  1. Some copies of the set definitely do include the expert text. You can see it in the following unboxing video. I'm wondering if maybe it's a regional thing and only the North American versions of the set have got the logo. Lego will definitely replace your missing part. They have sent me replacement pieces in the past without any bother. Last year they even sent me a replacement instruction book for Assembly Square as the copy that came in my set had got some damaged pages.
  2. Well, whatever next year's set turns out to be, I do hope we won't have to wait till mid November again before even the slightest bit of news leaks out. It would be nice to think we might get some vague rumors over the summer although I am not holding my breath. I think one of the hardest things about being a lego modular fan is the long year we have to endure between sets getting released. In the meantime lego could knock us off our feet with a surprise announcement of cafe corner being re-released. Unlikely, but we can at least wish.
  3. So it seems there are couple of errors in the production of the instructions and the packaging. Also there is an error with the printing/graphic design on the set itself. Grammar isn't one of my strong points but I'm pretty sure there should be an apostrophe before the "S" in Jim's Diner on the front door. I can forgive that though as the printed door piece does look great. Pretty weird that Lego would miss these errors though.
  4. Although I received my set on Friday, I haven't actually opened up the box yet. I have just looked at the PDF instructions from the Lego website though and there doesn't appear to be any arrows printed on page 157 that shouldn't be there.
  5. It wasn't really the colour I was referring too. I agree that much tan would make a set like this pretty ugly. It was mainly the tower, details around the windows and roof line and just the general shape and style of the building that I liked. To me it just looked like the kind of building which work well as a Modular.
  6. This is a good idea. I'm not really a fan of the new "modular" style houses that seem to have become the new default for Creator 3 in 1 buildings, but I do think this format would work pretty well for a Castle. Last summer there were 3 Creator summer houses released which could all be combined in to one large house if you bought all 3 sets. This approach would lend itself well to a castle building.
  7. Further to my earlier post where I mentioned a modular theatre building, this is the sort of thing I had in mind. I think a design like this is just begging to be made in to a modular. The ground floor could contain a small ticket office, the main stage and some seating. The second level would hold the balcony raised seating and on the top floor maybe dressing rooms or something like that for the actors. Another thing I've always felt would work well would be a New York style newspaper reporters office. I think this would fit in very well with the Detectives Office.
  8. I agree, I don't think they'd do Art Deco 2 years in a row. I also think that after DD being such a distinct American building, next year's will probably revert to a more generic or European style. I know a lot of people felt that DD was a conscious effort to push the modulars in to a new era away from the 1920's and 30's but personally I think the only reason that DD was set in the 1950's is because that was an obvious choice for a Diner. Lets face it a 1930's Diner wouldn't have worked anywhere near as well. So I don't think there is any reason to assume that the next set will also be set in the 50's. I think it could easily go back to the 1930's or maybe even a different era altogether to suit whatever type of building they want to create. For instance - if they decided to release a modular discotheque then the obvious choice would be to give it a 1970's setting. I think there are 2 safe bets for next year. I think the detailed faces are definitely here to stay on all future modulars and I think the next one will be a corner building if you go by the cycle of how often corner sets get released. I hope next years isn't another food outlet, there are enough of those already. I would like to see a museum, post office, theatre, toy store or some other kind of shop. Actually I think a theatre would work really well and would give options for some lovely architectural details. Especially now that PC has been retired I think an old style theatre would be great. Thanks, just one more post and you will hit this mile stone as well!
  9. Creating named characters and a storyline within Pirates wouldn't be anything new. I might be wrong on this but as far as I'm aware the original theme of Pirates from 1989 was the first time Lego had included actual named minifigs, Captain Roger Redbeard, Governor Broadside Bo'Sun Will etc... They even released a storybook along with the first wave of sets to accompany the series. I have still got a copy of this somewhere in storage in my parents attic. Lego Pirates was certainly ground breaking when it was first launched. I can still remember how exited I felt seeing the new minifigs for the first time with their detailed face prints, wooden legs and hook hands. Also who remembers the old style packaging with the hinged flaps on the front which could be lifted to reveal all the unique pieces included in the set? Anyway... I'm reminiscing too much, but they certainly were the good old days.
  10. Ok, so I know it's a bit early in the year to start speculating, but just wondered what would everyone like to see for the 2019 modular? Do you think it will be a hotel as hinted at in the designer video for DD? Do you think they will carry on with the art deco style or will the set return to the more familiar style of past modulars?
  11. If lego were to release a creator expert castle with the sort of realism and attention to detail we see in the creator modulars, then I think this would have the potential to be a really magnificent set and I would imagine would be very popular. I'm surprised they've not done it already actually as a medieval castle lends itself very well to the creator expert line. And with the 60th anniversary of lego and the 40th anniversary of the classic castle theme, I think this year would have been a perfect time to do it.
  12. I've just noticed that the higher quality image of the hospital along with the trains that were being discussed a few days ago have now been uploaded to Youtube.
  13. For anyone who missed the higher quality images of the new trains that were leaked earlier in the week - somebody has now uploaded a slide show to Youtube containing the pics.
  14. I would love to see Lego release a large and highly detailed medieval castle aimed at adult collectors. Don't know how likely this is to happen but I reckon it would work very well as a Creator Expert set.
  15. Just watched the review. This really does make the set look great. From looking at photos online I had assumed it might be tricky to actually see the ship clearly as a result of all the joints and seams in the bottle pieces. Luckily that is not the case at all though and it looks brilliant. Jang raises a pretty good point in his review. The wax seal on the bottle has the initials of the lego designer who worked on the set and not the original fan who came up with the idea. In my opinion it would have been better to use the fan's initials. The final set does differ quite a lot from his original design, but then the set wouldn't exist in the first place if it wasn't for him.
  16. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a language issue actually. Or maybe they think the word "expert" could potentially scare off any casual buyers who might assume the set is too advanced for them.
  17. Anybody know why some copies of DD are missing the EXPERT wording below the logo on the box? My set was delivered today and the text is missing on mine but the logo symbol is there. I'm not bothered by this but just wondered if anyone knows why this is. Have lego scrapped the expert text on all the creator sets or is it a glitch with the print run?
  18. I also regret not owning town hall. It's such a huge and impactful set with a fairly decent interior as well.
  19. I have spent ages looking for these alleged new pics of the train sets but all I can find is the low res images that were leaked a few weeks ago. There are also people over in the Lego City forum claiming that new pics of the City hospital are available online. Can anyone suggest how to find these images.
  20. So what do people think is the most likely to happen in 2019 - Either the return of a traditional style Castle theme or a revival of Lego Pirates? I can't imagine they would relaunch both at the same time so my money is on Lego Pirates for next year. It will be the 30th anniversary plus we haven't had anything Pirate related since 2015 except for the Creator Pirate roller coaster coming out next summer. Come to think of it maybe the roller coaster is a teaser for new Pirate sets coming soon. I also feel that TLG would probably want to leave a bit of a gap after Nexo Knights before they release anything else Castle related.
  21. Actually something like that would work pretty well. Lets face it, if Lego wanted to bring Pirates back as a major multi year theme, then they would almost certainly want to create characters and a deeply embedded story line with the potential for extra merchandising like comics, cartoons, video games etc. I would prefer they did this as opposed to just a single wave of sets consisting of the usual recycled ideas of Pirate Ship, Soldiers Fort and Skull shaped Pirate hideout.
  22. I agree. I wouldn't mind fantasy elements like sea monsters, mermaids or Pirates of the Caribbean style zombie ghost pirates. My biggest fear is that Lego Pirates would get the Nexo Knights treatment and suddenly we'd get Flying Pirate ships with Lazer guns etc.
  23. I would love to see Pirates return in some form for the 30th anniversary next year. Just hope it doesn't get the full on fantasy treatment in the same atyle as Nexo Knights. It would be nice to have a follow up to the 2015 pirate line but hopefully this time it would stick around longer than just one year. Even if they don't re-launch the pirate theme next year, I would like them to at least acknowledge the 30th anniversary in some way. A massive Creator Expert pirate ship aimed at adult collectors and designed to rival the Imperial Flagship would be incredible.
  24. Thanks a lot @koalayummies for the great mini review. I was on the fence about getting this set but having seen some of the reviews online I may just have to get it. I actually like the ship in the final version of this set. It might be smaller than the original Ideas submission but I appreciate the fact they had to scale it down to fit inside the smaller bottle. And the bottle does look much more realistic and in scale with a real wine bottle compared to the designers original Ideas model which was too big in my opinion. The photo of the set next to Skulls Eye Schooner is great and gives a good idea of the size of this set.
  25. Is this true about the new high res images of the hospital and trains? I've been scouring the internet but all I can find is the low quality pics that were leaked a couple of weeks ago.
