I purchase my own 10497, but this design is not mine. BTW, I post a video link of my latest project Gaia 72 yesterday and someone delete it. WHY?

Good point. That's why I didn't post the ones I found of 10497 before the preview of the 4th of july. Lego has been this way since the late 70s when a group of employees resigned and went to work for Tente.

Or they don't believe is real. Last year I found a picture of LEGO 40567 Forestmen Forest Hideout on may 21 in a website and upload it here. It was taken down by an administrator the next day on the believe chinese sites rarely display official Lego sets. The image turned out to be real and the set was released officially on June 15. 3 weeks prior!

Any pictures yet of the new space sets?

"That would be very fitting for a Futuron set but I got inspired by the Seatron monorail prototype set. It included a white Futuron spaceship with a red canopy and red Futuron minifig. Maybe if Futuron would have continued after 1990 we would have had canopies in different colors just like classic space had? That's why I went with a green minifig and a green canopy. I agree that white and trans dark blue is the best color combination for Futuron." I see, good job!

I love the GITS look of this diorama. I can almost hear the song "Making of Cyborg" while looking at these images.

The back compartment it's a cool adition. I suggest you loook up for 2620 and 2507 in trans dark blue to make this even more awesome. Both pieces exist in that futuron color.

I sent some e-mails to Lego group during the pandemic, asking for the return of Classic Space. I hope this is the answer to those messages.
-
Actually, in the back of the box of the original Galaxy Explorer you can see a pair of Aliens/robots in one of the alternative builds.

My point. Nobady knew the answer to those questions. It was up to your imagination to anwser them. Those were some of the questions I had when I played with Lego back in the 80s.

amazing!

One of the best things that Cassic Space had and differs from new Lego themes was they had no official backstory, roles, or missions. Lego left everything open for the imagination to go wild. Some of the big questions I always had back in the 80s about Classic Space, besides the color astronauts where: When they are going to release the grey astronaut or the green one? The light gray/black/trans-green ships were a different faction from the blue/light gray/trans-yellows or the whith/black/trans blue ones? What was the deal with the yellow astronaut "twins"? there were at least 3 vehicle sets displaying them, The names in the boxes really tell you the purpose of the set? Because some names made no sense at all. Why there were no aliens?

Hello, this is my latest Classic Space project, enjoy. You still love Classic Space, but you want more than just remakes of Classic Space sets? You want something new, fresh, never seen before? Here´s your opportunity to promote new futuristic designs for space sets. GAIA-72 TERRAFORMING STATION, is a dome base fully enclosed with everything the space explorers need to survive extraterrestrial environments. Its composed of a 1200 piece dome base (roughly the same amount of pieces of 10497) and a 1100 piece launch port. A perfect addition to any Classic Space collection. If you like it, give it your support and let's hope we can have this on store shelves soon.

Galaxy Explorer 10497 is a great set, but...

A problem with modern Lego designs is you have to sacrifice stability to get new "looks". I would love to have at least a new trans yellow piece in this awesome set.- 10 replies

Let's stablish something before I start typing. I love 10497 and I think it pays homage to the 1979 version. So I'm not saying it was bad, but it could be epic. Here are some highlights to prove my point. 1.- Too many G.E. redesign MOCs. I´ve seen maybe a hundred Galaxy Explorer remakes in the last 5 years, but I saw one in particular reviewed in a youtube channel, before they released the 10497, which had almost the same features and even had retractable landing gear. So for me the 10497 is the perfect Galaxy Explorer MOC. But was something we been seeing for years. 2.- "Too small" remake. 1245 pieces is a lot of pieces for a set, but, if you compare that amount of pieces with 10305 Lion´s Knight castle's 4514 pieces castle "remake", it feels short. Imagine what the designer would be capable of if he had those 3250+ pieces to work with? 3.- Landing pad and base. The achiles heel of 10497. The ship design is magnificent, However, even the designer of the set stated that he had to leave out the base and landing pad. A true shame. 500 more pieces and two 48 x 48 baseplates would made a world of diference. 4.- New trans yellow pieces. We already had a large 13252 trans yellow windscreen from 70816 Bennys spaceship..... also all the other trans yellow pieces in the set had been released previously. Something Classic Space fans are always looking for are new elements in trans yellow color, since is rare Lego Group uses them in sets and even more rare realeases new ones. Let's be honest here, wouldn't you like the set even better if there were 1x4x3 panels or a large curved windscreen never before released in trans yellow? 5.- Shock and Awe factor. The helper droid was a great add on and the best option they had since benny already used the other type of 80s droid. The rocket sleds were a shock and awe add on to the original ship. So I have nothing against those new features, but it could be even more features in it. Ever felt butterflies when entering the toy isle at your local walmart or Kmart back in the 80s the first weeks of january? You didn't knew what to expect form the new Classic Space sets back in the good old days. New features, new designs, new pieces.... That's the problem with the 10497, you already had a prelimilar idea of what to expect and that was the main problem with 10497, I feel the base had more potential to include new features than the spaceship itself: Retractable dome roof landing pad, modular base, maintenance machinery, loading-unloading crane, new color astronaut, minifig, a small blacktron spy vehicle, I can go on. Bottom line, 10497 is a great Lego set, but knowing what Lego designers are capable of creating, it could be even more awesome.

This looks like the portrait of an anime series. Great job!

What classic spaceship should be the next Icons throwback set?
Operacion Saturno replied to danth's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
If you are refering to the one you can build with pieces left from the One man space ship, yes, it´s magnificent and a great idea I'll try to replicate. I also saw you posted Giorgio´s Hangar 21. That one would be a great add on for the G. Exp. That would be a great idea. To have an independent base which could be used by the G. Explorer. Yes, I would buy it definetly. -
A great add on. I like the fact that you were able to pull this one with leftovers form the smallest ship instructions. Meaning that we would not need to buy a forth G. Explorer.
