  1. I'm considering downgrading the Blacksmith to a smaller moc to have it fit better with the castle. Something like this might work better scale, and use the rest of the parts to fashion another small building or outdoor marketplace, and use the interior pieces to further decorate the castle. I have Hagrid's Hut ready to be pieced out for this as well.
  2. Good to see that confirmed by someone who actually got to see the set!
  3. Just came across this interview. Full breakdown of the castle, and we finally get some clear shots of the back! And a neat little hint at something more at the end. Good to know there's still some secrets they're keeping for later reveals!
  4. Well, none of us can really answer that since it's potentially a prototype we're seeing. We'll just have to wait and see :)
  5. I think this is spot on. This is my problem with Castle being part of the Creator line. Everything would be brick built and they throw in more color palettes that might not be suitable for a certain Castle faction set. Like the Forestmen promo is near-perfect recreation of a classic set, and follows all the simple rules that the original Castle line follows. If this was remade in the Creator line, I'd expect it to look more like other Creator 3-in-1 sets, with brick built everything and more colors all around. The new 3-in-1 Castle is very cool, and I've seen people do some great things with multiple sets and using most of the parts. But I personally don't think it would work well for reimagining most of the Castle line. What they're doing with the 90th anniversary has set a bar for what I'd expect for any future Castle sets. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dogging on Creator at all. I'm fine if Lego wants to make more Castle-themed sets for Creator. I just don't see Creator being a good way to support a true-to-Castle theme. Ideas and Icons is where I have my eyes set on now.
  6. I can see the Queen's and the classic castle shields possibly being stickered, but I doubt the main 6 would be considering they have so many of them. It would be really odd if they were.
  7. Ah! Good to see that there are going to be 6 shields after all!
  8. So taking a more indepth look at the Lion emblems, I do start to have nitpicks. The classic Lion logo has a red 'Tongue' in the mouth, making it look like it's roaring ferociously. The new one has a wavy red line some distance away from the mouth, which makes it look like the new Lion is breathing fire. I wish they could have planted it right in the mouth or at least closer to the lips. Also I wish the emblems were changed up for the Barding. The original Lion Knight's barding had a different pose for the lion which I half-expected them to update as well, but they just stamped the regular Lion emblem on there. Same with the Black Falcon ones. The emblem print on the new barding is smaller than the print on the shield. I think they should have made it bigger or more prominent, or somehow more integrated into the barding design than just being stamped-and-centered. Even the classic barding above has a larger Lion print than any of the shields or torsos.
  9. You can see more clearly on the 360 turnaround on the Lego page for the set https://www.lego.com/en-ca/product/lion-knights-castle-10305 The black square is actually just bad lighting for a dark grey window for the mill. For some reason, it looks like a darker grey window than the other windows in the castle.
  10. My dark ages started after Fright Knights, when they jumped to the Ninja theme and I focused my efforts straight into PC gaming. I never had any big castle sets, only having mid-sized 'Fortress' style sets and a whole bunch of small sets to make up the rest. The biggest set I had back in the day was the Magical Witch's Manor, which IMO was a terrible looking 'castle'. Black Monarch's Castle is still one of my white whales, but I'm slowly moving past it since I have more than enough Black Knights sets to build my own version of a large castle. I just got back into Lego a couple years back, so I'm slowly building up again and adding a whole bunch of stuff I missed out on. I now have a couple Fantasy era sets, some Harry Potter sets that have interesting mythical creatures, the Monster Fighters Vampyre Castle, and some Ninjago dragons and big sets. Also a whole bunch of CMF, Facebook Marketplace and bricklink orders to build a wider 'fantasy' theme. The Vampyre's Castle is one of my favourite recent sets. I modified it with a bunch of the new Fright Knight shields and every CMF monster and evil wizard to build a sizeable army. I've got everything from Chima wolf dudes to the Ninjago Bone Dragon here. Since I never had an official large Castle from the 80's-90's, this Lion Knight's Castle is something I've been waiting a long time for. I've even returned the 3-in-1 castle on an impulse purchase when I heard news of this Castle coming over the horizon. The only thing that sucks is gonna be the wait for a discount.
  11. Darn it, now you're really having me consider making a moc for that.... Now I really wished they made some big Black Falcon banners
  12. https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=27261#T=C Looks like no red, only reddish-brown being the closest color. -Edit- Oops, looks like I was wrong. There IS a dark red, just no bright colored red if that's what you were looking for.
  13. Historically, there were no known female knights. Even Joan of Arc was never knighted, she merely fought as a soldier. There were women who fulfilled chivalric duties, but none formally in history recognized as a 'Knight'. So for any argument that this 'pushes men aside' as well as being 'historically accurate' would be regarding this role as an exclusively male title in history and wanting to keep it that way. I don't think that Castle has ever really presented itself to historic accuracy, which is why I think this is a non-argument. And considering the set has 50/50 representation and not 'more females knights than males', I don't really consider the points being true at all. "Knight" is also quite a loose definition considering it could mean anyone wearing armor. The guy who made the video even clarifies that he thinks X guy in armor is only a squire while Y girl in armor is clearly a Knight which is what he's using as his argument to say all Knights are female. It's a stretch, to say the least. Except I haven't made any arguments against this, because that's how I feel as well. I prefer a male-centric army. My argument is that making statements beyond expressing a preference is needlessly politicizing something that (IMO) isn't that big of a deal. I absolutely agree, but it's a bit hard to take seriously when you used 'Woke' multiple times in your own post.
  14. It's a complete MESS right now! I've searched for specific names only to find the search engine doesn't even recognize it, and I had to cross reference the right part through Bricklink to make it work. Like all hair is listed under 'Wig', so you won't get any good searches under 'Hair'. Or Ponytail will give you zero results, while the part I want is listed as a 'Pony Tail'. Or the Lego Horses are under 'Animal', while a search result for 'Horse' only shows you the Friends line of horse figures. It's so hit and miss! I wish they would just use the Bricklink system which is way more use friendly. And as said above, if something is sold out it doesn't show up at all. It's quite dumb that way.
  15. Hard to say, since it seems like Lego needed a major event like the 90th anniversary poll just to get off their arses to make a new Castle set. I personally don't see this extending well beyond a one-off nostalgia cash in for them. I think they're more aware of the demand now than ever before, but I don't think it's enough to motivate them dedicating a new theme/subtheme to recapture the classics. I mean, I can always hope that they do, but it's hard to base any expectations of future Castle sets off a 90th Anniversary set and promotional gift.
  16. Online, through Pick-a-Brick. In their main homepage, in the drop down go search under 'Bricks', and Pick a Brick is their latest system instead of the old Bricks and Pieces system. From there, do a search for 'Upper Part' and 'Lower Part' for minifigure torsos and legs. Black Falcon is a bestseller, and should be one of the first on the list. But right now (as we speak) the Falcon torsos are sold out. They were available a couple days ago though, and I think they will come back when in stock again. And I was using Canadian dollars above, so prices will probably be cheaper in USD.
  17. To be honest, I think Pick a Brick mostly replaces that. Black Falcon Torso and Legs are about $2, Heads are about 30 cents, shield is another 1.50, basic weapons and helmets start at 30c. So roughly $3-6 a mini depending on armor/helmet/weapons. As long as they get the Forestmen and Lion Knights up on Pick a Brick, I'm not sure we even need battle packs. We would be able to order as many as we'd like without getting extras of one faction over another.
  18. Well, the video you're arguing in favour for literally talks about 'pushing men aside' and that 'all the knights are female'. I think that's quite a reach. The set has 50/50 male and females, these are the facts. We can talk about it one way or another, but to make an argument that it 'pushes men aside' or that 'all the knights are female' is quite a focused argument, one that undermines any reasonable means to have female representation in the set. What amount of female knights would not be considered 'pushing men aside'? Well the only answer is zero female knights. The argument itself is rooted in bigotry. It goes out of its way to paint a picture of it being politically wrong, and questions whether it's worth upsetting the AFOLs by 'pushing men aside'. I personally don't think this is a reasonable argument. And anyone using the 'historically knights were only male' argument is a non-argument, because Lego Castle has never intended itself to be historically accurate. It's always incorporated elements of folklore and fantasy, to all of its themes. I think it's fair if people would prefer more male guard heads than females, but it's pretty clear to me the video went further than simply expressing a preference. I honestly don't think this needs to be criticized any more than the trees being black instead of brown. The trees are not historically accurate, and we don't have to define the trees being black by any measure of 'wokeness'.
  19. The classic style knights didn't really have helmets. Only the Dragon Masters had em at the start, and later Fright Knights used the same dragon winged helms, but the original Crusaders and Black Falcons didn't have em. I think it's justified here. The helms for the new horses were still pretty cheap when I bought em a few years back. Looking at Bricklink now, they're about a dollar.
  20. I really want to see what it looks like from the back when it's closed up. Every angle we've seen is from the front. I don't mind the doll-house concept since that's how most Castle sets were back in the day as well, and it does work as both a play feature and a display. I do agree it looks fairly plain though, and I'd definitely consider moc'ing up some details like the Blacksmith's brickwork, incorporating some darker grey pieces to make this really pop out.
  21. Blacksmith is regular $199.99 in Canada, I picked it up on Amazon.ca during their major Black Friday sale for $149.99, a 25% discount. There's usually a lot of lego on sale during these major events, the next being Amazon's Prime Day in mid July. I picked up Flower Fruit Mountain for $149 (reg $240) and Monkie Kid sets are usually sold directly by Lego. I'm not even sure how and why Amazon has Monkie Kid sets. I don't mind it though I prefer the brown trees. I still have the tree from Blacksmith bagged and unbuilt, I could swap that in if need be. I don't think my wife will let me touch the Winnie set for parts :P
  22. I'd love to see an update to Black Knights and Wolfpack since that was the time when I was old enough to appreciate Castle Lego. I'm torn between seeing what they'd do with an updated Wolfpack torso though, since I feel like the wolf emblem is iconic, but also quite tacky for what is supposed to be a ragtag band of bandits and not a uniformed army.
  23. Honestly, I didn't even notice it for most of the guards till you mentioned it and I took a closer look. TBH, even though I'm somewhat of a purist, this doesn't really bother me. Most of those heads can be easily swapped out with whatever I have in my collection, or hidden under a full-case helmet. And this might actually be a good thing for me personally, as I have a daughter now and while I'm getting this set for me, it'll be something I definitely look forward to building and playing with her when she comes of age. I think it's good that Lego isn't just pushing for Friends sets to be for girls, and a set like this having plenty of girl minifig options opens up play for all kids, as this really should be for. As an AFOL, I'd end up customizing the heck out of this anyways, so swapping out heads is something I'd do without even blinking. It's not like any AFOL is going to be lacking for male heads anyways, and this set certainly won't make-or-break that just because half the guards have female heads. I mean even the civilian heads can be swapped in so you could have more male guards and more female civilians.
  24. I guess that's true, no matter what they make the Blacksmith is just too big. Maybe I'll have to find some smaller mocs and downsize the Blacksmith, or just keep it displayed on its own. I did want to make an open Tavern out of this set, maybe it'll split it off onto two smaller buildings.
  25. I do wonder what the size of this is next to the Blacksmith. I feel like the Blacksmith is overly large, and as big as this castle is it'd still look 'small' next to it. I might have to look into raising the base of this castle just to give it some height.
