Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I don't think there has been anything suggested either way. At this point I suspect that LEGO themselves may not know. They've had less than six months of sales data and only recently given it out to third parties. We know from the leak that they've already got Barad-dûr designed, but how far into the process are they? Is it a pure concept and needs to go through testing? Have they done testing and they're just waiting for the production green light? It's easy to stop at any point before production begins and it's a somewhat minor cost to them. They aren't bound by a specific future release date either, so no pressure to make a quick decision. -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
RichardGoring replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
That is a shame. Looks like it's only one purple classic space figure for me then. Not going to buy another set just for that. I was really hoping the train wheels from the large Hogwarts Express would be there too, but they still haven't shown up. -

Alternating years with a UCS set and then a diorama would feel more sustainable and something you could do a lot with and continue for an extended time. Although it would be terrible for army building anything. -

Disney Properties 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Huigberts Builds's topic in LEGO Licensed
Sigh. I was hoping that the camera would coincide with the Disney 100 GWP. So now it comes down to whether or not to get the new castle. I'm thinking not, having already got the original. Maybe Bricklink is the answer then. -
It's both in-store and on LEGO.com

Sonic the Hedgehog - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Licensed
Agreed, it really does look very cheap without the outlines. Although it's also a very large image zoomed in far more than you'd see the figure in real life. I wonder whether in the plastic, the black outlines would interfere with the detail too much? I hope they tried both and deliberately did this, rather than just cheaping out on the process. -
Those photos are terrific. Really help to bring it to life.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
It's an easter egg for the Brooklyn-99 TV show, where they do a Halloween Heist game each year, with two characters competing to find the crown first. Edit: Oh, ninja'd. Ha! (About an hour ago, but I didn't see that the thread continued on the next page). -
I agree with this. I can see the logic of trying it out - going for something that's trying to remake the original set, but using modern techniques and pieces. But I think the approach to PoBB and Galaxy Explorer are what more people would prefer. I'm glad they tried it. I hope they learn that people call for releases of old sets, but what they actually want are new sets inspired by old ones.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Wow, impressive transaction. Just moving it all seems an incredible feat, let alone organizing it to sell some on later. -
Shame that you don't like it, but at least you have PoBB. Personally, I see it and think they're fine together. It's a small fort and I'm OK with it being a small fort. Compared to a huge flagship, that this fort isn't designed to support, but may deter the ship from entering a mid-level harbour. If it were to be a much bigger, more impressive fort, then LEGO would charge $400 for it, and at that point it becomes too much for relatively limited gains and appealing to a far smaller market. Dare I say it, if they were to keep the price but try to increase the size a little, should they have used a load of BURPs? Now let's imagine that they did. The outcry would be huge!

Lego Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square Discussion Thread
RichardGoring replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yes, I know, but it looks much more like a duckling to me. At least it's in a realistic colour now. OMG, I want a decent crab too. They've done a modern lobster, and yet it never gets used. Why not a modern crab. And printed parrot too. Agreed. A goat would be a major feature for this set, for nostalgia reasons and for the storyline/play, pet the original set. -

If you aren't in a rush, and spend a little time looking, there are definitely good deals to be had. Still need to figure out eBay to match your prowess with it though! -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Well, in a rather pleasant surprise, I got a bulk lot of LEGO last night for $200. Some Creator 3in1 and City sets. And then a complete Grand Emporium. It's the only one I don't have that I'd consider getting, but not enough to pay crazy prices, so rather pleased. -

Also, if there were no LEGO animals at all, where would the goat be on the list? Pretty low down I suspect. Now translate that over to most of the sets that LEGO sells with animals, which are generally targeted at children who don't have huge collections, and so they're going to want the greatest hits first. Horse, cow, sheep, chickens. So goats aren't as appealing as these winners. Why don't we have a duck though? -
Isn't this always the way?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but this is what they have put forward in the past. Whether it's really true, or corporate-lore true, or just fluffy marketing, I have no idea. -
Lego Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square Discussion Thread
RichardGoring replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
They've said before that it's a few things that go into it. One is the balance of spreading out the cost of a new mould over the number of sets they think they will sell, or whether it will be used in the future. For CMF and City sets, volumes will be really high, so the incremental cost per set is small. The things they've considered the goat in have all be high cost, lower volume sets, so it's harder to justify. As it then takes up proportionally more of the sets budget, so it's likely better for the set to do something else instead. If they do a medieval village, then a goat will likely be worth it to the set to make it in. But doing it as an easter egg in the belly of a T-Rex isn't worth it to the value of the set. -
What classic spaceship should be the next Icons throwback set?
RichardGoring replied to danth's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
It's only n=35, but what this tells me is, there is no clear favourite area for them to focus on. Either anything they release will find some fans, or they're doomed to fail as most people won't want what they produce. Of course, the poll only allows one vote, so you can't really infer that people don't like the options they didn't vote for. -
Oh no, please not a Hulkbuster type thing where they make a figure with entirely the wrong proportions, just to be able to fit a digifigure inside for no sensible reason.

Lego Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square Discussion Thread
RichardGoring replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
My take on it was that there was no set that required a goat that also had the budget to remake the mould (which is an expensive process for LEGO). That is not to say that they couldn't bring it back in the future. And they won't mention future sets in any kind of external communication, but I suspect that if the Medieval Village is a set in 2024, they are already working on the goat mould, or may even have it updated and ready to go. From their perspective, this is a bit of fun. Something to tease, but also just to recognize the meme status of the goat at this point.
