42128 - Heavy-Duty Tow Truck
1974 replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanx for the link, that was a rabbithole These trucks are much more about recovery than towing. The crane boom (the "rotator" as they call it) must be very sturdy and wellmade to withstand all that abuse Fascinating vehicles! -
In the same vein, one shouldn't be too quick to defend TLG's corporate doublespeak Jens Kronvold Frederiksen was recently asked on BS why R2-D2 doesn't have back printing : "The equipment necessary to decorate both sides of that cylinder piece is not available at the moment. Honestly, I am not certain why this has not really been considered before because other characters are printed on both sides" Lol! do you want me to believe TLG cannot print on both sides of a simple cylinder when they have been doing it for decades with torsos? And that it has never been thought of? No, it's because TLG will not to do it, not that they can't Edit : And maybe think about re-designing the droid body with a single stud on top so the head can rotate and make that third leg to pop in. Can't be that hard But first, please fix the wonky printing on the dome heads!

What is the REAL cost of new molds in 2021?
1974 replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It's not the moulds, it's the whole concept of re-issuing sets from a bygone era (no, the Deathstar and Taj Mahal are not from that era). TLG do not want to do that, sure there are nods to CS and CC from time to time but we are not going to see a 497 or a 6074 ever again. TLG tried that when they could with the proper moulds and colours (almost, the blue Fury was re-re'ed in bley!) and those didn't sell well enough I'm sure the'll be something like a Cafe Corner again, perhaps even a sort of monorail, but it won't be straight up re-issues The "quater of a million dollars mould" was the very complex dice from the games Cheers, Ole -
This sort of truck is not for towing cars, but other trucks. They're very costly and so is the hourly rate, no need to use this monster when you can use a much smaller trucks/jeeps to tow a car These US trucks normally do not have sterring on that many axles, I don't think these are ever parallel parked Springs at this scale means a total rebuild, so that's not a MOD, imho, but a new MOC If I had this I'd like to have it fully pneumatic with a compressor and a dif in the lift axle (that disengages when it's lifted) while not messing too much with original chassis and cab Oh, and lower the crane boom! Maybe motorizing the winches .. I don't care about RC

42128 - Heavy-Duty Tow Truck
1974 replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks like all four outriggers are linked which is a shame actually. They move in pairs in real life (at least the back one does) Why don't TLG make a 1x1 cylinder head with integrated piston? Might even need a new crankshaft but surely with all these rather poorly working brickbuild engines those moulds would pay off rather quickly, no? -

You should ask the Mighty Mouse, not us. No way TLG can do that on their own As with SW Disney wants to end the old guard and enter their own princess. Let's se what unfortunate kid is going to end up screaming "INDYYYY" for two hours ..

LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
1974 replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Uhmm, it's been that way for +20 years? -
And just how would you integrate a building with a subway section in a City that doesn't have a single set going below those roadplates you seem to like so much?
-
Mini-dolls are the LEGO version of Barbie. And that's meant in a positive way at all
-
It could even be 4W and perhaps run on teethed tracks Would be a nightmare to integrate in most cities though ..

42131 - CAT D11 Bulldozer
1974 replied to Maaboo the Witch's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The +18 thing is the most retarded idea TLG have come up with. So, it's not a toy then? What is it? Not suitable for kids? Newsflash TLG, adults have been buying LEGO in massive amounts for decades Also, tone down ALL THAT BLACK INK please. Not very nice for the enviroment -

Thanx for the explanation Got a chuckle out that bit though as my surname is Berry

Agenda driven nutcases are not worth your time I really don't like Friends, but then again I don't like any modern LEGO My gf has a large collection of Friends but my daugther is not interested. She fancies daddy's spacebases instead That is oddly specific, don't think my parents ever mentioned that nor have I thought to tell my children

[TC20] 8848 Tipper Truck
1974 replied to Seasider's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Maybe for cutting grass allthough there are no rotating blades. Could use the PTO for that with additional parts There are also instructions for a bunch of other interesting attachments using the 8710 set and guidelines on how to motorize it Technic sure was something else back then Edit : Pop up lights! Very fitting car for someone who likes 80's Technic -

Impossible LEGO
1974 replied to Boxerlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's impossible to build a tower with 2x2 bricks higher than 3,5km (375.000 bricks) apparently : https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-20578627
