Latest impact of other themes on historic themes
Triceron replied to Wardancer's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I kinda expected more creature builds here. I knew Mimics and beholders would be popular, but expected an owlbear to make a vote at least. -
Love it! Amazing Tavern build. I really wish Lego would do a Tavern interior set, it'd be a great setting for fantasy adventurers

Latest impact of other themes on historic themes

I think the 'Moon Warrior' CMF we had earlier this year was quite an obvious reference to Night Elves in Warcraft. It does make me wish they made rideable versions of panthers or lions. -

I think what's really interesting is that the Black Falcon CMF is the first real continuation of a Classic Castle. Every other Castle-related CMF we had seemed to be merely homaging the Castle series, but they weren't really tied directly to the original factions like this one is. The Rogue merely had a Wolfpack badge but otherwise isn't really Wolfpack, and we had stuff like the Fright Knight that homaged the Fright Knights but otherwise was a standalone figure and not integrated into the Fright Knights series. Even the recent 'Knight of the Yellow Castle' is a girl pretending to be a Knight, with a toy horse-on-a-stick. Here, we have a direct CMF that isn't just homaging Black Falcons, but is clearly an official Black Falcon character. I'm quite excited about this for the future of Castle tie ins through CMF. I'll just be very skeptical of the blind boxes moving forward. -

I'm definitely happy about both the Black Falcon and Orc. I'll probably only need/want one Black Falcon, while I'd consider getting 3+ of the Orc. Right now I'm using the CMF Cyclops as the brunt of my 'orc' army, and the new torsos would help add some diversity. -

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Triceron replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Castle on 2xVIP day. And right after, I found a great deal on Facebook Mktplce for it + Blacksmith for about $50 (CAD) more. I think I'm gonna grab the used Castle and keep the order boxed for resale later on, Lego doesn't seem to take store returns on orders larger than $250.- 2,976 replies

Some thoughts after YEARS without a castle theme
Triceron replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I honestly think army builder sets would be just as frustrating to hunt down as BAM torsos in their store. There's plenty of niche small sets that I try to keep my eyes open to, and only ever manage to find them in neighbouring cities. Pick A Brick seems to be the better alternative so long as they manage to stay in stock. -
Very awesome! I love the hero dude with the big round shield at the front, he looks like a proper Dwarf lord/king!

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Triceron replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Color me curious on how many people there are here who are actively interested in buying this set, but holding off because of *cough* price *cough* reasons. The Forestmen Hideout GWP still indicates a very high demand for Castle sets to me, I think the lack of sales is literally due to people (like me) who are holding off.- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Triceron replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Do they do sales on the Lego site? Being that this is a Lego exclusive set, I've not really seen any sales on their main website at all (other than clearance section). The most I've seen applied to new releases is the Double VIP events, which is just another 5% discount. I think I'd agree with 20% off, I would consider picking it up at that price.- 2,976 replies

Lego lore is gonna be a huge rabbit hole to go down. It's very messy because back in the 80's-90's, each region localized the names of sets and factions differently, and most came up with their own lore. So the sets I had in Canada would have different names from sets that I purchased in the US, and apparantly that's all different from ones in the UK, and in Germany, etc etc And since each region had their own promotional material like magazines, you'd have different origin stories or comics for different factions and characters.

I'd love to see Lego do their take on the Nazgul's Felbeast. Maybe even in the style of the latest Harry Potter flying creatures. Always felt that was a missed opportunity.

Most of the bricks we need are readily available from many other sets, and we don't need to wait on Castle theme to make a move. Like the peasants cottage moc I made is 80% built from parts from Hagrid's Hut 2019 That's just one of many sets that can be repurposed into Castle themed creations. But I totally agree, we really should have a better source for Castle minifigures and it's been a long-time coming for more different Peasant CMFs. I actually hope it doesn't come with a goat, because it'll be probably hunted down so much that I'd never be able to find one on store shelves.

The modular look of many classic Castle sets is what was so great about em. You had everything from Wizard shops to Drawbridges to large Towers and more. There was a huge spread of carts, outposts and polybag stuff to fill out a village, or moc up into one large set. Like everyone, I do wish they continued making new updated Castle themes. There's so much untapped potential still left to explore. But I guess that's also the beauty of being an AFOL and literally being able to create moc's, or buy non-Castle sets and convert em into whatever we want. We don't really have to wait for Lego to make a move at all, we can already go out of our way and just do it. I'll say, if there's one thing I really want Lego to make, it's a classic fantasy style Adventurer's Tavern. The place where I can display all the CMF adventurer's I've built up over the years and have as a setting for them to all chill between adventures.

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Triceron replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
So based on the instructions flavor text, 'Majisto' mentions: - Wolfkpack Marauders - The Black Knight (going mad after looking at Amber) - Cousin Willa (Fright Knights Witch reference) - Letter with Lord Basil's seal (Another Fright Knights reference) - House of Lionne (Lion Knights) - House of Black Falcon - Pink Heraldry from 'simpler times' (Classic Pink Crown shield) Of the references, the one we know returning in the near future is the Pink Crown Knight in the upcoming CMF 23. And with CMF and Build-a-Mini, we still get a trickle of throwbacks to old factions, like the Rogue CMF with a Wolfpack buckle, the "Fright Knight" CMF, and recently the Build a Mini Wizard and 'Silver Falcon' crests. So there's a very good chance Lego will still pepper more references to Castle through CMF/BAM in the future. As for actual sets, I think they'll do a similar thing to what we've been seeing with Medieval Blacksmith and Lion Knight's Castle, where they reserve bringing back popular factions when the time is right. I don't think this 90th anniversary set will be ushering in a new wave, I very much see this and the Forest Hideouts as one-offs for the 90th anniversary alone. It's very likely going to be quite a long wait (years) before we see any news on Black Knights or Wolfpack sets in the future. I can only imagine they even start considering tackling these themes only after they determine whether the latest Castle sets sell well enough to consider bringing back more.- 2,976 replies

I've been told directly from an employee that this is what they normally would do if you make a return without the GWP. Such happens if anyone opened the GWP before the other items and decide to make a refund, as they do not accept returns of opened product and would have to charge the internal standard pricing. This actually happened to be last december where I bought the Medieval Castle 3-in-1 on a whim and got the Santa's Front Yard GWP, but decided to do a full return of the castle even though I'd already opened the GWP. The employee told me that they normally would have to charge $40 (CAD) for the GWP since it couldn't be returned. Being Christmas time, he was nice enough to 'let it slide' and merely let me keep it. YMMV, but this is direct word from a Lego store employee to my ears. If there is any contrary information to this, I'd like to hear the official clarification for it, otherwise 'threats of bans' doesn't really mean anything to me if this is my understanding of their return policy. They could always refuse a return of product, but I've never personally encountered that with returns of unopened product.
-
Sadly, the best way to deal with FOMO limited promotions like this is to buy first, refund later. You get 90 days to consider keeping your regular purchase, while the GWP you can decide to keep (pay their internal price) or return with the rest. Technically speaking, the set is purchaseable on its own if you hack the system and just refund the lot and pay for the GWP. They give you a gift card with the credit you have from the return.

Custom lego parts is why I really want to get a 3D printer. Unfortunately I don't have the space to keep or use one.

not sure why they branded it as a greatsword. I would have settled with 'Longsword' myself, since that's what it looks like it's meant to represent.- 2,976 replies
