apartment, but right now I'm living in my wife's apartment with inlaws, and there's almost no space for my sets. I would love to dedicate a room for my Lego collection, but housing prices are insane right now here, like 4million for a very regular sized house. Right now I'm not even sure where I'd even put the Lion Knight's Castle if I got it, haha. I think I might have to bring some back to my parents place for storage.

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set

Great progress! I really appreciate all the comparison shots as well! The Mill Village buildings are pretty decently sized. Still a little big for my taste, but I think it's acceptable after seeing them placed. I think if it could be shrunk down by 20% to better fit. This is still a good jumping point for sizing up any peasant cottage mocs. I'm a sucker for Warcraft's building styles as well. I'm thinking of peppering some small farmhouses inside the castle walls when opened up to give it a grander sense of scale.- 2,976 replies

While I think the Village sets would work nicely, I think even they would be slightly large compared to the Castle. The issue I have is how low the castle walls seem to be. The walls are supposed to prevent any attackers from seeing any buildings inside. The high walls offer the best protection from any siege weapons. If regular buildings can be seen peeking above the walls, then they would be easy targets for catapults and siege weapons. I think either the Castle walls would need to be raised, or the village buildings will need to be reduced in size to fit with the rest of the Castle.- 2,976 replies

I imagine they could use something similar to this piece. They use this as a 'bucket' for some other Lego line sets, but the black version only comes from Bionicle. It'd be a bit smaller than the current platform the Windship uses though.

I totally get that. I'm personally torn between remakes and new stuff. On the one hand, I'm a sucker for seeing before-and-after comparisons between something old and what it could look like today, like the Forest Hideout and the Galaxy Explorer. On the other hand, having something new wouldn't compete with people who actually have the old sets and want to display them alongside the new ones, like the new Castle being its own thing instead of just a remake of Lion King's Castle, or a thematic remix like Barracuda's Bay or Castle in the Forest. I have a lot of nostalgia for Wolfpack Tower and Majisto's Magic Workshop, and I think I'd prefer those two remaining fresh in my memory rather than be reimagined into something modern. I'd rather they do something fresh like the Ideas Blacksmith, where they can take something niche and give it 110%. Mix it up like a Medieval Village 'Wolfpack Village Raid', or a modern tensegrity Majisto's Floating Fortress.- 2,976 replies

I really dig this build. It looks like it's very posable. I would love to see it in some different poses.

I remember seeing this when I was a kid and thinking how weird it was, like an upside down hot air balloon. But now seeing like this, I can see how it looks kinda like a cauldron.

I was very lucky to have that one as a kid. It was my first real personal pick of Lego, and my favourite as a kid. Even back then, I never mixed and matched any of the parts, and I still have them configured in the same way on the box! I love how they use the top half of torso's for little dudes in the water.- 2,976 replies

So I did a bit of digging. The closest report (in English) I could find was this: https://www.brickfanatics.com/second-lego-castle-rumoured-90th-anniversary/ LEGO fan website Wooden Duck has now hinted at a potential third 90th anniversary set for 2022, again based on a Classic Castle subtheme. In a recent post, the Chinese outlet teased the mysterious model with a catalogue spread of Forestmen sets, implying it’ll take inspiration from the late ‘80s run of castles, fortresses and hideouts built around vast trees. And in this picture, we actually do see the Forestmen's Hideout. But I'll take another Forestman set if that's what it's hinting at, haha. Hell, I'll even take just having the new Forestman torsos on PAB! I'll make my own army :D- 2,976 replies

That's a real cool build! Man, that's super recent too since it's using the new flag from the Lion Knight's Castle.- 2,976 replies

I mean, that makes sense if it's a case of them not finding any other use for it outside of Castle, which they've pretty much retired. If they're just using the new flame as new plumes, then they don't need to keep the old one around at all. Still, I think it is the better looking plume. I mean they even made a custom mold for Road Runner's hair, and that's not being used anywhere else. I just think it's a bit of a lost opportunity not to bring it back since this new Castle set is perfect for it, especially since they're bringing back the classic Visor helms. I find the Flame plumes to not look as good with the classic style helmets; my personal opinion.- 2,976 replies

@Follows Closely Thanks! Great to see them side by side, I have a much better idea of the size and space it takes up. I didn't think the Blacksmith would tower over the castle walls, haha. I think since the size differences are this notable, I will display them separately. Since people are talking about the quills, does anyone know why they retired the classic Plumes? I think these are the best looking ones of the bunch, and they seem to still make and release the smaller ones. I'm not sure why they replaced these ones with the new 'Flame' piece instead of having both.- 2,976 replies

I think the blue crown works with the rest of the color scheme, even if it's a bit gaudy. Still, odd to me that the Black Falcons would have a King, even seeing it like this now.- 2,976 replies

Mine finally came in today. Anticipating cracking it open this weekend.

Hmm, that's a little disconcerting since we're mid-way into 2022 now. But that is still great information to have, thank you both!

Does anyone know how long it took for the BF torsos to appear on PAB after the Blacksmith set came out? Just want to get a general idea of when we might expect the Lion Knight and Forestmen torsos to hit, if they do.

Ahh, yeah. That won't help at all, since we can't really get access to a mix of accessories or torsos. Heads are so cheap it's not even worth counting towards the limit if you can avoid em.- 2,976 replies

Same happened to me. If I knew about Pickabrick before the 15th, I woulda loaded up on BF torsos and legs instead of getting a 'throwaway' Santa sleigh set. I'll have to wait around and see if they might be back in stock later this year.
