Depends on the setup of the four wheels. Two on each side and one in the front and one in the back (+ shape). Or in a X shape. I think when using an + shape it won't be too difficult to drive, since you basically have a two wheeled robot with two casters.

I will try to finish my initial concept. That will be difficult enough, given my track record of finishing projects

A stair climbing robot is very cool, but that's not the intention of this robot. Since it will be quite high, it will fall off the stairs easily. It will indeed mainly travel on a flat surface. Having suspension won't add much significant value.

Sounds interesting too!! Looking forward to your implementation, especially Mode 3 Do you guys think I should use shock absorbers when attaching the wheel modules to the center base module? In order words; would it be cool or useful for my robot to have suspension? The base of the BWE looks like a nice example of a base for a 4 wheel setup

I'd say late August, sorry. Just started working on it. -
Thanks! The bigger ones are indeed heavy duty. This topic might be interesting as well: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=92575 Driving with three wheels requires some Sin and Cos mathematics. I have done this before and shouldn't prove to be a real issue. It get's interesting when you want to drive forward and sideways at the same time, using a PID controller setup. http://people.idsia.ch/~foerster/2006/1/omnidrive_kiart_preprint.pdf When using 4 wheels, you can use 2 of them for normal driving mode. The other two will be casters. Implementing a PID controller for this setup will be a challenge too.

Thanks mate, for the models and the wishes! So I will need to take apart my X-Wing Both solutions look good, especially the one on the right. Currently I am using an altered version of LXF's solution in my LDD file. Next step will be to build one of the wheel modules in real life.

I have indeed spoken to him about it. He does gear down his creations.

No I haven't but now you mention it; it seems like a better solution than a triangular shape. Also for attaching the sensors. An LXF is always welcome Currently working on the Wheel attachments. I will maken four of 'em, but I can still decide on which kind of base to use.

Okay guys, I think it's time to quit the "why is my entry not in the finals?". I have tried to explain the procedure and some simply didn't make it. I'm not the only jury so it wasn't just my decision. I understand that some of you are disappointed, but that's part of being in a contest. I'm really sorry, but I think it's time to move on. By the way; this is a good example of why I seldomly cast my vote in an EB contest
-
It's difficult to estimate the building time. I usually build around 250 parts per hour. So a set of 2000 parts will take around 8 hours. With numbered bags, this time might be less, so more parts per hour. Building this set took three evenings I guess.

Technic General Discussion
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm pretty sure he tried that -
I had the same feeling with some of the models. Some looked more like Ferrari and others simply seemed to be existing MOCs which were named "Porsche". But like I said before; lots of great entries from EB members and I think a fair number made it into the finals. Actually I'm quite proud of EB as a representing community in this contest

Thanks! I will review the Volvo (soon-ish) and Blakbird is working on the BWE. Since he is creating 3D models for the BWE, this will also take a bit. So hang in there, they will be coming
-
Final voting is done by expert judges from TLG and Porsche! Exactly. My short list contained around 50 models, so I had to bring it down quite a bit. That's a very nice creation, so I can imagine you are a bit disappointed. But it didn't make it to all of the judges top-20 list, so it had to compete with some of the other great creations for a spot in the finals. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you.
