  1. But there is a yellow castle within the new set, so both sets of fans should be happy! To me it's a meme at this point. I agree, many more things I'd prefer them to bring back over a goat. Or new things they've not done before.
  2. Although the specialist series may well bring non-LEGO fans into it, so from LEGO's perspective, they're probably more valuable as a gateway product.
  3. On the third hand, it should be a limited set, so it's just a case of waiting, although that could be months based on similar releases. On the fourth hand, if they limit it, we are all more likely to get one sooner, but then it's a real pain for those who want multiples, because LEGO never seem to change the purchase limit numbers on their website.
  4. I wonder what the purchase limit will be, given the possibilities of combining multiple.
  5. Great idea. Can it be combined with a photo of the Pick a Brick wall too?
  6. I certainly like the variety that they're providing with BAM. Hopefully the online version is up and running everywhere soon.
  7. I thought it had gone away. Can we please leave the 'gender' topic alone now? Are you all castle fans? Would you love there to be more castle sets? Wouldn't it be great if they did a whole theme of castle sets? Yes? Well, do to that requires people to buy the sets. Most of you will buy it, great. That's 20 sets sold. But for the other million sets that they need to sell, they're going to need to have a broad appeal. - That means girls being interested in it, and feel that they can be part of it with roleplay and representation, so it needs female figs doing the 'cool' stuff. - That means parents buying it for their children, and they're going to want both boys and girls to have things that probably reflect modern life and sensitivities, which likely means things attempting to be fair, balanced, and show representation. - As noted above, if it's so important to be accurate, it would surely need a pretty awful small, along with other things like rat-infestations, cholera outbreaks, abject poverty, and torture, to go along with all the other historical accurate things like gender-based roles. But that will probably put off most parents too. And you know what, if you care really strongly about this - and it's completely fine if you do - then it's really, really, really, really easy to fix - LEGO® Pick a Brick | Official LEGO® Shop US Plus, the complaining won't achieve anything. LEGO are going to continue to have gender balance and representation across their product range. That's part of what LEGO is. There are other companies that don't state that as a key part of their approach. If you want absolute historical accuracy, then it is your prerogative as a consumer to choose something else. You are completely free to do so, and I hope that you have a fabulous time with it. Genuinely. Please, can we focus on other things about the set that this forum is normally so good on? Clever techniques that you like. Nice parts usage. The stories that can be told with the set. Modifications to the set. Combining multiple sets. Speculation about what might be next. Wish lists for future sets. And, of course, fair critique, given the parameters and intentions that LEGO set for themselves as a company. Gosh, I really dislike ranting on the internet, but that was somewhat cathartic. Everything is awesome.
  8. Just had a very enjoyable evening building this, watching LEGO Masters Australia. It's really very lovely. Brought a smile to my face. I built my only other forestmen set (6066 camouflage outpost) last year again and it was terrific fun. This is certainly a better model and I hope they do an updated version of it, or I may try myself.
  9. In the Verge interview, they said that you could connect (up to 100) sets together. Lovely work by @Aanchir on that. I still think that I'd prefer the castle to be taller relative to the Blacksmith, but yes, I take your point. One day, it would be nice to try to combine two sets together to make something that little bit larger, more along the scale of the Blacksmith. But I'm sure highly talented people will do it and post instructions before I even build one set. One day though.. I'm really looking forward to the build on this. It strikes me as being something fun and delightful. I'm loving the enthusiasm shown by the designers in their interviews.
  10. Given the location, and how you can't see it any other way, I think it's the forestmen's hideout.
  11. You know LEGO Artisan's SitComplex on Rebrickable? Is anyone else thinking medieval exterior version?!
  12. Impressive just how much larger and more impressive both new sets are compared to their originals, from the intro to the video.
  13. Nor indeed 60 year old designs from Star Trek, or 80 year old interpretations of UFOs and flying saucers. But LEGO's classic space doesn't exist in popular culture to nearly the same extent, and doesn't have refreshed references nearly as often. Nostalgia is largely driving the enthusiasm for this set. But where would the nostalgia come from in another 20-40 years? It's unlikely that the audience/fanbase for LEGO classic space will grow, and this is probably the best time for LEGO to do something for it's fans. According to this video with Mike Psiaki, the instructions for the two smaller versions will be available online. 14. It really is such an elegant mechanism. Especially when compared to the haunted house, which I love, but it's much more awkward.
  15. Possibly. But hopefully it's less cynical than that, and it's to get people to consider LEGO, rather than justify it. I agree that this could well be the last classic space set and it's a good way to end it. Not only because it's a great set, but also because the demographics for people wanting to buy it are perfect now. Those who grew up with classic space will form the majority of big fans who want more of it. They'll all be in their 30s, 40s, 50s now, and if they're not into LEGO now (through continual collection since childhood, having children encouraging them to get back into LEGO, being a bit more settled with more disposable income, or a global pandemic lockdown that forced everyone to do indoor activities, etc), then they likely won't be in 10 years time. So LEGO are probably at peak audience for this right now. Unlike castle, which has a similar set of AFOL fans, but it's a much more universal classic, compared to LEGO's interpretation of futuristic space adventures from 40 years ago.
  16. Or, I've got a month to find a new apartment that will fit the castle. But am I though? Really? You know you want to do it too...
  17. If it helps anyone, I'm going to consider the small baby animal in this set a kid. So the goat has made a return. Hurrah! The forestmen hideout in the middle is great too. That suggests that the whole model splits in two to be able to access it.
  18. Marketing. Because, just like their at building instructions, LEGO needs to be very clear that it's OK for adults to get LEGO sets.
  19. I suspect the reason they don't do 'greatest hits' sets typically is that those will appeal most to AFOLs, which are a small fraction of their total sales. Whereas with a movie tie-in, they can broaden the appeal much more easily, as the movie does all the marketing for them. But who knows, maybe kids will see this and think it's super cool and it launches more sets in the future.
  20. Given that LEGO sets are generally colorful, and this one certainly is. And that the reason the trees were black in the old sets it's because they didn't have the parts in brown. It just feels a bit odd to have a black tree today, when it could easily be brown. Not sure there are complaints about it, but certainly something to have an opinion on. If I had a choice, I'd go brown. But I probably won't change it when I get it. And although trees can appear much darker when together. A single tree like that is much more likely to look brown.
  21. Another excellent encounter with LEGO customer service. I've been gathering the pieces for the minifigure scale 1989 Batmobile (40433) (along with pieces to make the Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic) and finally placed my order this morning. The Batmobile tail fins (6171909) are no longer available from Bricks & Pieces. So I called, because they used to be. They happily added two to my order, then got an error saying it couldn't be sold. So they're sending me two for free. Thank you LEGO CS. Shame that they've removed the part from the service though.
  22. The dollhouse style not only means more versatile play, but also gives you a range of detail to add for a more varied building experience. Plus, you can display it open, for more of a long castle wall look, just as they have done in many images. Diagon alley works in the same way, and looks great displayed.
  23. It also makes me realize I need to get on and build my Bricklink Designer Program castle outpost, because the building experience for that is going to be much worse than this set, and I don't want to be disappointed by it, not delay building this one too much. I think the blacksmith is just too large to go next to anything else they might produce, and keep the same scale. The blacksmith is 11" tall. This is 14.5", but that's to the top of the flag, and the top of the battlements are going to be more like 12-13". But put them with a bit of space in between, and it will feel like a trick of perspective and look good.
  24. I also enjoyed how good the set looked in the background during LEGO Con when the presenters moved forward. No camera trickery making you think it's large, just a great, decent sized set.
