Thorsten, you're color-blind!

Very impressive indeed! "Cherce," in the words of Spencer Tracy to Katharine Hepburn in "Pat and Mike."

Again, wow. Also, I don't model wider than 7w because of R40 constraints. And because my engines, with the exception of the Crocodile and the Emerald Night, are all 6w--all the engines Lego has made from the 4.5v era through the RC era, with the notable exception of "My Own Train" (not a steam fan, but EN is irresistable).

LEGO Ideas Comes Through - The Train Station: Studgate
ivanlan9 replied to Feuer Zug's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I got my order in. Turns out there was no link, not until some time later than was claimed, when a big red button magically appeared. So I'm cranky, even though my order was accepted, because by the time I saw the button it had *already* been funded, and I wasn't part of it. But oh, well. Sounds like I have a shot at it. We'll see. And @Mr Hobbles, if you dislike it, you don't need to buy something that doesn't appeal to you just to support the "concept" of trains. Those of us who do like it already funded it! But we're grateful you even considered it. Thanks! -
LEGO Ideas Comes Through - The Train Station: Studgate

So it's the 17th, pre-orders for the Studgate station are supposed to be open, but where? I can't find the link. If I can't find the link I can't pre-order, and that wouldn't be good for either me or Lego. Or Bricklink! -
Man, that's a *lot* of green! Great work. And I think that kid in the video might just think so too!

Could I have some more, please sir? Not a fan of steam, but golly, those Daylights! (Much enhanced by the custom rods, of course.)

Wow, that picture'll make every 9v enthusiast drool with joy. That really is everything, or really close to it. I have more Santa Fe locos, I think, but if I were you, I'd keep my address off the net, in case I wanted to know where I could double the size of my collection. (I'm not promising to refrain from tracking you down. ...) (Same reason I keep my address hidden. ...) It does look like there are some mocs there. ... That's a *very* *very* nice assortment. I don't really know how much they're worth. I'm not good about these things. But I will say that if you offered them to me with a price in the low 4 digits I'd be looking at my bank account very, very carefully. It's a yummy collection & I wish it were going to me.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that @zephyr1934's win for the very cute red bobber is perhaps the least-unexpected OCTrainber win ever.

Small Powered Up Shunter with Pybricks control

It's very cute. Might be better with a 9v motor. ... -
@ColletArrow, it's really nice to see those lovely big curves in action. Sadly, I have no room for them: my layout space was designed for standard Lego curves, and besides, I have books and boxes stacked on parts, and modular buildings instead of track. It's not really a layout anymore. I really enjoyed seeing all your trains running like that. I've got all those too, but I will say that I think the Santa Fe would be better if you had an A-B-A set and a couple more cars!

Sorry that this is off-topic, but Audrey just had the kidney donation surgery yesterday (18 Feb), and both she and the recipient are doing well. I'm also eager to see this loco in real brick.

Slick. Now if only Amazon would carry the FxBricks 9v track. ...

[IDEAS] Railroad Signal Box [need support]
ivanlan9 replied to Jefry Been's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Oh, wow. Thanks, Zephyr1934 for finding this. I never once thought to google. That's the guy and baboon. I recognize the picture of Jack pulling one of the levers. I saved the article. Makes me happy, besides giving me evidence that I didn't make the story up! -
[IDEAS] Railroad Signal Box [need support]
ivanlan9 replied to Jefry Been's topic in LEGO Train Tech
A great many years ago, there was a brief article in some South African science journal about an older man responsible for one of these signal boxes. At the time the only means of setting the turnouts was by muscle--strictly human powered. But the fellow was getting old enough that he was too weak to move the large levers inside the box (which you've modeled interestingly and creatively!). He didn't want to retire, and few younger men wanted to take his place. So he trained a baboon to move the levers for him! I wish I still had the article, but as I said, it was long time ago: I was in college in the 70s (I am now 75), and the article might have been from the 30s or 40s, possibly even the 20s. And certainly the motive power at the time of reporting was steam. I hope this makes it; I doubt very much it makes it into production, but it would make a lovely set, so I hope fervently I'm wrong! -
Supported. And I like the white critter just the way it is; the blue and black recolors just don't do it for me.

@tmctiger, regarding the Tower Bridge: did you have to buy a second TB kit? Or was there enough in a single kit to make your mods? I really like the look of it this way. (I apologize if I missed something in this thread--I've been away for a while.)

Sweet! Very nice job! BTW, The Diesel Spotters' Guide series has basic info on these machines. But not the level you got in the book you found (which I've never heard of!). Again, great job. Almost makes me wish I modeled in 8w.

Great stuff! I like the new power connectors. And I'd really like to see that new 9v motor being tested. ... -
I'm not fond of steam, but I gotta say this thing's a hulk. Very cool. Also: hawking a kidney might not be feasible. My wife's trying to donate one, and all the tests and delays and bureaucratic obstacles have dragged on, and on, and on. She was originally planning to have the surgery in December, on Christmas break, so that she would be recovered enough to teach next semester. It's looknig more and more like it's not going to be until summer--at best! Every time she sneezes, they say, "Oh, time for another test!" Sigh.

It's just as good as the first.
