Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yes, another one in the waiting for double VIP or Disney GWP camp. At the moment, I've not got the time to build it anyway, but I imagine the autumn or holidays will be good to have the films on and build it. Maybe try Rings if Power too. -
DC Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Definitely. The concept of a shadow box is awesome, but the lack of contrast here just spoils the impact. I'm such a fan of these ones on Ideas - LEGO IDEAS - Member Contributions I think it's the same person, who also did this one: If LEGO had a decent lightbrick that was bright and could be permanently on, it would make such a difference to the Batcave set, and make it far more appealing. -

DC Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Seems like a missed opportunity. When this inevitably gets discounted by 40% they could have made more money by seeing it at $450 to start with. It's anyone going to buy it for either $400 or $450? I might be tempted at 40% off because of the batmobile and the bricks for MOCs. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I suspect it would make a lot more sense for the CMF figures to accompany anything to come with or after the set, not before. As nice as it would be to look for clues, it doesn't feel like the place to consider. The newspaper boy was far more likely to go with the newspaper stand in the Police Station. I really didn't get the impression that the set was rushed from the story at all. It sounded like a non-story, to be honest, but something you can make sound good. They gave the impression that it was very, very early stages. An idea on paper, and nothing that will have impacted the timelines of the building. More significant was the plan to include an alleyway in the middle. Obviously I can't find the source though. Ashnflash had a video on it, but I'm sure I read something that gave more detail, but Google is failing me, sadly. The colour scheme they did talk about a lot, as it was originally dark blue, but then decided to change it to red as they were getting negative comments about the blue. That does appear to have been a relatively 'last minute' change, although these things are probably locked in months and months in advance of production. -
Agreed. These are all generally very large, and so will be expensive. For me, this castle and the snack shack are the ones to get. The others are nice, but probably not for the price they will be and what you get from the model. I bought all of the other sets, except the safe. But I'm considering the selling the LEGO store, as I just don't think it's that great/interesting. Studgate station is also posing a problem, give just how much space it takes up, but I do rather like it. I wonder if peak excitement has been reached on these, or whether more people have seen the 2021 sets being built and so there are a great many more people aware of the program, fueling it further? Might have to get a couple more Black Falcons in time for the release of the new castle though.

DC Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Unlikely, but it may be a GWP at some point? You'll probably need to look at Target and WalMart for it, which is somewhat frustrating as they appear very variable as to which store has what stock. -
DC Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Ah yes, very true. I swapped all of those great parts out to black on mine, so I misremember the original set. Agreed, I didn't particularly like it, and wondered why they did it. The car is on both the front and the back of the box, so has to be included. Batwing isn't, but as others have pointed out, there could be a platform that folds out for it, which would make sense. -
Harder to pose figures on a sloped tile, but could lead to more interesting play features with a smooth surface. Hmm...
-
It would make a lot of sense for them to just recolour 31136, although I wonder if they'll have to tweak anything to account for the other builds? Would the fish and frog work quite so well in pink? Maybe red and pink tones together would be more accurate/appropriate? Either way, a pink parrot would be nice with the blue and the Bricklink kakapo.

DC Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
You're probably right, but based on the images, I'm not sure that I like the fins at the back as much, and it's really hard to capture those accurately in LEGO at this scale. I also take great delight in the flame spinning in 40433. I have 40433 too, and really love it, so there could be bias coming through there. I suppose I should have said that the main draw to this set feels like the car, which is a $30-35 retail set, or something you can build from Bricklink parts for $50. The rest just doesn't appear to come close to offering $400 of value. The back wall concept suggests a solid $150-$200 playset. The cutout reveal front wall would be perfect in a microscale build for $50. I don't see the logic in trying to merge both of those ideas and scale them up to $450. But again, it's important to wait for the full reveal as there could be more interesting stuff happening. Hopefully! -

You always have to wait for the full reveal, but it doesn't excite me, and certainly not for $450. The batmobile is the most exciting thing, but it's not a good as 40433, which you can piece together, minus the exclusive sticker for about $50. The while things just feels a bit plain and boring. A lot of parts to make it into a box, with a gimmicky reveal that likely won't look great as the background is also pretty dark. I had so hoped for it being like a geode, with an organic/rocky/natural shell, with a proper cave inside. The play features don't seem particularly clever or delightful. Not even an elevator down from Wayne manor. It looks like a $200 set, and at that price would feel expensive. Very similar feeling to the Black Panther bust, where it feels like there is a disconnect between the mandated price point, what you can do to build up to that price point, and what the market wants. Currently disappointed, but hopefully that changes with the full reveal. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
In one of the interviews, the designer said that was the original plan, in the very early stages, but then they did the Bugle, so they scrapped the idea. It sounded like it was very early stages, and not even a prototype model. I expect they discuss lots of concept ideas, but in this case, there was a small coincidence and a bit of a story, so it was mentioned. Same for the original concept for the Downtown Diner being a car showroom, but many things got in the way of it being practical. I suspect they tell us these things when there is no chance of the concept being made in the future. -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
RichardGoring replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
Still nothing in the US. Maybe they're doing another test like a few months ago, but delaying introduction to the US. -
There were quite a few notable female pirates, so I suspect they could get a good gender balance across all the roles and still be historically accurate. Plus modern media tends to show a more diverse set of pirates (in a way that doesn't really happen in 'real-life' castle-type settings, but does in LotR RoP for example).

I was looking for the castle topic to post this, thanks for the new thread. I think it looks awesome. It feels different enough to warrant getting it and some lovely off-grid details. Very pleased it made it through.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Several new buildings in the Bricklink Designer Program series 1 finalists - Designer Program [BrickLink] Parisian Street is most in-keeping with the front of the modular buildings, although very different at the back, and not designed to close up at all. Initially it looks nice, but compared to the official sets, I think it might stand out too much with such large colour blocks. It's a nice idea, but I don't think it's for me. I'll very likely be going for the much smaller Snack Shack though. Small builds can be awesome. -
The finalists for the next Bricklink Designer Program have been announced. Designer Program [BrickLink] Mountain Fortress Parisian Street The Old Train Engine Shed The Snack Shack General Store - Wild West They are all very good, but I think I'm only tempted by the castle and snack shack. The others don't draw me in quite as much. Whether that's the subject matter or the execution, or the build style of throwing lots of parts at it (which is something that many of the Bricklink sets have suffered from). They will likely be revised a little though, so let's see where they end up. Crowdfunding in Feb 2024. Also looks like they're doing a fourth round starting Jan 2024 too. So up to 20 possible sets from this series now.

Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Agreed. The Hogwarts combined castle looks good, but it's not nearly as elegant or clever as Rivendell. And remember that with Hogwarts it has to be reduced to simple 8x16 blocks that can be stacked together in many different configurations, as people buy different sets. They'd have to do the same for anything else - otherwise why bother splitting it into multiple sets - which would compromise the end result significantly compared with what we got in a single, large, cohesive set. As much as it sucks for the only option to be a $500 set and for those who want to attempt to army build figures. -

Deal! Two greenhouses it is. Also, I was wrong about the walls. It has a partial third and fourth wall that you can see on the back of the box. More on the Friends thread - 2023 Friends Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion - Page 19 - LEGO Town - Eurobricks Forums Also, just look at the space and level of detail inside this compared to the City or Creator ones. It's just so much better.
