  1. Same. Before long you'd have whole mocs full of chima figures. It's a slippery slope folks Unless the moderators/faction leaders have already made a rule on this issue, maybe a poll would be a good idea?
  2. Broadside's Brig (6259) features a design without the jail pieces. However, its not a very good design in my experience.
  3. I think storybook is a good idea. Not fantasy in the over the top magic and races sense that modern and high fantasy have, but I do like sea monsters, mermaids, ghost ships. Like Kolonialbeamter, I think PotC is a good benchmark, since they explored traditional pirate lore without going too overboard. Not a fan of Davy Jones and his crustacean crew though. We have had some sea monsters here, if I recall correctly. Which is perfectly fine, imo.
  4. Can someone tell me what color the Admiral's lapels are? I'm colorblind and I can never quite seem to get a handle on em.
  5. Thanks for the review. I'm planning on modding the cannon set up because I like the rest of this ship.
  6. The myth is also accentuated by the fact that Napoleon surrounded himself with grenadiers, the tallest men in his army. As I said before this is a really wonderful moc, and I love recreations of paintings. If I had one critique, it's that Napoleon was famous for dressing more simply than his generals, much closer to the uniform of his men.
  7. The color of the BBB might be nicer, but the much better stern and rigging seal the deal in TBB's favor as far as I'm concerned.
  8. I think its supposed to be some kind of head statue.
  9. It looks good so far! Ive been interested in trying to make a star fort for a while, but never could seem to come up with a satisfactory method myself. I'll be watching this thread with interest, haha.
  10. Since the issue of brick vs LDD and what constitutes "real bricks" is coming up, what about main entries featuring non-lego parts? A lot of ships in this forum include complicated non-lego rigging and sails. Does GoH have rules about this? I dont particularly care either way but, since the discussion was in the neighborhood, I thought I'd bring it up.
  11. Great build! You should post this in the Pirates subforum as well. There are several other "Napoleonic" builders there that would appreciate this.
  12. Because AFOLs get worked up over everything.
  13. Lovely! I dont think it would be difficult to add Tiger Lily as well.
  14. Ah that's a shame. Still, thanks for taking the time to share this with us.
  15. I'd been thinking about doing one of these castles for a while, but I had no idea where to start. This is really amazing, and is inspiring me to give it a crack. Really just top notch stuff. Any chance you could give us a closer shot of the courtyard and (if there is one) the interior?
  16. actually, if you open the product descriptions in the catalog, you can get hi-res images of each of the boxes. I havent been on in a while, do we have those here yet?
  17. all of this. I didnt have any ships when i was younger, and now I keep trying to nab a reasonably priced imperial flagship. I think its one of the best proportioned ships lego's ever released.
  18. I'm with The _Cook on this. Even if nothing "comes of it", I think it's a nice community building activity. When we were focused on it rather than the new sets, there was a lot of involvement and discussion that we don't normally see around here.
  19. Thanks Lomis! The new fort doesnt look that bad in the comparison, but there is a glaring lack of baseplates. Unfortunately, I don't consider either model to be particularly substantial so I'm still disappointed. Also, the old soldiers fort was $40, which I believe only one part of the new fort is, correct?
  20. As I said earlier, commissioned officers in most armies and navies of this period would have had gold or silver epaulettes. This man is likely an officer, but one below lieutenant. Sergeant or corporal I'd guess.
  21. Huh, didnt realize that. Thanks for the info gedren! But I agree, the new coins and a bar would be a very good replacement for the coins and sprue. Im just hoping we get them and not those horrid tiles. Personally, the new sets didnt live up to my hopes, but Im still very excited. The torso prints look great. Cant wait to pick up a few of those new officer torsos. I'll be getting the fort and outpost for sure, just for the figs if nothing else, and probably the Brick Bounty as well. I never got a ship when I was younger and only got the IFS from the 2009 line and am definitely in the market for a pirate ship. Although Im a bit disappointed by the regular red over dark red, I like the stern on this better than the BBB. Also, it might just be me, but it looks like theres more space between the masts in this set. Seems a bit roomier.
  22. My gold coins from 1997 are still fully chromed, but my chrome swords and breastplates from the same era arent faring quite as well.
  23. I dont know that she'll be left vague. The "good" female figs in the 2009 line were identified as the Admiral and Governor's daughters, right? Regardless, I'd prefer if she just had a name and left the rest to imagination, like you said. Having her as a fighting fig is a step in the right direction for Lego, and having her relevance not be tied to one of the male figs would be another step.
  24. I think she's likely a civilian hero seeing as her outfit doesnt match the soldiers. Also, the idea that feminism is a modern idea is a very eurocentric perspective that ignores the efforts of women around the globe. On topic: He looks like an NCO. In most period armies/navies, gold epaulettes were reserved for officers ranked Lieutenant and above.
  25. It looks like the hull on the Brick Bounty is narrower than the ones we currently have. Is anyone else getting that impression, or am I just dumb? I'd really been hoping for some smaller hull pieces, so it might just be wishful thinking too.
