  1. A town hall gives great opportunities for a nice fountain, gardeny-type bits (tree, garlands, potted arrangements), and also things like a choir, Santa's grotto and reindeer petting area. The 'problem' with a town hall is that most of the things that happen there at Christmas are outside. Not much really ever happens inside. And the stuff that might happen, you'd probably associate more with a church than a town hall, so it's unlikely to happen. The thing that seems to be missing most is a sweet shop, but even then, you could say that was in the winter village market with the sweet stall. I don't have the bakery, so I might also be biased towards more food-based sets.
  2. Robot snowmen and penguins with laser beams attached to their heads?! (I'll be quiet now...)
  3. I've made a load of MILS plates that add a lot of stability to modulars - you can pick them up very easily. I also did this for the SitComplex MOC on Rebrickable which is about 6500 pieces in my version. Rather than the 32x32 standard, I have connectors on the sides assuming 8x8 modules, so it gives more flexibility to connect things in future, and make 16x32 and 32x48 very easily. 2x2 bricks scattered in the centre and corners. I also use 1x4 and 1x8 bricks, along with 1x2 Technic bricks around the edges, so that the edges are all black and solid. And then plates on top (black on the edges so that it's all black on any visible side).
  4. This is brilliant, thanks! Also, they must have just done a big restock, because the Black Falcon stuff wasn't in stock yesterday. The shields are already gone. But I've now placed an order for 15 torsos and legs. Plus 133 heads of various designs (many of which were also out of stock yesterday).
  5. OK, these suggestions are all far to sensible and likely. I'm going for bad Robot Santa from Futurama with a smoke-belching factory, behind a cutesy wintery façade with the new candy cane piece all over it.
  6. Oh, I know it. We've had eight years in a house that I daren't even look at the walls because they crumble. But the new place has been gut renovated, and I have photos of everything behind the walls, so know exactly where I can and can't put stuff. Very different from breaking a power drill trying to get through old, old brick back in the UK!
  7. That's the prompt I needed to go through the last few StoneWars monthly lists of new elements and update my wishlist.
  8. I moved from the UK to the US eight years ago. Recently renovated a house and have been amazed at the ability to just cut through walls to do anything you like. I've run a bunch of stuff through the walls now. Life changing! I was even considering doing pretty much this, cutting a hole in a wall behind a bookshelf, into a closet behind, to make an ultra deep book nook using Diagon Alley from Harry Potter.
  9. It's not a bad theory. Perhaps LEGO wants to keep a 'lower' priced modular on shelves to act as a gateway into them?
  10. But look at that PAB wall!
  11. I suspect no one can know precisely, but there was speculation at the time that it was down the controversy in casting of the dwarf characters with the new live action version - Snow White (upcoming film) - Wikipedia And LEGO didn't want to get involved with it. Such as shame, as it's a lovely model.
  12. Agreed. It was a lovely little set, and I'd be delighted if they brought it back.
  13. The Bricklink Designer Program Castle in the Forest sold 10,000 sets in about 30 minutes. Although it was also less than half the price of 10305. On the increase in purchase limit for 10305, remember, that is only in the US. In Europe it started at three and has stayed at three.
  14. A nice idea, although it wouldn't look as impressive on display, I suspect. The light is probably pretty weak, so only getting glimpses would be a shame.
  15. No. Only double VIP events. Also worth noting that you don't get VIP points on the value of the vouchers you use. So although it reduces the total amount spent, in terms of efficiency (if you're going to buy more in the future), using VIP vouchers during a double VIP event isn't the best approach.
  16. I enjoyed Tiago's review. This week I'm on holiday in Maine, very close to Portland. I'm sure there are lots of similar lighthouses all over, but I can't help but think that the Portland Head Lighthouse was a serious inspiration for the final model. I think the fan designer said that a lot of the lighthouses around here inspired the original.
  17. Fabulous! I can taste the lemon sherbet sweets I had when I was there.
  18. How much are they? And the heads? I managed to get 60302 for $50, and figured that the elephant was probably a decent amount of that, so worth it.
  19. Please no! The internet is too full of people not understanding the author's humour and then LETTING THEM KNOW ABOUT IT IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS!
  20. Perhaps they are increasing the limit to 2 in the US to match what they already have in Europe (limit 3), and after they have been able to successfully launch it without it being sold out. I'm glad that they've actually changed the limit though. I've been into a couple of different LEGO store several times in the last few weeks and someone was buying a castle each time I was there. Not at busy times either. It's a very small sample size, but suggests that it's selling well enough. You could ask your local store what the sales of it have been like, and they will probably tell you. I considered the Camp Nou set at $209, as it seems too good an opportunity to pass up at 40% off. But I have no interest in the stadium and there are no alt builds on Rebrickable. Then looking through the inventory, nothing really feels exciting. Whereas I got two of the Queer Eye sets at 40% off because those could be great for custom buildings. Plus two pirate VIP bags for castle and pirate themed fun.
  21. Fair enough. I still find Friends more interesting, although I did just get the hospital set for $80 at Wal-Mart. Couldn't pass it up at that price, and it's very highly reviewed.
  22. As I expected, the official images of the lighthouse make it look much better. Lovely model!
  23. The size is one of the reasons they stated as not trying to bring back the moonbase at this scale. It looks nice, but also, to me, shows that the ship on it's own is perfect for a set without the need for the moonbase.
