Technic 2020 Set Discussion
Gray Gear replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There is no way the eclipse leak is for real... If you think about it would make sense to bring back iconic cars from the youth of the now 30-50yo, because these are the majority actually buying these 300+⬠cars. Like they did with the creator mustang. But the Eclipse? Not gonna happen. No. -
The blue brothers
Gray Gear replied to Jeroen Ottens's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Is there really a problem when you tell people the name of the car you built a model of? Did someone in this community get in trouble by doing so before? I dont get it. -
I dont know anything about construction equipment, I am a car guy. Just saying. Somehow this crane looks more like an excavator than a crawler crane. To me it looks like the track section is too high, and not long and wide enough. I would not have used the huge track wheels for a crane this size as well. Connecting the lifting system for the boom at the top and not at the middle of the boom might be a good idea. And a way to put on some weigths might give it more of a crane appearance as well. These are just my unqualified thoughts, I dont want to insult your work

If anyone decided to build my Model, please comment on the build and post some pictures when it is completed. I would love to see how your version turned out. Thank you very much Gray Gear- 87 replies

As you realized yourself already, there is no hole piece that would fit there. You'll need to change some things up. You could move the axle 1 stud up or down(all directions are meant by the orientation of the photo), and use a 20 tooth gear, if you dont mind the axle being moved and a slightly different gear ratio. Then you could just support it in the long black liftarm on the right.

Airplane Shooter
Gray Gear replied to uefchen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Lol I thought it would shoot at airplanes, not shoot airplanes themselves -
Please people, dont start an new Thread everytime you have a question, or have an Idea for a MOC/Mod and nothing to show. I want to see intresting content, but y'all are starting to bloat the Forum Frontpage with useless Thread corpses, that died after like 2 replies. For most questions or small developments there will alredy be a appropriate thread.

Which Steering Hub?
Gray Gear replied to badmad's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I myself think of this when developing an axle: Would i feel comfortable putting a 1.5L Waterbottle on top of this? If the anser is no, then your axle is too weak. If the answer is yes, then actually putting a 1.5L Waterbottle on top of the axle is also a good strength test, to see if there is any flex that you dont want. -
Well, I dont get it. It seems to work, even though it shouldn't. It is bothering me, if someone can explain this please do. I am no expert in this field.

Yeah I've also had a lot of these pieces break on me, which did not suprise me because most of the pieces are 5-10 years old. Those pieces are fragile, so after some time they break, thats just how it is I guess

Its a cool concept, but you'll have to beef things up. Its good that you are using 2 springs per wheel. But dont underestimate the force of the hard spring, those half liftarms are way to fragile. Also it might be better to use 2 small linar actuators per axle instead oft the Gears to reduce play in the system. Like this your one side of the car might end up sitting lower than the other, because of the play between the gears. How do you plan to put the axle on the Frame? Will the axle sit on top of the lowest layer? I cant tell cause height adjuastability

The Link is mounted further inside than the joint the steerin pivots on - thats all you need

Sorry I dont speak baguette. This is a english speaking forum. -
Ooh I can see your problem...your shift lever ist behind the transmission...that makes length a bigger issue. All transmissions I designed so far had the shifter in front of the transmission. At least there is no need for a Shiftlock System in a simple 4speed. But with your reverse gear, there is indeed a need for such a system. How will you prevent the reverse gear from accidentaly engaging when shifting in the center column? Also, these half stud reverse gears willl disengage themselves as soon as they are supposed to spin. I am sorry to do this, but I have done my fair share of digital gearbox designing, that ended up not working irl
