  1. That's a pretty brutal thread for the designer to be on. Eesh!
  2. I'm very tempted by the Bowser, because it looks cool, and does something, and is really recognizable, and looks cool. Plus, it's cool. Although $270 is a lot for that. But $350 on something that isn't particularly iconic (it's relatively low down the list of things just in the MCU), nor does it feel that well executed (compared with other large recent sets). And it's $350. Just no chance. Also, if people are considering spending $270 on Bowser, will they bring that total up to over $600 for both? Most would probably choose one over the other. Again, really not sure why they didn't make this an amazing $80 set to go with all the other helmets they've made.
  3. I hope there are people out there who like/enjoy this and actually get it, but personally I don't see how this adds very much over a helmet version for $60-$80. Yes, it's got the salute, but it's not terribly elegantly done and feels odd without the arms in place. Not sure that a slightly skewed salute is worth the extra $250-$290 on this one. I didn't/won't get the Hogwarts Icons or Express sets, but at least you can appreciate all of the model. Not the case for me on this one.
  4. They employed someone specifically last year to cut down on the leaks. Maybe they're good at it. Or maybe it's just not the best time for leakers to get peak attention for a winter village set?
  5. Interesting. Sounds like they've messed you around somewhat, which is a shame. It looks like with the reincorporation of some original ideas it now uses out of production pieces. It's so nice though. May have to try and put this together. Terrific work, and thank you for following through with it. I hope you get rewarded for it.
  6. I was disappointed these didn't make it. Does your release on Rebrickable mean that the original plan to release instructions has gone, or is this the route Bricklink chose?
  7. The Burlington, MA store said at the weekend that they had all seven new figures, but not the accessories, which should have arrived today, so they were going to put them out when the accessories arrived.
  8. Very interesting interview. Also noted that Sam said 400,000 in relation to people buying it. Does that suggest a rough total sales number? Seems high, but maybe not if you consider global distribution over two years.
  9. Don't say things like that! Hadn't really considered not getting them, just that they'd take a very long time. I'm indifferent about a long delay. I'd be really disappointed if it was cancelled/lost.
  10. Agreed that while a park would be nice, it would also feel very similar to the CNY set and the ice rink GWP last year.
  11. They'd never do it. You'd need about 120 minifigs to show the huge queues you get in an airport during the holidays.
  12. Air traffic controllers?
  13. Whilst I don't disagree with you (the varied scale and style of the available sets is a bit of a shame), from LEGO's perspective it's probably very lucrative. They can use the classic approach of a playscale playset for the 3 in 1 castle to give it mass market appeal at a price that many will be tempted by - especially the high volume children demographic. But then there are the folks clamouring for more detail and bigger things, so the Blacksmith (which got a lot of criticism for being too simple compared with the original) caters to those who want a 'proper' model and 'sophisticated' building experience. As we've seen in earlier posts, if this was made the same scale as 10305, it would be so disappointingly basic, and most likely wouldn't have had the love it now has. Now, if they released that simpler version as part of a wave, then maybe. But it was first, and as we saw with Vidiyo, if you release the basic stuff first, it fails, because there is no hero set to promote/lead it. So it's detailed (and large) and people love it, and LEGO makes a bunch of money from it. And then there's 10305 which is a brilliant marketing tool for LEGO. So many media outlets picked up that LEGO was doing this huge new castle (none outside of LEGO sites picked up the 3 in 1 castle) for the size and scale, but also the nostalgia. It's $400, which is a lot of money, but there are enough people who grew up with classic castle sets who will buy it - most importantly, those who haven't bought much/anything in a while. And, perhaps even better, the news, presented alongside 10497, will catch other people's attention, who can't afford a $400 set, but will buy the also very cool $100 10497, or see LEGO in a different light as something they can get. But why not do something brand new for this? Well, the expectation that comes with nostalgia probably has a lot to do with that. I suspect that's part of what generates most of the excitement for it. At least initially. So yes, it's frustrating for the fan who will want and probably get all three, but that's very likely a small proportion of the people who buy any of them, so LEGO hasn't compromised on the demographic reach for the sake of the consistency you'd get in a full wave from a single theme. Again, not saying I like it, but I can understand the business rationale for it. Although, to be honest, I do really like both the Blacksmith and 10305.
  14. It could well be due to the uncertainty of the movie's release date. Will that be changed again? It's far enough out - just - to not have a 'final final v2 FINAL' release date for the movie yet.
  15. It's also surprising how many are available for less than RRP on Bricklink. The sold price range is pretty broad too - even accounting for the ones that are probably just selling the figures as an incomplete version of the set.
  16. My first thought was to pair the new face with that torso too. Would look awesome. Sort of sad that I only got one of them (mainly because I didn't think the face matched very well.
  17. The same thing happened with the Christmas wreath. It was out for the holidays, then gone completely from the website, before being released again (with no changes) the following year. Santa's Sleigh could well be following the same pattern, so hopefully don't get too frustrated (yet).
  18. It's not inexpensive at $100, but also probably predictable? The last four have been $100. Of the 13 sets, 7 have been $100. If anything, given LEGO's recent price rises, I'm sort of pleased that it's still $100 and not $120, especially as it has the highest piece count of any set (just). Gosh, that shows how expensive this stuff is to be pleased that it's 'only' $100!
  19. @Brick Clicker has a video saying next Winter Village set is 1514 pieces for $100, releasing on October 3.
  20. It is a wonder why they haven't done it yet, especially as it's been in the review on Ideas (is it twice or three times now?), so maybe there are distinct reasons why they've not done it.
  21. Agreed. I was in for the click bait title, but enjoyed the end result nevertheless. I have five of these sets (I'd love to build one for each season eventually, and one was a panicked mistake to my parents in the UK when I thought it was suddenly retiring and gone in the US)
  22. Nice video from Beyond the Brick MOCing the Ideas Treehouse into a Forestmen set to rival the Lion Knight's Castle.
  23. Ha ha! Although you didn't specify anything other than 'something completely different', which this very much is.
  24. True, but it does leave the possibility of a smaller set, like the Forestmen hideout, or a seige weapon with accompanying knights, or a medieval house. All of which would lend themselves very nicely to a 3in1. But, as you said, don't get your hopes up. It's only possible, not necessarily probable.
  25. We don't have any names for any of the Creator sets launching next year, and that's where they've said classic themes will live from now on. Could still happen.
