Guilds of Historica New Member Guide
Jacob Nion replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Well if it's really just that and not a matter of linguistic style I rather not link to an example. I don't want to pillary somebody by accident. If you say it's just a mistake then I keep going with what I learned in school. -

Sounds like Historica 40.000 could be the next big thing. Space goblins and space rats lol. Let's conquer the sci fi forum! -
Guilds of Historica New Member Guide

I have a grammatical question and hope some native english speakers (ideally british, by reason of the cause) can help me: I recognised that often people pass on using 'an' before a noun beginning with a vowel in their stories. In my ignorance I first thought of laziness, but it happens too often and consistently. So is it just dialect, modern common practice or (what I'm hoping for) a way to make the language sound medieval? If so, I would adapt it. Thanks in advance! -

Let me guess: Gal Turok is going to build the largest siege tower the North Historica has ever seen. -

I get your drift @SkaForHire I have already a story in mind. It will be long, exhausting and I probably won't finish it in time. But I will do my best. -
**Book II Challenge V Official Announcment**
Jacob Nion replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Well, first of all I want to say that I love that category. Having the opportunity to create a part of the official lore of Historica is incredible. I just fear that this could be to the detriment of the primary guidelines pf GoH. What if I come up with a story about my character being incredible awesome and saving the day by killing raavage, saving the heir and having the characters of all other people standing at the sidelines cheering for me? Of course nobody would actually do this (I hope) and it's natural to ask other people before using their characters, but there's still the fact that in the end several people will put effort into their story and end up having it marked as uncanonical. In former challenges it was about showing your own part in the great story, and even if there was only one winner, the other stories were still part of what happened because they didn't hurt the main story. But I really don't want to flay somebody here (except Raavage). I just don't want anyone to be upset. -

I assume the cat c builds and story have to be in one single thread? Can we include our main character? And what if our story includes killing raavage as conclusion, would that be allowed? I mean if it gets chosen as part of the canon lore it would mean he's officially dead. -
Book II Challenge V Final Prelude: Beggar's Inn
Jacob Nion replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
All hail the king! Whoever it may be. Now that is the sort of inn I'm into. I love how high towering you constructed the building. It looks like something that started small and was expanded over the time. Not just a blocky tudor cube with roof on it. And now I need the challenges to be revealed. I literally have armed myself to the teeth with slings and catapults and siege engines of all sort, I hope there's a task where I can use them. Like "build a catapult to hit Raavage in his restroom in the obsidian spike. This is the only chance to engage him in a weak position". -
First of all, you did right to try your skills and collection out on a small vignette. Step after step, grow with every build. And I think you did a great job on this one. The colour scheme fits well into the already established depiction of most swamps in Nocturnus. Especially the little bridge is a solid build. And I really love that you added a new creature to the lore of Historica, and such a Nocturnian too! Great background information for those swamp spooks. It sounds completely like a nasty little abomination one should be afraid of when travelling through the Darklands. I will for sure adapt them when coming through the swamps the next time. Can't be far off.

That is an easy task; just put the head into the hood first and then put it on the torso with breastplate as far as it goes. You will have to use some force and the hood will tend a bit to one side, But it looks fine and good enough for pictures. -
The walls are excellent. But what stands out is the rockwork on the underside. Really innovative base.

Book II Challenge V Prelude: Alguroran
Jacob Nion replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Things are getting more hopeless all the time. We will need all of our master builders to free Historica from this combined menace. I really enjoy seeing another Algus castle from you. It's great to see such a different style of fantasy architecture. -
Nice, bulky looking ship. It pleases my taste of what medieval inspired fantasy vessels should look like. Too bad I won't be able to finish my first Skavenport ship in time for the ccc. I will keep it for the final challenge. The coat of arms on the sails is wonderfully done. And your rigging keeps getting better and better.

I live an hour away from Burg Eltz and I love the castle since I visited for the first time in my childhood. I think you did an excellent job on depicting typical medieval German half timbered structures of this area, not only by doing that diagonal pattern but also by using red for the wood. I agree with titus on the darkbley but perhaps it's not even the colour scheme but more about the texture. Your snotted tile technique would surely look great on it. But I guess this won't be the last time we saw this half timbered style in your builds. Good luck for the ccc!

Great vignettes! You did an excellent job depicting the architecture. I'm glad to have this scene settled in my city. It fits really well, thank you for this. I also like that you depicted these skirmishes to make the current events in the east visable. There is a lot of talking about the war, but people have to see it to get into it.

Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Jacob Nion replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Better say: it is yet unknown what lurks deep in the shadows of that forest. @Lazer it is now up to you to discover and tell us what is happening there. Vlad has summarized it pretty well; just look at the Avalonian map, there's not much space left for new members. All to often new people make big plans to build huge cities and castles and have to discover that lego is a extremely time and money consuming hobby. And often there's a lack of motivation. So we are careful about the map and give people time to experiment and learn their lessons about building. I mean it can be a huge pressure to claim something and then feeling the need to deliver. So if somebody puts a lot of effort into his settlement/home region and seems to stay for long we'll make sure to put it on the map. Your figs are looking great! I'm looking forward to your introduction. I think we didn't have seen a drider so far. -

Aren't you afraid that I could do so and end up having another one or two ships more? -

I command two Oleon warships. Shouldn't I get a medal? -
Well, let me say that I am very happy to have reached the position of a feared and notorious pirate sea rat. This is really everything I ever desired from the game system. I am especially pleased that after this tremendous series of victories a classy and fancy ship with a beautiful name like the Queen Annetta's Revenge has proven itself worthy as a legendary pirate ship sailers speak under their breath in every (Oleander) tavern.

REVIEW: 71017 LEGO Minifigures - LEGO Batman Movie Series

That silhouette wears a tricorn. Tricorns are a pirate thing. The series is scheduled for may 2017. Hmmmm, I wonder if there could be a certain Big franchise Pirate Movie coming out in may... on the 26th perhaps? -
Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Jacob Nion replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Allright, calm down everyone (who in his ignorant tree huggin' fancy landlord life-style in a sterotypical,cliché-laden castlemania guild made up of nothing more than arrogance, boredom and a massive lack of creativity shows himself and most of his fellow guildmembers unable to accept that there are three other ways how to participate in GoH) The map Exetrius posted is the updated version that can be found in the first page of this thread, and it should answer most of your territorial questions. The western border appears nebulous, but the Fallen Angel and certain stretch of land west of the Kelra Labyrinth are definitely Nocturnian territories (whoever likes to claim the opposite prepare to see your head mounted on a pike). Now about claiming land and founding settlements; the only important thing is to enjoy being part of the game and not to spoil the fun of other people. We do not claim land the way fancy Avalonian princesses do. They claim a piece of their guild, shout at everyone not to step on their lawn and discuss their borders. Imagine Nocturnus as a wild and beautiful yet very dangerous world where numerous people and tribes are trying to stay alive. We speak of land so old that even in the eldest and nearly forgotten tales it was already part of this world (unlike other guilds, which are actually only a few years old storywise). In all those centuries, cities, realms and whole civilizations arose and fell and are now forgotten. What I want to say is, territories can change, people can change, everything is flowing over the time. If you like to create a whole new clan or tribe that's great. And of course you can mark a spot on the map as their home settlement. But we do not draw borders around it. It's a matter of common sense how to interact with your team mates. There's space enough for everyone. For now I'm afraid I lost the point. Nasty Avalonians... But you can be sure the Nocturnus front page will be updated until the beginning of book III. Best thing would be if you just start building. Most things become clear once you jumped right into the action. -
@Ecclesiastes I am a steady contributor! Slow, but steady. Sometimes even a bit slower than slow. I hope those challenges won't keep people away from taking back Nocturnus from the Black Spire. I like the new sigil a lot. The old one had the advantage of including all four guilds and being highly recognizable. But I think if enough people use it as watermark and advertise for GoH it will soon become recognizable aswell.

I was just about to ask you where this beautiful new tag comes from. Wonderful work all around, every guild can call itself well represented. I'm amazed by the effort you must have put in this. Fantastic work!

I am good with the results, aarrrr! But there is mention of the capture of a corrington skiff "for good measure" now there's no further mention of it in the prize list.
