  1. More sets to add to my "looking forward too" list: Modified Race Cars Combo Race Pack Up-Scaled LEGO Minifigure (it's already out, but I don't have it in my hands yet)
  2. Thanks Renny! The transformation on the big one is achieved mostly through the Technic clicky ball hinges, but there are also some Mixel joints, and the chest transformation is done with some Technic lift arms and a 2x2 turntable. The small one is Mixel joints, the new 1x3 rounded plate with open studs, and hinged plates. Basically this is the kind of set I wish Lego would make: Space ships with combo/transformation gimmicks.
  3. Yeah. Well they can't even get their bricks to be the same shade as each other. 🤣 Now in good news, how about this for an awesome print? (Image stolen from Reddit)
  4. There is some discussion in the 2023 City Sets thread. Personally I like these sets a lot.
  5. Is there such thing? What's the connection between calling someone a "turkey" and 80's anime anyway? Bad dubs?
  6. All, This is a redesign of an entry I made for the recent Classic Space Era Spaceship contest. My goal was to build a spaceship that split into two smaller spaceships, both of which transformed into mechs. I was able to do it but I really rushed it at the end to meet the deadline! I didn't really love how it turned out. So I spent a couple months tweaking it and think I have something much better now. Here it is: The Star Splitter. The prototype was called the Ursa Craft, which split into Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. Basically Mama Bear and Baby Bear. The redesign features a tighter integration of both units, a totally redesigned airframe and new wing cannons for the larger Bomber unit, and a complete reworking of the smaller Fighter unit. Here is the larger rear ship, the Bomber Unit, in space ship and gerwalk modes: Here it is in mech/robot mode: Here is the smaller front ship, the Fighter Unit, in both modes: I tried to make this thing rock solid. Both bots are sturdy and hold a pose easily, and in space ship mode things generally snap into place pretty well. There are a few fiddly bits at the edges but nothing structurally unsound. Anyway, thanks for looking!
  7. It is fun and everyone should continue to have fun coming up with Space color meanings. Also I don't blame anyone for running with the Red = Pilot White = Ground Crew or whatever that came out of the original designer interviews. I think those are real roles the original designers talked about, I just reject claims that they're "official". Maybe semi-official. 🙂
  8. Yep, there is no "official" meaning. I think people just want to sound like they know something others don't, and share things they've read in designer interviews or whatever, but what they read about never amounted to anything official. This is why I laugh when people say "Did you know Aquazone/Rock Raiders are akshually SPACE themes?" They're not. They may have started as a potential Space theme in some early design phase, but that's it.
  9. This might be the best thing I've ever seen in terms of a still picture looking like it's moving. The blur lines and the cape, you can just see it flapping.
  10. That rover is great, I like the way it elevates on its wheels and how snugly it fits in the "garage".
  11. The last step is actually building these from virtual Lego pieces. Can anything do that part?
  12. Cool! Apparently there are a bunch of ideas out there. https://www.google.com/search?q=tie+mech&tbm=isch
  13. I wanna see Tie and AT-AT mechs. And maybe an R2 mech. For the sheer ridiculousness, of course.
  14. Thank you! Agreed, if there was going to be another official alt-build after the two smaller spaceships, it would have to be of the ground base. Thanks TX! What's funny is that all of the things you mentioned basically "built themselves" in the sense that those pieces jumped out at me as begging to be used that way and I had no other choice. I love it when building is like that!
  15. Hi all! I made this Galaxy Explorer Ground Base from the leftover parts in set 10497 after building the smallest One Man Space Ship alt build. This is the original: Here's mine: In addition to the command base & comm tower, there's a power station, small landing pad, some craters, a small speeder, and a rover. Command base: Comm tower: Power station: Landing pad and speeder: Rover (which I think is hilarious because the truck/storage bed is under the driver's seat): Anyway, I had a ton of fun building this. Thanks for looking!
  16. Other two seem fine. Fett has a jet pack. You can see the backs in the 3D view on Lego's website.
  17. Thank you! So I'm NOT crazy for seeing the "Spaciness" in this set. 😊 I hadn't even seen that pic showing the modular front/rear bits. Cool.
  18. Yeah...I was willing to forgive the new less articulated arm/leg pieces, and the price increase, but that back is horrendous. Especially for Storm Troopers who have little backpacks built in to their armor! You'd think they would do some kind of backpack on the mech.
  19. The back of the Stormy mech doesn't look good:
  20. I feel like I'm being mocked. 😁 But yeah, two differently colored windscreens in one set? And none of them are trans clear/light blue/black? Has that ever happened before? Admittedly that didn't happen in Space sets either. Sorry, I guess my comment sounds pretty weird. In my defense I said "theme" not "set". Basically if Lego release a brand new Space theme this year with two different factions, these two color schemes could each totally work for the two factions. And the green car could almost be a rover with a few tweaks. Add the fact that neither build appears to have stickers, and that both drivers look fairly generic and don't have crazy hair or, like, tails and stuff, it has the "feel" of a classic set. Add in a few air tanks, and make the pink/black car into a proper space ship, and this is exactly what I would want out of a new Space theme.
  21. This is about as close as we'll get to a new Space theme:
  22. A picture is worth a thousand words.
  23. Apparently the 2K Drive sets were officially revealed by Lego: This is like a dream set to me. The kind of set I literally dream about finding in stores. Just cool, non-licensed sets with amazing colors and no stickers. These look like they could be Space sets almost! Trans pink AND trans light green windscreens in one set! This is what I want to see, Lego. Stuff like this!
  24. I will echo the accolades on the Aquazone parts usage, looks wonderful. And that vending machine is inspired. Any relation to the actual Nakano ward in Tokyo? That place is about as close to heaven as I could get. Especially Nakano Broadway which is an old school anime fan's dream mall.
