  1. To be fair, their current outlook on modern kids banks on 'Superhero' themes. And I don't blame them, since the ensemble cast of powerful heroes is what kids are into, even back in the 80's. So I can see why they wouldn't make a Classic Castle or Classic Pirates TV series for kids when they could focus on series like Ninjago and Monkie Kid that hits the same market with more success. I do think that the Classic Castle theme is best appealed to AFOLs who grew up with Castle rather than say incorporating modern kid-friendly techniques to make it more appealing to a new audience. Like, it's hard enough to come across these Classic Castle revamps. I don't know how I'd feel if, say for example, they start making 4+ style builds like we've seen recently for Marvel and Ninjago just to appeal to a new generation of fans. I'm not interested in seeing Wolfpack return to be modernized into a band of bungling, accident-prone bandits for the sake of comic relief. Just throw some minifigures in a set with bare minimum context and let our imaginations do the rest. What they're currently doing with Blacksmith, Lion Knight's Castle and Forest Hideout are perfect.
  2. I've been contemplating something similar. I bought the Blacksmith with the intention of using its parts and general design to make an open Tavern display, full emphasis on the interiour with just hints of exterior walls on the side. I ended up liking the official build too much to care to take it apart, but I think that's a good idea on using Stud.io to plan out mocs, I hadn't thought of this. Is there a way to have Stud.io limit your parts usage based on sets?
  3. Nexo Knights has new molds, but still doesn't really have the modular animals that I was talking about :P There are some cool stone-like enemies from the series that I like, but I still feel like Nexo Knights is too far removed from what I would put in my own collection. I find a lot of the designs border too much on what I consider 'alien' more than fantasy. I have that same love-hate relationship with many of the Ninjago Dragons, where there's some parts I really like but also some parts that make me scratch my head at how that is a Dragon at all. It's once in a blue moon when they hit the nail on the head and make an impressive build like the Skull Sorcerer's Dragon. I tend to look at Harry Potter as a better (modern) source for brick-built and molded fantasy creatures than Nexo Knights or Ninjago. It's where we got Centaurs, Griffons, Phoenix, 'Nightmare' Thestral, Spirit animal Patronuses, and more. And I'm really digging their brick built flying creature series like Hedwig, Fawkes and the new Horntail. They're great minifigure scaled 'Dire' creatures that you could mount a few minis on or have attacking your castle towers.
  4. I'm okay with the colors of the single monotone grey, but I prefer it broken up with some dark greys here and there. Like how even the classic Wall plates have some dark grey stonework, this could have helped add some color variety without being overly contrasted.
  5. I have to say I'm always jealous of all these other themes getting brand new molds while the time has 'passed' for Castle to get the same treatment. There's so much potential in having modular animal parts if they ever got around to designing them. Swappable heads for different animals would make for some really cool mount variations.
  6. https://www.brothers-brick.com/2022/07/20/four-new-lego-avatar-sets-revealed-at-san-diego-comic-con-news/ Wondering what people think about the new Avatar 2 sets, and if there's any creative use of the new parts to make fantasy creatures or settings. I'm not too sure what I'd do with the minifigures, but the flying creatures look like they could be great heads for some Wyverns or Dragons, or maybe even a Hydra.
  7. Had some time back at my apartment, so I took a picture of my Cyclops army. The Hulk body is a knockoff brand, only because Lego never made any Hulks with detachable heads. I'd normally avoid having non-Lego pieces, but the idea of a buff cylops was too hard to pass up.
  8. I like it! I might consider building something like this if it fits minifigure scale. Great to have mounted on a castle tower to shoot down some massive foes!
  9. Hmm, did the Vidyo Blind Boxes have any barcode differences? Good to know the PAB has em all in the system even if they're not available yet. I missed out on grabbing some Black Falcons, I wish I knew of the system before I bought some miscellanous sets to get the Forest Hideout. I'd rather have gotten $50 worth of Black Falcon torsos and legs when they were still in stock. I'll just have to wait for them to get back in stock, hopefully during another good sale.
  10. To be very honest, I'd very likely be hunting for any new Castle CMF figures in the aftermarket. If the FOMO gets too strong, this might push me into my next Dark Ages after this set.
  11. It would make more sense if it were the Black Knights, who continue to be popular today and rival the Classic factions they're releasing so far. Black Knights are literally the next in line after Crusaders, Black Falcons and Forestmen.
  12. Not sure about any other locations, but the ones near me are usually good with stock for day 1 release. They just don't stock a whole lot so it goes fast. Nothing is ever a guarantee, and they could also run into shipping issues on first day. Best bet, call in before-hand or talk to some employees and ask about stock, it might help get a gauge on how they stock and give them a better idea to prepare for a high demand. There's a few things like Delorean that I've never seen back in stock at my local stores, but having talked to employees I at least know they've had em in stock, only that they usually sell out real quick. You could also probably ask if they would be open to setting one aside for you if you were planning on a day 1 pickup.
  13. Oh, I absolutely agree. Witch's magic manor is the ugliest thing I've ever came across. It was a birthday gift from my parents cuz they knew I was big into Lego Castle and this just happened to be the affordable set that was new and out at the time. I'm still happy I have it because there's a lot of minis and accessories in there, but yeah it's not a set I would have ever gone out and asked for. The only good thing about all the BURPS is that I can use it for my other mocs. With enough greebling, BURPS can still be useful as a base to give some sets some elevation. As for the Chains, I actually really like them and I'm happy I have them from this set. They came in handy for making some Tensegrity Mocs that were so popular a couple years back.
  14. You get +10 points for having the Wolfpack take over!
  15. I don't have any real interest in Chima, but it surprises me how cheap the minis are in the aftermarket. I bought a few of the Wolf dudes and gem em in armor the CMF Fright Knight shields as wolf-men soldiers in my Fright Knight army. If I'm ever buying a big bundle from Bricklink, I always check if they have of wolf dudes to pick up for cheap.
  16. Same happened to me, I missed out mostly due to Covid and avoiding going out during the time the CMF came out, namely because my wife was pregnant at the time and we tried to minimize any outdoor exposure. And whenever I did get to the stores, it was always hard to find that series because the usual outlets weren't stocking up on Lego as often as they usually had, or they had places that didn't let you feel the bags (again due to Covid). I was never interested in the Tournament Knight and was okay with skipping it, but now I do feel like I missed out because it's actually a pretty cool minifig. Frightening Knight (green bear) is also one that I really want to have. There are enough CMF knights to build up a mini 'Round Table' of characters.
  17. We have a chance with this current reboot! :P Also, gems like the Rogue (Wolfpack), Fright Knight and the upcoming Princess/Heart Knight are great throwbacks to 70's-90's Castle. They'll throw in some Knights or Fantasy characters that do help expand on Castle, but only as individual minis. I'm just holding on hope they could make a return to some modernized classics the same way they've done for the CMF series.
  18. What I would really kill for are new factions in the same vein as the Classic Castle series. Looking back at the series, what really sparked my joy in the different themes was not just the big castles, but the way each theme expanded the greater 'world'. You have the classic castles with Crusaders and Black Knights. Then you had Robin Hood style forest sets with Forestmen. Then Black Knights introduced the Black stoned Castles and Boats. Wolfpack had the large Tower, Dragon Masters had a Wizard's Workshop and Dragons, Royal Knights had a royal Drawbridge. It felt like each new faction was expanding the world, and that's what I really liked about the theme. Stuff like MMV and MVR are also looked upon very fondly and opened up the Castle themes. And with the latest Medieval Blacksmith set, there is a lot of interest in Medieval setting sets that aren't just big Castles. I constantly wonder what would happen if they continued the Castle themes tied into the 90's era and expand it the way Wolfpack were roving bandits and the Dragon Masters were Dragon Hunters. Something like a Barbarian faction of Berserkers, Druids and Grizzly Bears, or a faction of Questing Knights who search for ancient relics and magical artifacts.
  19. I only started buying Lego online recently, so I'm not too familiar with the trends for sales. I hear this is a Direct to Consumer product, so does that mean they will only exclusively sell this set through Lego stores and Lego online? Or is it just an limited time exclusivity thing? I thought Monkie Kid sets were also D2C, but it seems like they eventually made their way to other outlets like Amazon, where I got my Monkie Kid sets at discount. I'm not sure if this is the same thing, or if it's meant to stay exclusive like the Build a Minis and Gift with Purchases.
  20. I never had a proper Castle set back as a kid, so I can't say I have any experience with any of that. At most, I took all my old smaller sets and moc'd em up into big castles. The only real castle I own is the Monster Fighter's Vampyre Castle which I picked up a couple years back on the after market. Lion Knight's Castle will be my first official Castle in my collection.
  21. I had Witch's Magic Manor and the Batlord + Black Dragon mini set were my only sets from this era. If the Bull Knights came right after, I would have continued collecting, but they switched up to Ninja theme and that's when I entered my Dark Ages. Also love Steve's Lego Blog. I'd love to hear his opinion on all the recent Classic Castle revival :D It's also kind of sad that there isn't more of a dedicated Wiki for Lego history. His blog is so much more elaborate (and entertaining!) than anything else I've seen.
  22. There's different lore depending on where you're from. It seems like Lego has different localization for their sets, and always have since early Castle days. http://legosteveblog.blogspot.com/2012/02/lego-fright-knights-1997-1998.html There's a short story from some magazine that had the origins of the Batlord. Other than that, Lego pretty much left them to the imagination, and they're mainly rivals for the Royal Knights and the other factions.
  23. Both designs have their merits. The Madewithbrix design is really solid and looks very good IMO. It's a very nice looking castle with some neat interiors. My only drawback here is that it doesn't look like it would fit many minis to display. 10305 selling point is the minifigures and the play features. I have to say, the more I looked into this castle through the reviews, the more I am falling in love with this set and seeing past the 'bland gray walls' impression I had initially. This is built more to present army vs army display. And as a minifig collector, this is exactly what I wanted out of an iconic Lego Castle set. The Vampyre Castle is one of my favourites, and I'm very happy how well it fits for my Fright Knight's base of operations. I had Witch's Magical Manor, and I always thought it was an awkward design for what really should have been a gothic castle centerpiece like this one. It even has a bubbling cauldron that's perfect for Willa!
  24. Johnny Depp reference? :P Also, love the fact they're using the same gold coins as we saw in the Troubadour CMF.
  25. I love the little details. The little Lizard dude is from Frozen sets, right? Also, very nice collection of books there :)
