melting and fusing Lego
1974 replied to Aerolight's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Epic! I had Tamiya cars and loads of Technic back in the 80's but i never did something as cool as that. All I managed to do was a to make a LEGO chassis for a my lowly Nikko Panther (?) -
Very nice! I always felt this could have the suspension as used in 8858. Are you gonna do the others in the Rally theme too?

And it might just happen .. the Creator sets that is

The 4444 series was the hottest stuff when I was a kid, never in a million years did I want common bricks instead. Made 375 obsolete in a second. And when the Tudor panels came in 1986 with 6067 that was all I wanted. A twelve year old boy wanting a civilian set with a fancy lady, imagine that. TLG must have done something right Too bad we never saw them in other colours but they do exist as prototype parts in white and orange (of all colours!). There was also another prototype that was six bricks wide instead of five. Not sure how I feel about that I was lucky enough to get 6080 when it was released. I remember being slightly sad that only a couple had stone prints. Those two panels were among my favourite parts Today I have hundreds of those panels and it's integral to my MOCing. I like to carry on where I feel TLG stopped in the late 80's/early 90's Cheers, Ole

Well, you CAN compare LEGO to software .. How are those Mindstorm/NXT bricks rocking on? And all those app controlled (Technic) sets in a few years? That's right, obsolete like Windows 3.1 However, all the actual LEGO parts in those sets still work in the next +60 years -

Things can co-exist you know. Many brand new ideas are great on paper but suck in real life. I mean, we're not all riding Segways are we? We're not luddites for prefering to walk The 3001 works just fine with just about any new part TLG makes, that do not mean they'll dump the 3001 I really do not think your analogies are working, heck the keyboard just about everyone is using is NOT good, due the QWERTY heritage of the mechanical keyboard. Much better designs are around, but because of the familiarity, ease of use and simply QWERTY just works. Just like baseplates. They'll keep being around as long as there is a demand. They'll just not be from TLG in the future -

But he has 16 - SIXTEEN! - VPN's, so he'll be back to love us soon again -
It vastly depends on the mould/part. Liftarms are considerably cheaper than (Technic) bricks for instance. And vacuum forming (baseplates) much cheaper

Yes they do. They do like those curved corners. All kids 'cept those in TLG's focus groups Those tape rolls are retarded. An idea that shoud be found in the darkest corners of Wish, but no, it's an official TLG product! So DaleDVM, tell me how do you like those baseplates? -

Those wariations are pointless. You wanna stack a bunch of 3001s to create a building, what good is one with pins? No need to go with the BL cat, I got that practially memorized The actual 3001 brick has looked like that for ages because it just works Too much diversity means diluting. TLG have produced tons of crap that aren't much use today. And on the other end they've produced too little of some parts/colours to be actually usefull in MOCing. Go ask the Technic MOC'ers about that My point is there is NO point in retiring the base AND roadplates. It's just because TLG wants to and right now they haven't even gotten a decent alternative. It's impossible for a kid to make up a decent town unless (s)he buys quite expensive sets and only drives the vehicles in straight line . There is no water for the ships. no crater plates for the space stuff and so on "But you can just buy 16x16 plates on BL" is definitely not the answer -
When TLG bought BL I got directly told not to sell my prototype parts there in a private email. No biggie, I've made thousands selling them privately anyway. but I thought it would be nice to offer those parts to other LEGO nerds. TLG thought not Regarding the future of LEGO .. There have never been so many other companies producing compatible bricks and in some cases, much better parts, than now. And with the internet, that stuff is widely available everywhere Last time TLG was near bankruptcy it was because they had too much non-LEGO stuff going on (parks and games) and to be honest, in many themes, a poor product compared to what they used to have. SW, Bionicle and HP saved their butt. They cut their losses and went back to the core They cannot do this again. They have almost no control over the other companies moving in on TLG's very own turf. They can'tr control the internet / free movement of goods. They lack a lot of IP that buyers seem to want What TLG has is the LEGO legacy and very little else. I'll bet in less than a decade we're gonna see those CS and CC sets that they've refused to reissue for decades. Heck, they might even dig up a recipe for old grey ... TLG is the biggest toy maker right now. It's not going to be in ten years

The (modern) 2x4 3001 LEGO brick is +60 years old. Do you want it updated? If not, why? -
Worse than the Resistance series? My son thinks it's okay, but not Clone levels. I haven't seen it and I don't think I'm going to based on the trailers We're currently chugging through Rebels a second time and I actually think it gets better on second viewing
-
Agree with all of it, but I think those flexi panels should be limited to windscreens. Would be cool to see Technic vehicles etc with fully enclosed cabins I only use colours that was available in 70's-80's. That means there are very few parts I cannot get in the colour I want. Even if the colour does not appear in an official set, they were probably made anyway for the modelshops and thus for sale at BL I find it rather interesting that some of the most advanced builders, Technic and Trains, are not shy of using 3rd party parts. It's going to hurt TLG in the end

While on paper that sounds immoral, it actually works better in life

Something that has bothered me for years regarding arches, is this problem : Putting two arches 90 degress next to each other. The supporting column needs to be 2x2. I'd really like to able to use a 1x1 column. The only solution I've come up with is using a 3676 inverted slope. But it looks terrible for castle architecture So it was very nice whe n TLG made the 38585 corner arch (and the other matching half arch) But this only works for the 1x3 arch and of course, it will never be made in light grey And it will also not be made for the more common 1x4, 1/2x6 and 1x8 arches that I use tons of But could such a part not be made for the 5x4 arch and two other new half arches?

Art school students, nothing commercial

Sand green and sand blue are going strong, why not sand red? It's a VERY common colour for architecture around the world. Better than the myriad of blues and metallics (when everybody just want chrome anyway )

Ok, thanx for the info. My knowledge comes from friends in Paris who wanted to use the Eiffel Tower for and art project/movie and got a no-go
-
Can't unsee the Probe Droids now Also, the TM is not white. TLG really need to introduce the very light grey colour (that only exist as a few liftarms, sheilds and other odd bits) for common bricks It's also sorely needed for SW
-
It has, but there may have been a license. We don't know Also, they could put out a new big one using liftarms, The old one looks terrible
-
It's wellknown that Paris is very protective when it comes to the Eiffel Tower

Yeah, gear should be excluded in this discussion as there is probably tons not on BL. I know I got a few myself There's this set : Which probably never existed And this one, long belived to be a hoax : This hospital from an offcial catalogue never got into production : This one looks fully developed but never released :
