[WIP] Floating Resort
Jim replied to Edwin Korstanje's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
At first I thought it was one of the Azamara Cruise Ships, but that makes no sense. It will most likely be one of the Holland America Line Ships. So it will either be the Koningsdam, which is 296 meter (200 * 1.5 = 300 meter), or the second (new) ship in the Pinnacle class (MS Nieuw Statendam), since you can't tell the name yet. I'm looking forward to your progress on this huge project. -

Well spotted. The 3L is indeed of no use for the main axle. True, but that goes for other axles as well. Same for the 5L with Stop. I'm glad they are available to begin with.

I have tried both LXF's and Alasdair's designs for the wheel hubs. However, they had too much slack. So I invested some time to come up with a new design. This design proves to be simply, yet very efficient. I have used two 2x1 Thin Liftarms to connect the axle. This proves to be very sturdy, without too much slack. Hail to the new 3L Axle with Stop. After designing the new wheel hubs, I continued with the design for the entire wheel section. As you can see the left side is slightly different than the right side (which is one stud lower). I will choose which design is better when I finish designing the sides. The sides still need a lot of work. Not sure on how to design them. Here's a bottom view from the inner side. Obviously, I need to implement some proper bracing, but overall I think this is a design I can continue working on. I'm growing very fond of this new part by the way. It almost feels like cheating when you're using this part, it's so convenient.

Can't argue with that Exactly! I'm working on one of the cubes as we speak. I will post my progress later today. Funny thing is, that while I have pretty big collection, I still seem to be missing quite few simple parts in large numbers.

This really looks like a model in the spirit of the contest. Not too big, lots of Pneumatics. You are indeed off to a good start.

No it's fine! Your images are way too big though. Please embed version of max 1024 wide. And you don't need to use spoiler tags for your images. Welcome to EB by the way. Nice progress on the trailer.

It seems he's been around for a while (I sometimes make the same mistake) Josszo, please embed smaller images. The maximum size is 1024 wide, commonly used is 800 wide. So either upload smaller images to Brickshelf, or (better) use Bricksafe where you can upload the big version and link to a smaller version.

You are right. My bad. I will correct it. Welcome to EB and welcome to the contest. Start building something and you are good to go We've allowed custom stickers in the past, which didn't result in better models. I have checked and NONE of the Top-3 winners ever used stickers, so I rest my case.
-
Why don't you start with creating building instructions for one of your MOCs. This will probably take you a couple of weeks. After that you can sell them and see what happens. If there's enough interest, you can make instructions for a second MOC. If not, you know you need another winter plan.

Actually custom stickers are allowed. So I'm okay with it, although I don't think it's necessary.

Hey there mister nice guy. What a friendly and supportive comment. We sure appreciate these kind of constructive posts We are all very sad that it's bothering you. I will quit my day job and give this issue top priority. Sorry for the inconvenience. We are currently working on upgrading the board software. That will also solve this issue.

SBrick General Discussion
Jim replied to Nofer89's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not sure what you mean by this. Care to elaborate? To put it simple; does SBrick still need a firmware update for this controller or does it work with the current firmware?- 780 replies

[TC10] Unimog U 400
Jim replied to syclone's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Word of advice... This contest is about pneumatics, so don't focus too much on all the other functions. Keep them simple, so you can concentrate on the pneumatics. -
SBrick General Discussion
Jim replied to Nofer89's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice find. Maybe I'm reading the posts incorrectly, but wouldn't this still require a firmware update? Lenard said they are working on gamepad support, which will (eventually) work with the SBrick.- 780 replies

That's exactly the "issue" about common sense. Lots of judges don't vote in the spirit of the contest. They simply see a big and good looking model and vote for it. And common sense amongst the participants as well. Don't build that supercar you really like, because that will, most likely, not focus on pneumatics. That's why there might be a slighty different voting process this time. And now it's time to all go an build great stuff
