Lego Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square Discussion Thread
Triceron replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'd like some more Forestmen sets as well, if not just for some alternative torsos like they used to have. That's what made them extra special back in the day. I can definitely see them do Wolfpack Tower remake. Heck, I can see them going out of their way to bringing back some iconic Black Knights castles too. -
Stickers is a big no for me. I skipped the Blacktron cruiser for that very reason, and Blacktron Renegade was the first set I ever owned as a kid.

VIKING VILLAGE Ideas set via Target vote

Some of the printed bricks, and little things like the runes printed on the hammer, or the shields with runes on them, and the general architecture details. I'll probably look up some different mocs and see what I can do. If anything, this set gives me an excuse to get the Majisto GWP. -

I mean I agree it's healthy to be skeptical. I just don't think the leak is going to be deviated from very much, considering how much is packed into it. It falls in line with a lot of things that one would expect from a 'Medieval Market Village' remake. It's got the basic structure down - Two large buildings, a standalone tree, a bunch of civilians, a bunch of animals, some small market stalls, and some patrolling knights. But then it also has a lot of tie ins to the LKC, like the tower and flag colors, or the fact that one of the buildings resembles a completely revamped Guarded Inn, which was also part of the Classic Castle line. And it also contains elements that we're seeing now released in 2023, like the new fern piece that is now used in the Rivendell set. I'll just say I don't see the point of going into that much detail into mocking up a set, down to including new pieces that hadn't been seen before like the Fern piece, for a survey that is meant to gauge what people would pay for a set like that. I could see there being differences in being a preliminary design, but I can't see it being at an early prototype/mockup stage, if they're using pics for the purpose of surveying price points. Like, I would imagine the leaked survey was being handled by their Marketting team for sets that are pretty much locked down and approved, practically ready for sale. If the picture doesn't look like the final product, then the price point data is going to be very skewed. -

Oh wow, that's very tasty information. Exactly what I needed to start off my long weekend :D $300 CAD price point, that's pretty much what I expected it to be. Always wished it to be cheaper, but I'm happy it's not super-inflated price because of the goat. Based on the leaks, it looks like it could be 5 buildings. One is a small standalone house, and then two sets of buildings that look like they could be hinged and collapsable back-to-back, making them like large housing blocks. I figure they are facade/dollhouse style. And I'm still super curious if this actually connects to the extra clip in the Lion Knight's Castle. -

I'm contemplating having the set be a Germanic Barbarian/Berserker faction for Castle. The wooden structures and the torsos and helmets could definitely be used for that, and I could always swap out the water for some grassy plains terrain. But I'm still hesitant since there's a lot of things that are way specific to Vikings. So from that point of view, I'm kind of happy it doesn't come with a ship and has more focus on the buildings and terrain and modularity instead. -

Brickclicker went over a TLG confidentiality report recently where they talked about leaks in 2023. They addressed the Feb survey leak as the 'elephant in the room' "For leak this drastic, many security points went wrong, but the individual source was identified!" So it sounds like they never planned on this actually happening, and based on their reactions (taking down any and all leak images online) it doesn't really sound like they were using very loose mock-ups. And as far as we know, the survey was targetted around figuring price points for the sets, rather than the actual interest and marketability for it. It sounded like these were all planned to be released at some point, and TLG just wanted to figure out what price points people would be expecting them, probably especially after the inflation/markup that we had last August. -

I'm wary on any of those alternate mocs because I don't know how they match up to the LKC or minifigure scale. Some of the ones I've seen with decent sizes also have weird proportions like smaller doors which a minifig might not actually be able to enter in, or be able to fit inside. -

I think the colors might be set. I agree they're kinda janky, but I can see them rolling with it as a companion set to the Medieval Market Village. -

The style of the tower and the flag colors they use makes it look like it could have some connectivity to the LKC. I could see them tying in Lion Knights as well, though I am also hoping for some variants, especially for the size and price of the set. -

We've already have blurred images of the set from the feb survey leak, kinda confused why we're talking as though we haven't seen it. I don't think it's gonna look vastly different from the leak. -

The missing Classic Castle bunch would be great, everything up to Fright Knights for me. On top of the ones mentioned, I'd love to see them revisit Monster Fighters and Galaxy Squad. These are two that were released during my dark ages, and they're really interesting themes that I missed out on. Also I recently came across a bunch of Heroica sets. I kind of wish they did more with this, it seems like it has a lot of potential for expanding on fantasy as a buildable board game, especially with all the micro builds they make now. -
Most likely all Lego, just like Forest Hideout. What theme would it be attached to otherwise?

Did the Nexo Knights shields have some sort of functionality? Why are there so many of them?

What I think could be interesting is if they revisited some of these old themes in the same cameo style as they did with bringing Clutch Powers into Ninjago, or how the Lego Movie brought back a bunch of remixed old themes like Benny's Spaceship or Metalbeard's ship. Dreamzzz could be an open book for that, like having a season deal with the Nightmare King bringing back classic characters like Vladek, Basil the Bat lord, Ogel etc in Dream Villain form. And they could get mini sets that fit their former themes, with some new modern day emblems for the sake of nostalgia. I'm not sure why they don't do more crossover, really.

Agreed, but I can also see Black Falcon's point because something like Castle theme is only really relevant to adult fans right now, much like bringing back Classic Pirates or Classic Space. If anything is being marketted directly to kids, I'd imagine TLG would want to pick something that is absolutely markettable as a potential series. Like even Jurrasic World has a Lego TV show to tie things in. That being said, they might still profit well, but only in limited supply directed at AFOLs, and it's still quite a gamble. It made sense for Castle's return because Lion Knights, Black Falcons and Forestmen were all part of the highest polled returning themes for the 90th anniversary poll. I doubt Royal Knights and Fright Knights has that same clout (even if I'm a big fan of both). I expect them to do more tangentially, and add in more classic Castle characters through CMF just like they did for the Black Falcon and Fright Knight.

Yeah, I couldn't even see this happening in limited release, or even as GWP.

Anyone have any idea if the LOTR weapons sprue might get released on PAB? I noticed that on first release, the weapon sprues for the new Monkey Kid sets weren't available, but they put em up for sale on PAB over time. Not quite sure if they're planning on doing that for something like the LOTR weapons. I'd love to get my hands on Narsil without having to shell out $600+ CAD for it. That's actually a cool idea. I could see them doing it in sections and eventually you can combine a bunch of different sets to create a full map of Middle Earth. Like a hobbit hole to represent the Shire, the great hall for Rohan, etc.
-
They were still cheaper than picking all the parts separately on Pick a Brick. The cheapest option is if you are lucky enough to find shields and armor pieces on Build a Mini and your local store allows you to buy in bulk. Otherwise just the shields alone on PAB are $1+ each. I managed to snag a bunch of Fright Knight CMF shields for $.75 CAD each on bricklink when they were still new and available, but I'm sure that price has been marked up since.

Well it's not unreasonable. A 6 month window for a re-release of a popular Classic themed GWP would still work. Blacktron Cruiser GWP came out in January 1-14, then returned 6 months later for July 11-15. Even if it wasn't matching any particular Space themed sets for its return, it did come back around the Eldorado Fortress release. -

Rumors are hinting at an April 2024 release, which is why I made that comment.
