10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
RichardGoring replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I agree. I'd prefer to display it outside the castle for these reasons, and the fact that it's so nice, and would be a shame to hide most of it away! The old apple tree and landscaping also feels very much 'out of town'.- 2,976 replies

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
RichardGoring replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
Good day today, when my Pick a Brick order arrived. Rather fun to get it only ten days after ordering (it was best seller parts - the standard parts are yet to ship). Sadly one piece I ordered was not included, but instead swapped for a husky. Slightly annoyingly, the order paperwork shows a husky and not the part I ordered (6276993), and I have no idea how that would have happened, because it's pretty clear if you're clicking to buy a husky. Oh well. It's not a critical piece. Going to build the Sonic Chemical Plant Zone on Rebrickable to go with Green Hill Zone. -
10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set

I don't see the scale thing as being as issue. It's just interesting. I've build several modular SEC models and would like to build some of my own relatively soon, so it's interesting to think about how LEGO achieves the look of a full building without it actually being to a real-life scale. As I said, just interesting. Blind boxes however. What a pain. How silly. Bags was bad enough, but this is such a poor decision.- 2,976 replies

Yes, but bent by how much? And how does it compare to other issues that we've argued about? Would you say that this is a 3 compared to a 7, or...- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
RichardGoring replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Certainly see the point about the level of detail. But that's the thing with these models, they are all somewhat impressionistic, and not accurate scale models. And I wouldn't want to lose the detail from done of these sets, just to make them 'fit', size-wise, with the others.- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
RichardGoring replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'd say that the Blacksmith is not in scale with the modulars. The Blacksmith is about the same size as the modular buildings, but they're supposed to represent more modern, larger buildings, whereas the Blacksmith would, in real-life, have been much smaller. The castle probably does scale well with the modular buildings. It's the Blacksmith that is out. That's not to say that I don't think it's awesome. Or that I won't put the two next to each other. And the fact that the scaled down versions of the Blacksmith show just how little detail you can get into it in comparison is reason enough for the Blacksmith to be at a different scale. But I do think it's different. Same with the Home Alone and The Simpon's House, which are all a larger scale than the modulars, but you wouldn't want to make them smaller just to fit in.- 2,976 replies

You are precisely right. But I don't think they hide it. All of these loyalty systems are. If you really get into it, Amazon (in the US at least) also gives you 5% cashback if you have a Prime card. With LEGO, you get 5% on VIP, plus maybe 2% cashback on a credit card, for a net of 2%. Double VIP takes that up to a net of 7%. The reasons I buy from LEGO directly are either when there is a bonus through a cashback site, like Rakuten or Retailmenot, which often do 10% or 15% over above LEGO VIP points and cashback cards. I've had $150 off the Star Destroyer doing that. But you have to be careful as they often limit teh cashback. Or the GWPs, which are valuable to me, and usually make it worth it.

Wizarding World 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'd love to see them come back to the concept in the next style of Harry Potter when this one is over. But I respect it for what they've gone for this time around. And also that not every set can be a $200-$400+ expert/UCS style one. -
Interestingly, they had the silver falcons torsos and the DBG/black legs, and the green knight/troop torso and legs. But no weapons or helmets. Got a few BF shields though.
-
Impressive! I wondered whether I had overdone it buying eight of those torsos and legs today at the Charlotte store. Clearly not.

Wizarding World 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I may take another look at it in more detail, because yes, I focused on those things too. 12 Grimmauld Place is cool, but the scaling feels a bit wrong. Or, more specifically, the detail at that scale is a bit plain. I know the source material, and the front want going to be super interesting, but I think it's prefer to go for the Friends theatre for the space and money budgets. Maybe the 2018-20 castles and Diagon Alley have spoilt me for the current sets and approach. I still think, model-wise, they may well be the peak. -

Agreed. I don't buy much of the new style HP stuff, and bought the final thing on my wish list to get the common room GWP last year. Slight regret at not waiting, but also that there's nothing I'm going to get in this year's wave. That's such a shame. That polybag is such an amazing set. I love what you can do with so few pieces. But elegance like that takes a lot of effort, so it now becomes a frustrating experience trying to figure it out, rather than just the joy of building something that's well designed. Genius! Thanks @Micmac! -

Nicely done! Although shorter than the 3x 3in1 MOC, it's presence is still impressive. Especially compared to the older set.- 2,976 replies

Ooh! Promising!
-
Yes, but only a few weeks into their new system, so there's hope. I hope so anyway!
-
That's right. Currently no new 2022 parts have been added. And those 2022 parts that were available before the change were removed during the changeover. No word yet on when 2022 parts will be available, and what the policy will be on adding new parts.

That's so useful! The previous tiny limit was frustrating. Especially when you search for something and not only that element, but loads of others come up too. -

Great idea to MOC a great hall in between the two towers. The interior from the Harry Potter would one be good for parts and not too far removed in style either.- 2,976 replies

I doubt it. That's from the missing pieces page, not Pick a Brick. It says that there is a delay ordering those parts as genuine missing pieces. They're not on Pick a Brick at all yet.
-
True, but they were in a standard retail set with ongoing production, whereas the forestmen shields are, so far, unique to a 'one-time' GWP. But hopefully at least the torsos and hats come in, as they're in the castle.

Yes. It's currently rolling out, and at least a few stores haven't had it yet. So you may have to wait until it comes in.- 2,976 replies

But there is a yellow castle within the new set, so both sets of fans should be happy! To me it's a meme at this point. I agree, many more things I'd prefer them to bring back over a goat. Or new things they've not done before.- 2,976 replies
