Ideas for new Lego themes! (Non-licensed)
danth replied to The lego fan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't think this deserves much more than an eye roll. MAB, I don't even believe you anymore. I think you know this isn't true, and you're just lying. The evidence is overwhelming. We've been through it over and over. Lego even admits that they don't want their themes competing with each other. You can look through Brickset and see all the years where Space is gone and there just happens to be SW movies in theaters. I have a post on this, I need to link to it in my signature because it comes up again and again. Speaking of "there is no evidence this is true": how well various Space and Castle themes sold. Nobody has this information. Except Lego and they're not divulging. -
One set can't be all things to all people. It's okay if 10497 doesn't scratch your particular itch. It's okay if it's not your favorite set ever. It's okay if it wasn't custom designed to your particular tastes. The real problem is we get ONE Classic Space set every 10 years. So we all hang all of our hopes on one set, and of course some people are disappointed. It also means even if 10497 is basically perfect it's still going to get all kinds of criticism for not being something else.

Ideas for new Lego themes! (Non-licensed)
danth replied to The lego fan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sounds like the unreleased Europa theme. -
Right. It was one theme. All my Classic Space, Futuron, Blacktron, Space Police 1, and M-tron sets say "Legoland Space System" on the box. So it's very, very official that it was one theme. After that they got rid of the Legoland banner and the boxes said "System". But in the catalogs all the space sets were shown together, with minifigs from different factions interacting. SP2 would arrest Blacktron 2 minifigs, Spyrius would steal data from Ice Planet, Robo Force would face off against UFO, etc.

Considering that Lego is happy to crank out X-Wings year after year, I wouldn't put it past them to just release the same NASA sets with minor updates.

I hope it's Space and not just "space"!

I thought Lego couldn't do stand alone Star Wars figures due to not having the license for that. They have to be playsets.

Cool, then we should count SW Lego as 13 different subthemes based on each movie, TV show, etc. Also I think it's weird to take the fact that Lego Space was constantly refreshing itself with new and exciting themes, with different color schemes and gimmicks, and call that a BAD thing. "Nobody likes them" is just a useful figure of speech not to be taken literally. It can roughly translate into "very few people can honestly say they're any good". I think they're truly terrible. Rise of Skywalker was one of the most outrageously awful movies I've ever seen. I was talking about the main movies. Prequel and Sequel trilogies. I thought Rogue One and Solo were okay.
-
Space lasted from 1978 to 1999 uninterrupted, and had various themes after that too. Lego Space also doesn't have all the baggage of 6 truly terrible movies. And isn't restricted to old designs and boring gray spaceships. This is 100% true and I don't get how more people don't see it. Fortnite? Sure. Roblox? Minecraft? Sure. Star Wars? Lol. https://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/kids-interested-star-wars-anymore/ Hell even SW fans, more than anyone, have to admit the last 6 movies sucked. Nobody likes them.

Obviously they meant that they weren't kept as full models. I mean one is literally a single tile. And I would argue that any scale arguments go right out the window with this set. The mantis is absolutely massive, strangely even longer than the Hercules beetle. From the original Ideas designer's own entry:
-
Right? And let's face it, a huge portion of Lego sets are directly aimed at adults. So it's not like they can't or won't make sets just for us.
-
M-Tron 2 in a new color scheme with yellow? Works for me. For an M-Tron 1 throwback I think people will want red and black and a touch of gray.
-
Here's a pic. Upper right.
-
Sure, why not? I mean, if they read reddit or twitter comments they're going to see the same thing, since people complain about stickers on those sites too.

Can someone tell that to Lego? Why do we need a 37th X-wing? (This is a rhetorical question. I don't want to hear why kids NEED them on the shelves so that they, too, can play with a toy from a NEAR 5 DECADE OLD movie.) I think the advertising industry would like to have a word. I don't know why people think kids CAN'T like what adults like. Everyone claims Lego sells Star Wars, Marvel, and Harry Potter sets because "tHaTs WhAt KiDs lIkE!" but aren't those the hugest movie franchises among adults too? Pretty much everything is made for general audiences these days, including video games, including Lego. I mean I played with Lego as a kid and I pretty much want the same thing now as I did then. I don't think "kids have changed". The world has changed, but kids are still the same. 😭 🔥🔥🔥

I agree, I see no problem using the new magnets for M:Tron, although obviously you'd have to recolor the yellow part. They can. People completely overblow the cost and complexity of cranking out parts in whatever color is needed.

Yeah that was a somewhat official story. I can't seem to find any of that stuff right now though. EDIT: These guys from the Lego 6000 Idea Book from 1980? There's also Jim Spaceborn comics: https://classic-space.jimdofree.com/jim-spaceborn/ And random comics from ads:

The final bug models do look really good. I guess they're trying to segue the flower market into buying this. Bees are my favorite insect so I would have liked to see a larger bee model in an official set. The tiny bee doesn't interest me at all.

So I admitted to thinking the Galidor figures were kinda cool earlier. But I didn't realize something... They're big! Like way bigger than a Technic figure. Basically too big for any MOC I want to build. I think Belville figs are at a better scale. I also just stumbled upon Scalla dolls, which I forgot about. I think they might be about the same size as Galidor figs. One last semi random opinion: I don't like the Belville figs that lack elbow joints.

Yay!

Yay! 😀

But you didn't type the words. You gotta say it! 😁

I for one have no problem with modernized versions. Honestly I prefer that. Give everything the Galaxy Explorer Treatment. And, of course, everyone say it with me: NO. STICKERS. No seriously say it with me. TLG has people reading these boards.

The rumored Moments subtheme of Lego Icons may end up being a subtheme for classic style sets. I don't know what exactly will happen next year but 2024 is rumored to be the year of Space. How much of that will be "Classic" style will be interesting to see. The large black Space set is suspected to be Blacktron. There's also the rumored Viking and Medieval Villages in the works. And therefore the perfect thing to discuss on an internet fan forum. 😁

Interesting. Well, if you keep it for 20 years...combo/bundle sets usually end up being worth a lot.
