Licensed Themes VS Original Themes
JJ Tong (zfogshooterz) replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'll definitely agree that saying today sets is garbage is quite crossing the grid line there. It's all different point of views, what icm said pretty much nails it. While Lego David thinks that 2018 and 2019 stuffs is garbage, on the contrary, 2018's sets and stories have been very enjoyable for me which results in a fun year. And 2019 sets looks darn cool with the Lego Movie 2 stuffs. So yeah, I would guess our arguments will always not be completely justifiable. Coming to commercials, I did say that before 2018 is pretty the golden times due to me liking the style. But like I said, post 2018 stuffs it not that bad if you try to look at it neutrally. I view it as trying to show how kids interact with it (which to think of it more, seems similar to the 80s and 90s commercials) while pre-2018 direction shows on how the sets and play functions are the stars of the show. Still, it's all the matter of perspective and I don't think there's an absolute answer. -

To think of it more, I think the Overlord's presence is a just more for the sake of throwbacks which is still pretty cool. Since I've remembered what GarmaFan said pages back. I don't really see how he could fit into the mini-movies though. Like he said, the Overlord's aesthetic style is all just throwbacks. -
[MOC] Agamemnon, Tyrant Amphibib King
JJ Tong (zfogshooterz) replied to Mitch Henry's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Wanted to comment on this earlier, but didn't get to it, so I might as well do it now since I've commented on the recent Carbonfire Commando. It's an amphibious monster goodness! I'll second the previous comments on the parts usage and color scheme, they're really good. What also amazes me is how the head works. Never would have thought too that ammo balls/zamor spheres would make a decent eyeball for monsters like this! Great figure and concept there! -

Whoa, I would never have thought the SW constraction chestplates would make such good thighs for a large figure. A pretty sleek figure there with the armor choices and the tubes! -

It does seemed from 2018 or so onwards, the direction on how Lego commercials is has changed. Personally, it's not that bad (if you try to look at it neutrally). But, yeah, I will say what's before is pretty much the golden times. -
Licensed Themes VS Original Themes
JJ Tong (zfogshooterz) replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think, at this point, speak for yourself. I've seen a bunch other commercial but I've never see Lego commercials to be garbage. Personally, I think they're the most tolerable (for most themes). In fact, I find them quite entertaining to the point where I would rewind to watch them again. This is obviously my point of view for my own reasons. If you think it's garbage compare to others, that's your opinion. But there are people who may think otherwise. -

My only guess that I could think off aside from the sake of throwbacks is to have something for the Golden Dragon to fight against if two kids plays with that set. -

Whoops sorry, I just took a look again at the Trailer and yeah, sorry, he doesn't have four arms. I literally mistook the cape for an arm. But still, yeah, no leg prints and no cape. And possibly a less menacing staff. -

JJ Tong (zfogshooterz) replied to Chilis's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Well, it's kinda odd for the big bad to just be that way in the pack considering he has four arms a cape and a more menacing staff (no leg prints has been discussed right?) as shown in the trailer. That said, that figure looked darn cool. I do love that Oni Mask design! It's quite nice to have another Oni Mask too. I will have to agree with this. The leaked summer set list "The Forgotten Emperor Castle" seems fitting to be some sort of Oni base or at least something that the Oni corrupted into as that's the only set that sounded villain-y too. If it's not and it seems to be pointing to that, then yeah, seems to be waste indeed. But I'll wait and see what it is. Still, I really do wish to have a wave of sets, y'know to make the season more epic. -

Sorry about that! I suppose that should count as a set because it's a product. Not a media. -

To be fair, DotD did use its instrumental version in some manner. But still, you have a good point there. -

To be honest, as much as I dig the Weekend Whip, I really love the intros that S.O.G. and Hunted has. Gives quite a new and a much more serious tone. But I am open to having the Weekend Whip back. I always wondered on why is there a two episode version and a 4 episode version for the pilot. Probably the same reason on why March of the Oni has a 4 episode version and a full length movie version? A bit back to the topic that thedarkmaster2 is in - If the pilot counts as season 1 then shouldn't rise of the snakes be counted as episode 3 or 5 instead of 1? So like I said, that count is restarted which is a pretty solid point that season 1 starts from Rise of the Snakes. -

JJ Tong (zfogshooterz) replied to Chilis's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Yep, agreed here. I do feel the same way too. In the set, they don't really look too bad though I will agree that 2011's version definitely looked way better there . However, I must say, they looked really super weird in the Legacy mini-movies. They seem more deader. 2011's iteration looks more 'alive" even though it's a different sort of that. -

Yeah, I am more interested in beyond too. Still, legacy's was a nice trip back into nostalgia I get from the pilot and the first two seasons. (Forgot to quote you on this.) I do think that way too but I eventually see it differently. Though the pilot have episode counts, it's restarted in Rise of the Snakes and goes all the way from there. Also, if the pilot counts as season 1, you'd have to look at S.O.G. as Season 9 and Hunted as Season 10 which is odd as many sees it otherwise. Even it's seems otherwise officially. -

JJ Tong (zfogshooterz) replied to Chilis's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I would agree that it is in a way influential but I think Legacy was just meant and intentionally focused on the Original Series which is an era. From Rebooted onwards, that is a start of another era. They could go further than the originals, but it probably would feel like another Day of the Departed again, just without the Master Yang stuffs. At least Legacy feels different. -

Man! The Legacy mini-movies really hit the nostaslgia there! The Monastery and most of the soundtrack. It just hits it! Even the format of the mini-movies is very similar to the '11! And it's pretty cool on how it's ties in to S.O.G. and Hunted too! And how the intentional graphical inconsistencies is explained is pretty neat. I'm very glad and quite stoked to finally know nothing going to be taken away from the Oni too! Looking forward to seeing on how the Oni design, sets and season is going to be. And also, thanks for letting us know on the mini-movies! -

Yeah, I would say that they do hit the nostalgia in a way to me. And I definitely do prefer this to the Airjitzu and 2018's Spinjitzu and Dragon Masters! If they just re-add the game cards and possibly have more in the next wave (as the '11 and '12 does), the nostalgia might just hit more! I, too, am quite interested in the spinner stick! Looks more fun and interesting than using your hand to spin the heads! -

Then I wonder how the golden weapons is going to fit in if that's the case. Oni taking the form of the previous villains is one thing as that's a reasonable explanation (though disappointing personally as I was looking forward to more oni designs). Still, yeah, it's too early to tell. There might be ways to fit the whole thing in and how it's done might change some perceptions. -

Well, I guess I forgot to add, if season 10 has sets. Or you didn't notice the Oni Silhouette at the end of the teaser just before the title was shown. But seriously, I would really find really odd for this to happen. The big special that just being throwbacks? The big threat that's built up just being portrayed as previous villians? And that silhouette of the Oni at the end does look really good and it definitely doesn't looks like Legacy's Overlord. It'll be a shame if there's nothing on them. -
I find the set to be really bizarre but still cool nonetheless! The one thing I'm quite glad that this set existed is that there is a place where all the Apocalyseburg related sets could converge together should we decide to amass a collection of TLM2 sets. I totally did not expect Scribble Cop and Where are my Pants guy to be there! That was a pleasant surprise. And yeah, I find Suicide Squad Harley Quinn to be quite an odd inclusion as there's already TLBM Harley Quinn in the TLM universe. But then, there's 2012 Green Ninja and TLNM Lloyd, so....

That's one badass defender there! I just love how it looks there. Those legs, ammo belt and the Range Trooper's helm really adds and gives off the tough commando vibes! Normally, I wouldn't prefer to use Galidor parts for action figures mocs but I have say that torso really give that defender a nice and interesting flavor there. With it's design and the inclusion of purple, I don't think I can imagine anything better that would be more suitable. Also that minigun is dope and I, too dig the use of friction joints as ammo clips. Thanks for sharing this!

Ooh! I'm definitely looking forward to see this! March of the Oni is quite an interesting name for the season! Me too! I am excited to see how it actually looks. This shows that the Oni minifigures could be promising. Also looking forward to the sets too since it's said that they're going to be good! Also by the way, this is interesting - Season 10 teaser youtube description: "Bringers of doom, darkness, and destruction descend upon NINJAGO, and all hope seems lost. The ninjas must fight off the Oni invasion β but how can they defeat this destructive power and protect the NINJAGO legacy? There isnβt much time left - is this the end of NINJAGO, or will good defeat the powers of evil? Relive the NINJAGO legacy! Build your own ninja stories, and find more LEGO NINJAGO videos here on YouTube or LEGO.com/NINJAGO" There are aspect of Legacy in it. Since it was said that there will be some other Ninjago content coming before the special, maybe that's how legacy will tie in before the special? Or the content could just be the Legacy sets itself? -
The Best and Worst of 2018
JJ Tong (zfogshooterz) replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I never liked stuff like Funko Pop in the first place, so I can see why I didn't really like Brickheadz either. Also the overreliance on liscensed stuff for the line (even though that's how it works) was also another factor of why it just didn't appeal to me. Well, different strokes for different people there. Since I am opening to Brickheadz (due to it now also part of the seasonal sets which results in having non-liscensed assortments) like I said, I might want to start collecting them (seasonals) in the future. To me, the seasonal one looks way interesting than the licensed aspect as then they start to look more like their own rather than just be depending on licensed stuffs. (Wow, I'm repeating stuff like this a lot haha). Also plus I think I'm getting intrigued on how therapeutic this could be. I've not experienced this kind of builds yet too, so this should be interesting.- 57 replies
