Commodore T Spoon is sailing
evancelt replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Interesting small boat! I like the splash of colors at the back. What's the boat hull from? Most rowboats are 4 studs across and this one is 6! -
[SR - Ch IV - Cat. F] Baywatch
evancelt replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great wraparound stairs and while normally BURPs look bad, they don't look bad here The top railing design is interesting - I don't recall seeing modified tiles on top of spyglasses like that before. Funny story! The guy lighting the top light is pretty fun too. -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
evancelt replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I would recommend you create a new thread in the BoBS forum and title it something like: [COR-FB] The Delphinus Orca Then you can register the build using this Build Submittal form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeOq-geQiR6JC_r5aACqR26Wom8Oy8lSYvYdwLrPNgHqlhZDw/viewform And the Ship License form: https://goo.gl/forms/J9sR6ADTElUosBev2 -
[COR-FB] ETTC Warehouse, Black Beach
evancelt replied to evancelt's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Not everyone can be pleased by everything I really like the way you did the water on your tower with the 1x1 round plates, but plates inherently have a surface roughness to them that water doesn't always have. So it works in some situations and not others. Here I was trying to highlight the colors under the trans-clear tiles and then later the cheese slope waves. I think using plates would have distracted from that. However, I could see accomplishing something similar with trans-light blue tiles and having it look more "watery" versus "icy" Thanks! Thanks! I looked at some pictures of black sand beaches on Google and they didn't actually look black, but very dark brown - which led me to that color selection. One other piece I had intended to use but didn't end up using was 1x2 grill tiles. I think they could look pretty cool on a rock face to mimic lava rock / pumice- 15 replies

José's Inn - Ye Olde BoBS Drinking Hole
evancelt replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Glad you're safe from the fires @blackdeathgr! We've had a bunch of wildfires here in Colorado too and it's eerie walking in the regrowing forests post-fire. 20-30 years is a long time! @CapOnBOBS RE: data backups, like @Khorne I find it helpful to make my working directories nested inside a Dropbox folder. That way it's both backed up and accessible from synced multiple computers/phones/tablets. Hope they turn the fixed computer around quickly. -

Looks great @CapOnBOBS! If your computer is out of contention, better build it with real bricks -
@Mister Phes asked how you dig into DUPLO on instagram. It's not hard

[COR-FB] ETTC Warehouse, Black Beach
evancelt replied to evancelt's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
They are working for me this morning, guess there was a hosting hiccup in the night! Only 1 monkey! Thanks Thanks! I started with a completely flat ocean so you could see the colors underneath, but the waves helped spice it up! Thanks! The roof pentagons weren't that expensive - I think on average they were like $0.12 each across multiple Bricklink orders Thanks! I started with some additional bright colors of pentagonal tile in the roof (blue etc) but it was a little too crazy. So I stripped those out so it fit into the landscape a little more.- 15 replies

[SR -FB] - Hilto, island purchase
evancelt replied to omnihash_cz's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Fun builds @omnihash_cz! I like the story How do you get the little bite marks / roughness on the digital pieces? You can remove the white background behind the text with the Tx button in the editor. -
DUPLO Terrain Techniques A bit tongue-in-cheek, but while playing DUPLO with my 7yo I thought it would be fun to try out some new terrain techniques using pieces I had lying around

You don't have to worry about the Duplo figs It takes a lot of pressure with a drill bit to force the leg pin out. You can read more here: https://www.evancrouch.com/fun/building-custom-duplo-figures/

Settlement, Black Beach, Gunpowder Island, Corrington
evancelt replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
ETTC Warehouse, medium commerce, ETTC (via Evancelt) -
The East Terran Trading Company has established a warehouse in the Corlander settlement of Black Beach on Gunpowder Island. The island is distinctive because it has a volcano in the interior, resulting in black sand beaches. Gunpowder Island is rumored to have rich veins of copper and abundant saltpeter, which provide ample reason for the ETTC to express interest. While the settlement is still fledgling, ETTC clearly sees the importance of the future resources to be extracted. The island is also rumored to be inhabited by hostile natives, so a complement of ETTC sepoys secure the facility. A soldier from the nearby Martello Tower brings a bag of outgoing mail to the warehouse, where it will ship out for Port Woodhouse. A friendly monkey helps stand guard.

Thanks! This is the secret rudder garden. Garden gate is a ship rudder I have another Duplo one in the works where I develop some Duplo "techniques", because that sounded silly. If interested, you can make custom Duplo figures this way:

"Sweet Beard" After the knighthood ceremony finished and the festivities began, the newly minted Sirs Geoffrey and Willhelm snuck away for a few minutes. "Have you tried the pheasant?", asked Sir Geoffrey. "Sweet beard", said Sir Willhelm --------------- Made some custom Duplo bluecoat figures with my 4YO and 6YO sons

Wonderful atmosphere! Nice job!

Yeah Im not sure how I feel about their printing going onto the legs (seems overkill), but I like the diversity Thanks! Thanks! The palm leaves coming from the ground was inspired by @Gideon's jungle temple build. They are attached to a 3L bar clipped into a modified tile w/ clip. Thanks! The brown tricorn with hair is indeed from PoBB: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=67043pb02&name=Minifigure, Hair Combo, Hair with Hat, Long Hair with Ponytail and Reddish Brown Tricorne Hat Pattern&category=[Minifigure, Hair]#T=S&O={"iconly":0}

Thanks! Thanks! The brown brick is actually some dark orange curved slopes. Bummer that it showed up as a brown 1x2 brick in some of the shots! Here are some pics of the build where you can see the slopes. The water is medium azure, dark azure, and turquoise covered in trans-clear tiles. I tried to get a good reflection on the water using lights. The jungle is a mix of greens (bright grn, olive, dark green, lime, green). The beach is tan, dark tan, bright light yellow, nougat, and coral.

Arrival of the Elephants, Jameston
evancelt replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Awesome elephant! I have a Duplo elephant that I've toyed with (haha) adding to a BoBS build, but I think you've got the pachyderms covered! Agreed that the Patil torsos work well with yellow figs The orange looks super exotic Nice build! Fun to see the palm tree coming off the side of the build -
With Major Brickford away leading the expeditionary forces on Terraversa with Colonel Allcock, Captain Keats was left in charge of the fledgling settlement at Brickford Landing. When Keats heard shots to the east, he hurriedly loaded his pistol and rallied nearby men to accompany him in the direction of the sound. As much of Brickford Landing was still dense jungle, the beach provided the easiest route of travel. Coming upon two of his men, the Captain asked for a report. He learned that two unknown men in plainclothes had been sneaking along the edge of the eastern picket. Corlander forces had asked them to identify themselves and the men had fired upon them. The Corrington men returned fire, killing one of the assailants and wounding the other, who they now had under guard. Following an initial attempt at interrogation, it became clear the prisoner didn't speak much of the Corlander tongue. Bringing in a villager to help translate, Captain Keats could tell from the translated questions that the man spoke Lotii natively. What were the Lotii doing scouting out Brickford Landing? Keats immediately tripled the perimeter guard. -------------------- OOC: I wanted to bring attention back to the fact that Corrington is still at war with the Lotii, and figured this would be a fun way Also wanted to use two new KTown Bricks minifigs I got recently: a redcoat officer and a browncoat BTS:
