  1. Bonsai Tree is on backorder here in Canada on Lego store, I guess it's a popular item. It's been out for a while so I'm surprised it's even sold out now, I remember seeing it months ago on the shelves and didn't think much about it. Monkie Kid Fruit Mountain is a great set. I was lucky and picked one up on sale on Amazon.ca on Black Friday for $149 CAD (reg $249). Amazon messed up my order tracking, and they ended up sending me two. I still haven't gotten around to opening or building it yet though, I need a lot more space to be able to display that one. The Heavenly Realm set is on my radar, I just wish it came out earlier so I didn't have to get a bunch of random sets for this GWP.
  2. Thanks for the backorder info, that might be a gamechanger for me. I was contemplating on the Bonsai or not (on backorder) for parts to enhance my Forest sets.
  3. It's a Gift with Purchase only for in-store or online purchases of over ~$160 (threshold depending on your location). You won't be able to buy the set directly. They may appear on the after market, but you can expect them to be in high demand.
  4. That's kind of dangerous. I feel like Amazon can only hurt the franchise more than help it. It's gonna be like Star Wars Sequel Trilogy levels of underwhelming.
  5. Half of me wants this, half of me wishes it doesn't happen if only to spare my wallet.
  6. Well if you're looking for a $100-150 castle, the Creator Medieval Castle is still a pretty solid set.
  7. The price would go from $472 CAD -> $602 CAD. And that's just a rough estimate, considering Lego seems to tack on higher prices for customs/storage in Canada. I'm really hoping it isn't that dramatic of a jump. $50 more, and I can swallow the hard pill. $125 more is way too much. That's practically an entire new set!
  8. That's really harsh news.... timing of it couldn't be worse. This castle is literally one of the last big purchases I was planning on purchasing day 1, but looks like I'll have to wait until there's a good deal or promotion. I just have to cross my fingers that they won't make it too limited and have this set be permanent out-of-stock mode.
  9. I never had a formal Forestmen set either, though I have plenty of the minifigs from minifig packs and a couple carts from their 3-in-1 bonus packs. I had a couple Dark Forest sets, which were nice, but nothing classic from the actual Forestmen era. I'm quite excited to get my hands on one of these. Or two. Or three...
  10. Back then movies weren't the only thing influencing the minds of kids. Toys in general had a very strong fantasy vibe to them whether we're talking about He-man and Thundercats or the plastic swords and shields and helmets that kids could get in a toy store. That's generally what I'm talking about. Today, a lot of kids aren't growing up with the same toys that we did back in the 70's and 80's. Anecdotally speaking, I'd say Superheroes have replaced the fantasy of Knights and Dragons in today's kids culture. The concept of fighting Dragons will never grow old or get replaced, but I think today kids don't really distinguish that as being any different from 'Monsters' that any super heroes fight. Medieval settings are much less ever-present in general, with most of those settings now being completely oriented towards Teen+ to Adults. I mean, today the closest thing kids relate to swords and fantasy are probably through games like Minecraft. I doubt they're getting much exposure to Knights and Castles since GoT is well out of their reach, and there's practically zero kid-oriented medieval fantasy shows nowadays. I think it would mostly be indirectly through whatever exposure they get through parents who enjoy Castle/Medieval settings.
  11. Lego Castle was built off of the classic myths of King Arthur, Robin Hood and the like, which was fairly prominent in 70's and 80's. Today, we still have popular Fantasy series, but it's far more niche since Superheroes have become the new big craze. And as I've said before, Ninjago pretty much covers the rest of what Lego considers to be kid-friendly appeal. Vehicles, Dragons, Monsters, Ninjas, Superheroes. It's all there in that one theme. The market for Lego castle is primarily coming from AFOLs. You said it - 3 Large Sets and a GWP for $160. I'd say the Creator Medieval Castle is the only real kid-oriented set of the bunch, and even then AFOLs are talking about purchasing 2-3 of the set to build bigger castles. The Blacksmith and Lion Castle are very likely primarily purchased by AFOLs. HP appeals to kids and adults because even if the kids aren't growing up around HP in theatres, they will be getting exposure to it by their adult parents who will share their passion with their kids. That's why Harry Potter is still relevant today even for new kids. Same can be said of most Superhero genre films, which are aimed at adults but also have kid appeal to them because of the parents taking them to enjoy the movies. As for how Castles age overall, it's really up to Lego to decide that. I'd be all for it, I just don't think TLG sees it the same way. To be frank, I personally see Castles, Pirates and Space to be timeless themes that could have been carried on from the 80's into forever. I'm not sure when or why they decided to branch out to stuff like Hidden Side and Vidyo as their mainstay products, but that's Lego for you. I'm just happy we're getting anything Castle related for a full release. Blacksmith certainly opened their eyes that at the very least there is a significant AFOL demand for it.
  12. Lego branches out to draw in kids, but not with 80's/90's style Castle any more. That's why Nexo Knights existed. And yes, Nexo Knights had blister packs to army build. That is what Lego considers branching for kids. I'd say it's a mix of different things - Castles and Knights is not as ever-present in modern pop culture as it used to be. Modern day Castle is mostly replaced by Ninjago and Harry Potter, which cover most of what kids want out of an action series or a fantasy series. And arguably, Harry Potter doubles in appealing to AFOL collectors as well. I can't say really say that Lego bringing back the 80's and 90's classics in battle packs would really appeal to kids at all. Lego would be the one who has the data on that. I mean at a sentimental level, I completely agree that they went strong with other Castle themes over the years, but I think they have a very different view of what kids like today than they did back then. I personally think that they see themes like Ninjago being their answer to Action-Fantasy niche that Castle used to occupy. Ninjago's still going strong too.
  13. Those bullet helms are very sturdy plastic. Same with the open cone shaped ones with the nose guard. I bought a bunch of open cone helms which used a lighter blue plastic, and the quality was very poor. Easily flexible if you put any pressure on it. One of them even got bent/crushed in the mail. That would never happen with the classic 80's-90's helmets.
  14. I completely agree, having the option would always be better than not. I just don't know if Lego has always released Battle Packs in the interest of selling to kids, while this is almost certainly an AFOL specific thing. For Star Wars I totally get, since it has both AFOL and Kid appeal, but Castle battle packs would be very niche if they didn't bring out an entire kid-oriented Castle series to go with. I do feel like BAM and B&P are our best alternatives. I'm not sure if it's standard policy, but the Lego store employee told me that you could mix and match any accessories up to 15 pieces total for BAM, so I could technically get 15 'White Falcon' torsos or 7 torsos 7 legs and build up an army that way for a decent price. Heads are super easy to get, and the rest would just be figuring hair or helmet options, which should be obtainable through B&P.
  15. I still feel like if they do battle packs, the best way would probably keep them Lego Store and online exclusives. I can't see there being a wide market for them outside of AFOLs like us, and even then it's a niche within a niche. I am primarily a Forestmen/Black Knights -> Fright Knight era Castle fan. It's not like Castle has been really under any unified branch; they've reinvented the concept time and time again over the years. So if they do a Castle Battle Pack today, what would it be? Because the Kingdom+ era is completely off my radar, yet I'm sure there are people who would want more Kingdom sets brought back as well. And I don't think it would be in Lego's interest to start pushing out battle packs of every faction; it's been long and hard enough to get a classic Castle and we had to wait for a major anniversary for it. I only ever had a handful of loose Crusaders in my old collection, and only doubled it recently through Bricklink/Marketplace purchases. I'm totally getting the new big caste, but I'm not even sure if I'd go out of my way to get Battle Packs if they started releasing them, since Crusaders were never a big part of my original collections. Having a big castle in the style of the old ones that I missed out on is what really appeals to me. Battle packs though, not so much, because I was never really focused on building a massive Crusader army even though I had a few in my original collection. I think as long as Lego provides an avenue to get more figures, like CMF, BAP or BAM, I think it would be fine. I really don't think that kids are gravitating to this theme at all, even if it's getting quite a resurgence. It's literally playing on nostalgia for AFOLs like us.
  16. I feel like CMF has mostly replaced any intention for them to make Castle Battle Packs. Almost every CMF main series has at least one Castle or Fantasy related figure in it, with the latest series having 3-4 Fantasy characters. And people seem quite eager to collect multiples of characters. I think there is a CMF Series rumored to be themed around the 90th anniversary releasing near the end of the year. I can see those being very hot sellers if so. Hoping to see even more Castle throwbacks there.
  17. The Botanical Succulent uses the forestmen hat piece, so it might be possible to get through B&P.
  18. It's the 90th anniversary "Lion King's Castle" set people have been talking about. Promobricks revealed the minifigs and it will have a Queen figure, but no King, leading to people to speculate a name change to something like 'Lion Queen's Castle'.
  19. Not quire sure this is an official image. Doesn't BriqFoundation usually do his own custom Lego mockups for promotionals that haven't been released yet?
  20. I love the look of this. I'm super torn now because I realize it's gonna be a $200 GWP in Canada, and there's literally nothing I want till August >_<. Anyone have any workaround tips? Do they do tradeins or returns of unopened sets for future releases? Also kinda curious that it hasn't been officially announced yet, with June literally being around the corner, and this being dated for the 15th, 3 days before Lego Con. Wouldn't it make more sense if they planned it for after or on Lego Con for a 'surprise' announcement?
  21. I'm reaalllly hoping they push this back closer to August. I know they're doing this on purpose as a promotional, but there's no big must-have releases in June. All of the good suff is in August!
  22. Argh.. This will be very tricky because I really want that GWP, but there is nothing being released around June here for it. Monkie Kid Heaven set is also listed August 1st here. Hopefully the GWP promotion will be pushed to August for Canada. I think we get ours later anyways.
  23. I am very scared the GWP will sell out before the Castle even comes out for preorder >_<
  24. I'm actually pretty happy they're sticking with classic style. Not disappointed at all, as it will fit nicely with my classic sets. 20 minifgures is great, I'm very happy. All my current Lion Knights don't have a castle, and this is very exciting news with all the new stuff planned like shields and weapons. Can't wait to see some official pictures. I'm wondering when they will officially announce this.
  25. I'd die for a proper Grizzly Bear (with mouth and head articulation, like the LOTR Wargs) or Werebear minifigure. I'd love to have an army of Grizzly Druids!
