LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
danth replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Ohh I thought that was a black space baby at first! Is that a new mushroom fig or whatever they're called with a black helmet? -
Yeah...that's pretty awesome.

Is there an app that does this that I can use? And I don't mean something that just scans your bricks and tells you what pre-designed sets you can build. Or something that just does artwork that looks like a Lego set. I mean something that can actually do full digital builds in something like Stud.io.

Is it true that Mario sets don't have paper instructions? I'm trying to square that with the idea that these sets are for kids. Are 6 year olds using computers/tablets to build these sets?

I don't know what this means but they could sell that set wrapped in corn husk for all I care, I just want to be able to buy it. -

That is so dope. I wish Lego would just sell those in bags in stores, and that I could ever even find polybags (or paper bags if/when they switch to those). -

Obligatory "why couldn't Mario sets have real minifig like these" comment. And note that's a rhetorical question. Don't try to answer it. There is no answer. Mario should have been done this way. -
That makes sense. I ordered one from Bricklink, thanks. It's described as temporarily out of stock on Lego so hopefully that means more are coming.

What's going on with the Combi Mech set? https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/monkie-kid-s-combi-mech-80040 It's the only new Monkie Kid set that is out of stock from what I can tell. I haven't seen it anywhere else for sale. There's only one on eBay for $50. There are only a handful even available on Bricklink. Did Lego only make like 100 of copies of that set? 😱

It's a white tile... What. WHAT? Are you even being serious anymore? The Zebra stripes are the only thing that makes that set interesting. It's the defining feature of the set. Otherwise it's a boring white SUV. I think I agree with this. Hell, if half of the decorations were prints, and the more model specific decorations were stickers, it's be 10x better than what we have now.- 183 replies

Ew! WTF? Yeah that set would have been really nice with prints. I think people really understimate how valued printed pieces are. I've bought sets I don't even care about because of how nice the prints are. Like Captain America Mech Armor. I don't care about Marvel at all but that shield print is awesome! I mean, go look at prices for printed parts. Especially retired parts. Then tell me how much people don't really care about prints. They are, literally, more highly valued than stickers, in real money.- 183 replies

Sorry, I should apologize, I didn't mean to ruin the fun or dismiss the fan theorizing. Also, I don't know what I'm talking about! Ok, here's a question. What does the hybrid Space logo mean for Dreamzzz? That logo has been co-opted for non-Classic Space for a while now, depending on color. In the leaked photo, it's got a blue spaceship. So I don't predict any kind of Classic Space connection. Is it just for the bus? Or will there be lot of "Space" things happening in Dreamzzz?

InOCeNt SaFArI veHIcLe MERDERED bY StICKeRz!! Look at this beautiful safari truck! Lego set 6672. It has everything! Besides the cool camera, suspension, and monkey piece, you get two, beautiful, non-wrinkly, non-linty, non-bubbly PRINTED DOORS with ZEBRA STRIPES. These printed pieces can be used, literally, in ANY LEGO MOC you could want to build. Just stick em on! But there's more! That's right. A fully printed ZEBRA tile on the hood! Another infinitely reusable piece with a design that won't crack and peel with age! Recently, this set was totally re-imagined in -- OH MY GOD...THE HORROR! THE CARNAGE! THE HUMANITY! Kragel! Kragel everywhere! The hood: stickers! The doors: kragel-paper! The roof: decomposing lint traps! What kind of sociopath would brutally dismember this poor, beautiful safari truck this way? Has Lego gone mad? There's not a special single piece in that set, no prize in the box, no gems to justify buying this set as something other than a bucket of boring parts. "But you see, Danth, there is a poor, poor child. A child out there, that needs those plain white tiles for a MOC. Yes, a MOC! And without those plain tiles, the child will die. Because you can't get white tiles in ANY OTHER SET." Aha! The murder was for good! The good of the child, you see! Lego works in mysterious ways, like a divine god, she taketh but also giveth. It is not for us mortals to understand, but to consume. ~ FIN ~ Okay that was fun. What other sets were MeRdErrD by stickers? Sets that would have been AWESOME, but the stickers just ruined them?- 183 replies

The Love for Printed Pieces Thread/Sticker Resentment Thread
danth replied to danth's topic in General LEGO Discussion
MAB, it sounds like you need to go make your own thread to discuss this. You keep trying to make this thread about preference vs cost which is not why I, the OP, created this thread. Personally, I don't think companies should cheapen their products exactly to the point where customers still begrudgingly buy them. I think Lego should make every set a home run that fans LOVE, and the only way to do that is with prints. Clearly not dude, come on. Look at the name of the thread. Now you're just being disingenuous. This is not the place to talk about a slight preference for prints based on cost.- 183 replies

I'm not sure there's a code to crack here guys. They're connected because they're all Lego cartoons. 😁 They'd be cross-promoting with Nexo Knights too if that were still around.

Well, my experience with Lego VIP has been a total nightmare. I tried to use my points in the store once, and the guy couldn't figure it out no matter what. He could see my points but couldn't apply them. This was a while ago. Then I went online months ago and tried to figure it out. I had a VIP card with like 9000 points but they weren't linked to my Lego account. I spend hours with different agents online trying to figure it out but they couldn't and the chats kept going dead so I had to finally call in and talk to a person live. He also couldn't get my account to connect. I finally had to make an all new Lego account, with a different email address, and that was the only thing that worked. It just sucked to lose my lists, account history, etc. And now I have to check a second email just for Lego stuff. But then to make things worse, there's how actual rewards work. You can't just select when you buy something to use your points, you have to go through the stupid BS where you exchange your points for -- get this -- a discount CODE. That you have to, like, write down or copy to a file. Like an 80's NES game continuation code. Sure, they SAY they will send you an email with the codes, but here I am an hour later and I've only received ONE out of FOUR codes in my email. And of course it's not in my spam folder because I checked that plus I did receive one of the emails. But, that's okay right, because it's 2023. You should be able to just select one of you codes in a drop down as you check out, right? RIGHT? Because it's 2023 and databases exist, right? NO. If you literally didn't copy down the code when you got it, and your email didn't come (like mine), you're SOL unless you can somehow find where they have hidden your codes. Oh, I found my codes alright. It's just absolutely ridiculous where you have to get them from. Are the codes in VIP Home? Nope. Rewards? Nope. Activity? Nope. Nowhere that would make sense. But they are under the vaguely named VIP account menu option. But then you can't even see them until you scroll down and find your history and then you STILL can't see them. There is my "reward redeemed" activity, there is "-6500" points, but WHERE THE **** IS MY CODE? Oh, then you have to know to click on the "Rewards Redeemed" header to reveal the code, which is effing weird because the first header showed the activity just not the code. Anyway. This is all very obviously designed to be as terrible as possible to use. They very, very clearly have hidden the codes and hope you just lose them. I mean, most people wouldn't bother. I haven't. It's taken me YEARS to finally redeem these stupid points because something ALWAYS goes wrong when I try. Anyway. If you feel like responding to defend this bull****, I will straight up block you no questions asked.

I totally get you. I'm surprised there is an intersection of people who like a particular sports team and are also willing to drop $400 on Lego.

I can personally say stickers are the main reason I haven't been buying sets I otherwise liked since they started putting them all over sets. I have put up with a few stickered sets lately though.- 183 replies

Don't think Lego doesn't have people reading online comments and seeing that stickers is like THE MAIN complaint people even have with Lego sets. There are many sets that don't have stickers because Lego knows they would piss people off. Like most of the Icons sets and many sets geared towards adults with higher price points.- 183 replies

That's literally the entire goal: have prints without requiring more boxes. And most of the time, at least a good chunk of the stickered parts in a set aren't used without stickers. I just built Porsche 963 and I would say most of the stickered parts are not used without stickers. You know they already do that right? Almost every set you buy now (unless they're very small) will have bags inside the large numbered bags. What they're doing is exactly what I'm suggesting. Putting parts into bags to save boxes. I'm just saying do it for prints, if that's the real reason Lego cheaps out and does stickers, which it probably isn't anyway. EDIT: To be honest I'm not sure exactly what you were trying to say but hopefully my reply is addressing what you meant. Except people aren't happily buying stickered sets. People hate stickers.- 183 replies

I just built Baby Rocket's Ship. I will admit I bought it for the green windscreen. I think it looks better without the two front prongs/arms. I'm more excited about using it for an alt build than the set itself. Also built the A-Wing vs Tie Silencer microfighters set. I mainly bought it for the A-Wing, which I've always liked, especially the blue version based on Ralph McQuarrie's concept art. And I've always liked super-deformed stuff. So the A-Wing micro tickles two fancies. It also looks so freaking good that I'm sad that Lego won't make cheap Classic Space sets, because there is just so much potential for cool, little, affordable space ships. Also built the Porsche 963. It looks really good even without the stickers. Though I wish, at the very least, one of the Porsche logos was a print (besides the windshield I mean). Also has part usage that reaffirms my belief that Lego uses AI or at least some software algorithm to modify designs to make them cheaper.

Can you tell the AI what you want to build, for instance a space ship, and have the app come up with something?

Now part 3. Let's say the "too many boxes" argument was true. Okay. So why not just put all the printed parts for a set in one bag and treat it as one trackable part? Wow. Bam. Problem fixed. Funny that all the Lego engineers and excuse makers couldn't think of that. Oh, what? It's not that simple? It can't be done? Are the Real Engineers going to tell me that I just don't understand the logistics involved and "if it was that easy Lego would have already done it?" Well, yeah, Lego has already done it. There it is. Lego part 77486. Multiple printed parts. In one bag. Tracked as one piece. So? What are the excuses now? "But but but those are all tiles! You can't put parts in the same bag if they're not tiles!" Why? Lego already puts different shaped parts into the same bag. "But but but that would ruin the numbered-bags build experience. All parts must in the correct numbered bag for the build!" Why? You already have loose parts that aren't in any bag. And you already have to put on stickers that aren't in the right bag, stickers are on a separate sticker sheet. So why can't prints be in a separate print bag? I know, I know, if it were that easy for Lego to put different shaped parts in the same bag, and have you pull from that separate bag while building instead of the correct numbered bag, they would have already done it. Well, again, Lego has already done it. Spiderman web effects, bagged as one piece. 36083. Different shapes. Pulled from while building differently numbered bags. So, excuse makers, what are the excuses now?- 183 replies

I finally have the time and energy for part 2 of my previous post. Tackling the "too many boxes" argument. One thing I don't like about this argument is that it's only used to argue against prints. Do you know what else needs its own separate box? Any new part. That's right. Any new specialized part means a whole new box, or multiple boxes depending on how many colors it comes in. And even worse are new colors. Every new colors means a whole slew of separate boxes. So how can Lego possibly come out with new colors? I thought anything that required more boxes was basically impossible? If Lego can constantly come out with new parts and new colors, they can do prints too. But I already know what the usual suspects will say: "But a single sticker sheet can replace a bunch of printed parts. You can't replace specialized pieces or new colors with stickers." But so what? That's just an argument for being cheap. Lego can make new pieces that require separate boxes, because they do all the time for new colors and new parts. Basically, stickers aren't a solution for "too many boxes" problem, because there is no "too many boxes" problem. Stickers are simply a way to cheap out. To reiterate: There is no "too many boxes" problem, otherwise Lego wouldn't be able to create new parts and new colors. Also, much smaller companies like Cobi and Megablocks wouldn't be able to print all their parts if boxes were a real limiting factor.- 183 replies
