LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
2maxwell replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Honestly, I do think this community can be a bit out of touch. These are toys for kids, so it seems obvious to me that there would be a lot of re-releases. Something released 5 years ago hasn't even been seen by the majority of kids playing with legos in 2020. Something as popular as the Jedi starfighter needs to be on store shelves every year. I get that it's Anakin every time and I'd love to get my hands on Kit Fisto or someone in a cheaper set, but most kids want Anakin. You don't like TROS? That's fine, but it's also the latest movie so it's obviously going to get the new sets, because that's the one that Lego's core audience has actually seen most recently. Everyone's wants are valid of course, and I get the frustration of not seeing the sets we think are obvious winners year after year. But we also have to remember that the Lego company exists as a business, and we as adult fans still make up a pretty small proportion of their audience. They're trying to make a little bit of everything for everyone, and part of that means continually re-releasing certain sets. There's no need to be insulted. In fact, I've seen a lot of AFOLs request that the Lego company make more vehicles that havent been made yet, and many have asked for the Night Buzzard, so clearly they are trying to appease that segment of the audience too. It just didn't happen to be the one you wanted this time. -

Oh yeah, completely on board with you that the new design is terrible in a lot of ways. I'm going to get the AAT but I may end up hocking the clone trooper on Ebay or something. I'm going to be really frustrated if this design is the new standard going forward because I had just invested in some clones from the 2016 variety, which I personally think at the best they've done so far. I also was looking and the Night Buzzard looks awfully small. I can't imagine figures standing in there. -

Everyone is expecting the second battle droid to have seating space in the center of that AAT right? It looks like there are hinges there to open up. If that's the case, I'm glad they gave two pilot droids. -

The AAT is pretty much exactly what I wanted. Looks about the size of the 2015 set which is perfect for me, as I'd rather have something a bit too small than something too large. I also needed an Ahsoka figure as the non-CW version is way too expensive on BL. I don't really care about the clone trooper though. It doesn't fit with the rest of my clones. -

Some of the insta posts are saying we might get more leaks from the wave in the next few days. I'm hoping that's true; I'd love to see pictures of the AAT finally. -

Nice. This pretty much ensures that it will be on the smaller side, which is perfect for me. The old blue one was so large and not at all what I wanted. -

Thankfully I never cared about the 501st so I don't need to pick this up. I do find it weird that they went with white arms though. I feel like it throws off the whole color balance on special units to give them white arms. I do find the groaning about MandR to be funny though. Oh no, one of biggest and most successful toy brands gave in to the whims of a youtuber, whatever will we do! Lego will keep making whatever they think will make them money. If you dislike fan campaigns or think the kinds of people who make them are entitled, just avoid those parts of the community. -

Like most everyone else, I think the stormtrooper looks off. But w/e, these were never going to be for me. I'm mostly just into playsets. -

That symbol is a generic recon emblem? I thought it was unique to the 91st. I wish the people who worked on designing units for the GAR had put together a style guide that actually made sense instead of just making up units and symbols as they went based on whatever they thought looked cool. -

Wasn't there something about "complete the fleet" with regards to UCS? I don't know where that came from but, if it was Lego, A-wing makes a lot of sense. -

My guess is the portion between the engines. Looking at those pictures, that space has a height of 3-4 bricks, which would be enough space for a flat, horizontal escape pod build. -

They do better interiors for campers from the City sets. The outside looks good, but that interior looks very sparse. -

It's probably best to assume that none of the figs you're hoping for will be produced and then be pleasantly surprised instead of the other way around. -

Knight, Viking, and probably Pirate girl are insta-buys for me. I dislike how often they use the great helm for their knights though. I have too many of those now. -

Don't worry, I didn't think you were being super negative or anything. I was just surprised because I guess, over all these years, Star Wars sets have never really struck me "plain, gray, and boxy". Was kind of just surprised to hear that might be a common opinion. -

Is this really a thing? I've been buying lego star wars sets since the first wave back in 1999 and I wouldnt describe many of them that way. Most were gray, some were certainly ugly, and I guess many of the AT line were boxy, but I didn't realize that was a reputation among star wars sets. -

If you expect MOC quality from this set, you should expect to pay MOC prices. It's not a surprise that MOC builders can make more aesthetically pleasing sets; they don't have to worry about things like cost, playability, and stability. If you can't come to terms with that, just build your own MOCs instead of buying official sets. -

It's not a very good set, but we do sort of have that in the form of 7186 Watto's Junkyard. In a larger sense, you have to think about what sells well. I don't have the data in front on me, but the company's behavior suggests that its vehicles and famous vignettes that sell well. That's why we get so many sets for Naboo Starfighters, AATs, MTTs, podracers, Sith infiltrators, STAPs, duels with Maul, and even a few Gungan subs. That you think podracing is obscure suggests how far outside of the norm you are. For most kids that grew up with the PT, podracing is one of the most iconic parts of the entire trilogy. Everyone played the old podracing game on N64 or PC. The simple reality is that the Lego group has made the decision that most of whats on your list wouldn't sell well outside of potentially architecture or UCS lines. There are obviously some ideas in there that I think *would* sell well and I'm sure we'll see them eventually. I expect we'll see another Gungan battle scene of some kind with Kaadu and maybe a Fambaa. The best one I think is the royal Naboo starship, though that one I believe has always been avoided because of the difficulty in recreating a fully chromed ship, especially as Lego has stepped away from chroming in general. They'll do it one way or another eventually I'm sure, and I'm sure it will include a Padme in her gown. -

It kind of makes sense. When the movies are out, there are plenty of more conventional toys like action figures available. When the movies arent out, Lego becomes a go to for kids into Star Wars. -

Its a children's tv show in its final season (coming back on the air after 6 years by the way). Most people are going to care more about getting main characters while they can rather than random clones. They'll probably release a battle pack at some point to satisfy the people who want special clones/units. -

Same. I'm at the point now where I'm ok getting the sets I want (like the theorized AAT) and just selling any figs I'm not fond of, but I'd much rather they all fit in with my existing collection. Being able to get an Ahsoka with a regular face for less than ~$60 off Bricklink would be great. -

Have there been any leaks regarding whether we're going back to cartoon style faces? The last 4 sets to be produced that Bricklink categorizes as being "Clone Wars" sets all feature the standard lego faces, as do all the sets produced for Rebels and Resistance. However, those were all released in the years when the Clone Wars was off the air. -

There is very little I dislike as much as constantly having mismatched figs. It's why I had to restart my collection after lego switched to flesh colors, and it's why I avoid all sets with Clone Wars figs or change out heads. I'm also constantly on the lookout for the new clone trooper legs on BL since I don't like some of them having printing on the legs and some not having it. -

Both the Eta-2s and the Delta-7s are interceptors. Or is this a lego designation difference I've never noticed? -

Where did we get confirmation of Anakin's starfighter? Maybe it will be another Eta-2 instead of a Delta-7. I prefer the Delta-7s and just bought the one currently on the market, so I think I'm good for now.
