[COR-FB] Corporal Hardy's Recurring Dream
evancelt replied to evancelt's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks guys! I'm becoming a fan of rounded corner studs up bases like this - they are super quick to build and look unique (at the moment!) since I haven't seen others do it yet. And there are finally enough 6x6 circles and 3x3 macaroni tiles to nest inside the 4x4's! -

Corporal Hardy of the 26th Foot had spent the last year on the island of Terraversa under Captain Brickleton. He had traveled to the island with Brickleton from Wullham at the onset of hostilities with Oleon. Even though those tensions with Oleon hadn't come to a head and Corrington was currently treating with Oleon regarding a joint effort against the Lotii, Hardy was still haunted by a dream of a charge that had never happened. In the dream, an Oleonese heavy lancer was charging at him and he was kneeling ready to fire his musket at the oncoming horse. He strategized that once the horse was downed, he would charge the cavalryman with his bayonet. He would wait until the horse was a cart's length from him and then fire. 3.. 2.. 1.. And then he always woke up ------------------- OOC: I backed the CrazyLegs kickstarter and they just arrived in the mail this week. Wanted to try them in a build!

Thanks @NOD! Figured it was time to take a break from DUPLO builds and get back to LEGO. For the furniture I iterated on a bunch of styles I saw around the internet and also tried some new things. Interested to try more wall structures with those solid 2x2 window panes. I think mixing the arched and rectangle windows could make fun patterns.

[COR-FB] Military Academy at Fort Stockton, Wullham
evancelt replied to evancelt's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks for the feedback guys. I think the end Duplo result looks like an abstracted version of a normal LEGO build. Definitely not planning to adopt this as a new medium, but was fun to try. I made the smaller Duplo pieces by hacksawing larger plates down to 1x2 (see link above) -

A crate had arrived earlier in the day from Captain Brickleton. It contained a strange alcoholic drink Brickleton had called 'absinthe' in his accompanying letter. The drink was apparently taking off in Westface on the island of Terraversa. Elsabeth Stockton decided to invite the women of Wullham to sample the new beverage together. Under the guise of a knitting circle, they gathered in the lobby of the inn where Stockton was staying. Stockton gossiped with Mary Chattan about Captain Brickleton and rumors of a war with the Lotii. Victoria Bettenworth and Georgina Fellenstep agreed the drink tasted of licorice. Harriet Pilloughsby was not a fan. They all had strange dreams that night. --------------------------- OOC: I received a whole bunch of those bright green Harry Potter mugs during a LUG draft and wanted to use them in a build! Also wanted to try out using the treasure chest lid as a window sill.

With the recent success of recruiting drives on the island, the Corrington high command has commissioned a military academy at Fort Stockton near Wullham. Candidates for admission must apply directly to the academy and receive a nomination, usually from a member of standing within the colonial armed forces. Lieutenant Bollford rides a horse along the beach as a training officer leads a contingent of cadets back to the academy barracks after a day spent running drills. ------------------------ OOC: To be licensed as a large educational building in Wullham. Wanted to try out a studs-up Duplo landscape using the custom 1x2 pieces I recently used in the MOC Through the Pine Barrens

Nice job. The upturned plates/slopes work well for the boat sitting at the dock. The lime ground covering could be totally legit and reflect real swamp algae colors, though it is pretty contrasty versus the reddish brown! -

Nice work on the house and warehouse. I especially like the house's porch and the warehouse's pulley system. Interesting mix of figs at the house
