LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
That's probably my only disappointment about this year's airport wave. I was kinda hoping for a VIP service and a freight plane like they did in 2016. -

Why Lego reduce releasing hospital / clinic theme
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to ks6349's topic in LEGO Town
All the same, its not really diversity that's the problem. Its the type of diversity in the City theme. Speaking as an educated Lego town enthusiast, I empathize with the fandom in a way. Nowadays it does seem like the designers of City sets are quite hesitant to promote action within the city to subtheme status compared to action outside of the city. I remember @TeriXeri once telling me that 2015 and 2018 were prime examples. 2012 was one of those too from my perspective. Of course you have the regular police, airport, train, coast guard and fire subthemes that come every three years and you've got town and great vehicles. Unfortunately, harbor, cargo and garage seem to be dead - which is kinda sad because I loved those as a kid (teens are still KFOLs). But the latter two sound more like places to put sets from rejected subtheme ideas than actual subthemes. Otherwise, there is farm, arctic, space, divers, volcano, jungle, sheriffs (forest police, swamp police and mountain police) and miners. Of which don't really take place in the city itself. Personally, I'm actually a huge fan of the fire sets. I think I have collected every fire station because they just impressed me that much. Though the one from 2005 looked more like someone's house than an actual fire station. Glad they changed it in 2010. So because of that, I have a lot of red bricks in my collection. I also had a short lived passion to want to join the ranks of the fire squad in my town. I might actually go for it considering that their help is always needed with this COVID-19 issue going on. The 2019 fire station I think is the best one that has come. Though the 2013 was also pretty darn good too. I have nothing against police stations being made for City as police are a vital civilian service just like firefighters, public transit workers, postal workers, construction workers, doctors, etc. I just don't think they need to be overdone. I understand they sell well, but I don't think there needs to be these huge waves of them taking up space with basically upgraded or different versions of what we practically saw in the previous police wave. I think two or three in between the actual police years is enough. This year however managed to impress me when talking about city life. The automotive industry, which is also a vital civilian service, was put to the test this year with not one, not two, but four sets dedicated to the auto industry such as motorcycle and ATV riding (60255), motorsports (60256), basic maintenance (60257) and upgrading/customization (60258). The entire auto industry was practically covered this year. Then there are the air transport sets. I guess I was hoping for more than two airports and an air race, but there are no complaints there. I might actually use the pull string helicopters to my advantage. Conveniently, the air race comes with an orange and green helicopter. I hope those are stickers and not printed pieces because I have special plans for those. Of course you have the police wave, but given that the last wave was in 2017, this is the year its supposed to come out. Though in my opinion, the station from the brick box should've been the main headquarters. Because it's the only place where I can get a police car that looks good. Not too much of a fan of the one from the highway arrest set. 2020 seems to have impressed me. Let's see what 2021 brings. -
LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

All the same, I do wonder what this year's mega set will be. I'd hope it would include a pizzeria, grocery shop and post office. We may have gotten some easter eggs with this sticker pack here. A City town planning set would be a perfect opportunity to take advantage of those + it would have all three buildings I've wanted City to do in one complete set. For the vehicles they could have a food transporter and a city mail van. Of course you'll need a scooter and the yellow tram. -

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
The train station seems the most likely. In my opinion, City needs to expand its train range. Add a rapid transit train or a cable car. Go beyond just the passenger train and cargo train they release every four years. Also add some options such as train stations, extra cars or sheds. That was one good thing about the early 2000s Lego trains Her name is Poppy Star. That sounds like an idea for a people pack. I also put out an idea of releasing a radio station set for City with Poppy in it. I have two ideas on the Ideas for new City sets page with him. They're the town hall and the office. -

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I'd like to see a subtheme dedicated to the public transportation system. As for the town subtheme, I'm thinking about a grocery store set called "City Food Market". Or a stationary City Pizza restaurant, which we haven't gotten since 2013. -

What happends with unreleased waves of sets?
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I heard that some of the buildings that you could use for your town in the first Lego City My City game were also cancelled sets. Except they never even made it onto the conveyer belt. As for your question, I don't really know the answer, but I'd assume that either they trash them or store them in the archives until they see fit to actually release them. -
Same with Sir Alexander Dennis as he's named after a bus manufacturer.

Which is your preferred skull & bones emblem?
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to General Magma's topic in LEGO Pirates
I think Lego did this deliberately because they wanted it to be realistic from a minifigure's point of view. Yes, they could've easily used a human skull and bones, but that wouldn't have made sense as.... well..... the set itself is supposed to be from the minifigs perspective. Not from a human perspective. -
More Ideas: Office - includes three floor office building with easy to remove floors (complete with lobby, Mayor Fleck's office, and some other cubicles), limo, private chopper, Mary Sinclair and Mayor Solomon Fleck. New Character Introduced: Dell McDesktop, a disgruntled typist who works at the office. Auto Repair Shop - includes repair shop that is about the same size as the tuning worshop - only its white and owned by the Octan Corporation (complete with repair shed, gantry lift and waiting area), 8x8 Octan wrecker nod to the wrecker in this set and two cars to repair. New Character Introduced: Freon Octane, Tread Octane's sister who works for the Octan Coorporation and a staunch EV supporter - something that makes her not get along with her brother. Transit Center - includes bus terminal building (complete with lobby/waiting area, office/information area, bathroom, second floor lounge and clock), blue city bus with four wheels based on 40 foot low floor buses of today. New Characters Introduced: Sir Alexander Dennis - the head of the entire transit system. Car Dealership - includes a two story car dealership (complete with lobby area and a second floor showroom), a sports car on display (which can be fit with a minifigure and driven around town if the child wants to do that), a minivan, pickup truck and an unnamed salesman. New Characters Introduced: Lexus and Mercedes Ford, a married lesbian couple who own the car dealership. @Aanchir I remember you saying that you wanted more LGBT representation in City sets. Will this suffice? News Station - includes a two story new station owned by TV 6+ (complete with lobby area and second floor broadcasting room), news van, a drone and Gabby DeCamera

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
On another note, just2good brought up a valid point on his video about the air transport sets. What the designers of City sets do isn't really based on what children love. I say REALLY as in "it's not fully". He stated that it's mostly parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who buy these things for the little boys in their lives and I would assume that if my son or nephew wanted something City related, they'd want some type of vehicle over some type of stationary infrastructure. That's what Lego as a whole based their sets off. The mindset that adults have when assessing what a child would want to play with as opposed to what they wouldn't. I say boys though because City seems to target them. Girls have Friends. No sexism intended. With that being said, I'm definitely accelerating my ideas for City sets to try to have them pushed. Wish me luck. Otherwise, he also stated that City has given up on Cargo planes. I wouldn't say that. We may not have seen a decent sized cargo jet since 2016. But I doubt they've given up. Though i do have to admit that recently.... they do seem to be rather hesitant to promote action within then City compared to action outside of the the city. I say promote as in give subthemes to them. -
Another streetcar anyone? How about one that looks similar to the DC Streetcar? Could be possible for a future public transportation related subtheme for City or part of a mega set or Trains wave.

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
There was a little platform that came with the passenger train. But that wouldn't do in my book. I also was kinda hoping for an updated train station for 2018. Another level crossing too. I think Lego should release more accessories for trains such as separate engines, train cars, engine sheds, stations, etc. That system was so awesome back in 2003. Lego should really consider going back to that for trains.
