  1. I was referring mostly to the disguised women (of which there were more than a few), as I think it wouldn't make any real difference when translated to a children's toy. That being said, I have read accounts of women serving "openly". One that comes to mind is a woman who was in the royal navy, started out disguised as a man and was found out. But she was good at her job, so her superiors let her stay. Plenty of women also lived openly on naval ships of the era. They weren't soldiers but they did take part in combat.
  2. Heaven forbid our technicolor pirate building toys become historically inaccurate. ps. if she was a soldier rather than an officer, that would actually be completely historically accurate.
  3. These are great! Quick question: shouldnt these have back printing? Or should we worry about that after we choose a design?
  4. I'm not a member of GoH (I just look at most of the MOCs and I saw this) so I understand if my input isnt welcome, but I wanted to mention that some of the other subforums (like pirates) use different banners depending on the time of day. Would you guys be open to something like that? That would allow each guild to have its own banner, removing the difficulty of finding one background or image to represent a pretty diverse world.
  5. Damn. The rest of us might as well give up; you've won. In all seriousness though this is spectacular.
  6. I agree that the tree actually looks pretty good. And yeah, I'd actually like a small ship to mix in with my big ones. But I was hoping for larger land based models so bummer.
  7. I mean hey, its worth a shot. And if it works, you'll go down as a trailblazer, haha. Let us know what happens!
  8. Wow, really nice! That being said, I don't know how many University of Petrea credits you'll be able to claim in the pirate subforum.
  9. Wow, the new models are fantastic! The changes really did make all the difference. I particularly like the new harbormaster.
  10. Love the classic feel here. It also feel pretty realistic. On top of that, it makes sense for the wolfpack to have a very utilitarian castle.
  11. Maybe Orange? Or is that a bit too obvious?
  12. A lovely scene! I like the spikes coming from the barricade and the use of the powder horn. Not to detract from your MOC, but shakos weren't used during the Revolutionary War. The shako was introduced to the British Army around 1800 I believe. They were still using tricornes up to that point.
  13. This is basically why I voted for crossed cannons as my third choice. The continuity is nice, but I'd like for the cannons to be more LEGO-ish than the novel design. Ideally, the LEGO group would create a unique take on the crossed cannons that still looked like the piece we have.
  14. Thanks for posting these! I'd never seen any of this before.
  15. Do you mean Black Sails? Personally, I liked the series a lot. Its not nonstop action, and I know some people got annoyed because it had a few slow episodes in a row here and there, but I thought the pacing made a lot of sense. It spends more time on planning and day to day issues rather than battle (though they have that too). Plus, its already been renewed for a second season.
  16. Disappointed by the horns on the Hun helmet. They can probably come off, but I'd still rather not have the holes on the sides. Great series otherwise though. My sister is excited for the spooky girl, haha.
  17. Thanks Bob, the app looks and works great! Mister Phes, how are we planning on implementing this as a vote? Are you going to open up a vote thread where everyone just posts images of their favorite pair? Or is the app just an opportunity to play around so people can then come click radio buttons like a regular poll (with options like [1-1|2-5], [1-2|2-5], etc)?
  18. Incredibly cool! You should post this in the historical forum. I saw something coming because it was in the technic forum, but they wont have any idea.
  19. This is quite clever. My one criticism is that the front paws seem too large. They're very nice and articulated, but it looks a bit comical. Still, a very impressive build!
  20. I agree that 2 questions would work better, and I think most people are on board for the merchants symbol. My remaining question is, if we go with a pattern that can be inverted (saltires, beach towel), when would we decide whether or not people want inversions, and if so, which one should be for the merchants and which should be for the guard? In a separate poll afterward?
  21. In that case, you should check out the Pirates subforum (if you haven't already)! The builders over there focus on pretty much everything from the 1600s to the mid 1800s.
  22. Between the Pirates, PotC, and CMFc lines, you still can.
  23. Really like this! Has a classic lego vibe, but polished up in MOC style. Particularly liked the railings on the quarterdeck.
