Yeah, but they're still recognisable.

That's what I was wondering. But I think the Ninjago Movie holds the answer; it's pretty clear that Ninjago City is not part of The Man Upstairs' basement. The tea shop owner, the one played by Jackie Chan; I think he has his own display of Ninjago City somewhere, independent of the Man Upstairs and Finn. This means that Lego Gotham City has to correspond to a third diorama somewhere else, which therefore implies that the LEGO Batman from The Lego Batman movie and the LEGO Batman from The Lego Movie are actually separate characters. Which might also explain why we didn't see Robin, Batgirl or Alfred, and the trailer implied they wouldn't be there. (Which sucks, because post-apocalyptic Batman looks so cool that I want a full set.) Well, that or The Lego Batman Movie is set before the Duplo Invasion; maybe Taco Tuesday was just a sort of 'first battle' thing - the description said that the Duplos destroyed things faster than the heroes could rebuild. This implies that they tried rebuilding; perhaps there was a time of a sort of 'cold war' between Bricksburg and Duplo, and at one point things were stable enough that Batman felt he could return to Gotham for a bit? This makes sense in terms of the 'Finn vs his sister' mechanic too; if his sister playing with Duplo in his stuff ruined his fun and drove him into a Dark Age, that wouldn't have happened instantaneously. It would have taken a period of months or years. Yeah, now that I've thought it all through, I like the second theory more. But the important thing is that Jackie Chan definitely has a massive Ninjago City display in his basement.

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion

Having rewatched a couple of episodes of Unikitty! (the cartoon), I noticed that the 'Angry Kitty' that appeared in 'Fire and Nice' seems pretty similar to the Mega-Kitty (I refuse to call anything other than Unikitty's mother Unicat; as I am certain that it is only a matter of time until the show introduces Unikitty's mother for at least an episode or two.) we've seen. Possible foreshadowing? -
I know, right? I hope that the occamy is a precursor to some kind of brick-built snake for Elves next year. Enough dragons, we want more diversity! That is, assuming that Elves continues into next year . . but, given the high likelihood that Elves will at least cameo in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, I'd say the odds are good that we aren't done with Elvendale quite yet.

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
Fenghuang0296 replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Brilliant! I was scratching my head at first, but this makes perfect sense! That said, I don't think we should expect to see much Duplo in the sets. I always thought it was unlikely that they'd put System and Duplo parts together in the one set; people will be reluctant to pay higher prices, and the trailer seemed to imply that the Duplos came and wrecked everything, but aren't there now, Also, I am just laughing and laughing about the fact that Sweet Mayhem has a sticker gun. And Batman seems to be horrified by being covered with decals. It's a hilarious nod to that portion of the AFOL community who's opposed to stickers. And oh, man, it seems like the 'SisStar' system is going to be a major setting. Which might be strange, since there have only been three mini-doll themes to date; Friends, Elves and Super Hero Girls. The latter of which got cancelled last year, so I doubt it will have much presence in the movie. As a growing fan of Elves, I really hope the theme has some presence in the movie and sets. Even if it's as small as the Wild West part of the first movie. Yep. Even Emmet's printing is looking a bit scratched. Bothers me a little, to be honest . . -
The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion

. . . There's a Special Themes subforum? Oh . . sorry, my bad. I thought this stuff only goes in Licensed, Action/Adventure, or Town. (Which does pretty thoroughly cover all the stuff Lego puts out.) And amen! I want spaceships! And not boring, realistic spaceships like Star Wars. Goofy, silly, fun things! I want a Unikitty Rocket! -
Marvel Superheroes 2018 - Set Discussion
Fenghuang0296 replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
So, has anyone seen Sweet Mayhem from the new stuff for the Lego Movie 2? Because it could be just me, but her helmet looks like it would make a pretty damn good Wasp helmet if they recoloured it, maybe for an updated fig in the future? Makes it kind of a shame that Ant-Man and the Wasp didn't happen next year rather than this year . .- 3,962 replies

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion

Crow's Nest? Oh, that is cool. And I see what you mean about Unikitty, now; she looks so cool! Yep, definitely an apocalyptic vibe - if the sinking Statue of Liberty and the fact that Batman is wearing wheels on his shoulders didn't already tip us off to that. (On a semi-related note, those tyre shoulder pads look like they should totally be on one of the Dragon Hunters over in Ninjago.) This is gonna be so cool! -
The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
Fenghuang0296 replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Saw Sweet Mayhem. Yes, that is definitely a mini-doll. Looks like they've created a new shoulder armour part for mini-dolls. Interesting thing is, I'm not getting a 'villain' vibe from her. I think Sweet Mayhem might actually be some kind of anti-hero, or even a new addition to the main cast. I'm thinking it could be that the Duplos are some sort of alien oppressors, and in the process of rebelling against them, the heroes enter the worlds populated by mini-dolls, and ally with some mini-doll revolutionaries. -
@LegoMyMamma Thanks! That's really helpful!

Well, the first poster for The Lego Movie 2 has officially been unveiled. Now, it could be just me, but those proportions don't look look like that of a minifigure. They seem far more reminiscent of a mini-doll. I'm also noticing that several of the main characters are getting appearance changes - Wyldstyle has new goggles molded into her hair, as well as what looks like a scarf and bow combination, while Batman has shoulder pads that look like they're made out of car wheels, and . . I have no idea what's going on with Unikitty. Also, Metalbeard look so like he's completely differently built; more streamlined and less bulky, so that'll be cool to see. I hear we're getting our first trailer tomorrow. Hopefully we'll find out whether mini-dolls are indeed the antagonists then.

I don't suppose you could give me an estimate? Assuming the surface is standard official road baseplates?

Oh my god, the Suitcase set looks incredible. I particularly like the Occamy and how it's scaled - you can either consider it to be 'massive'; relative to a minifigure, or 'tiny'; relative to an actual person. The Thunderbird looks epic, too; so happy that they used pearl gold and not tan. Especially with those brilliant dual-molded wings. And it actually folds up into a suitcase! I mean, I don't think the Beasts will fit inside the suitcase, but it's still totally awesome. Kind of reminds me of the TARDIS, actually. Oh my god, I just thought of something. What if Newt's creatures actually live in a Time And Relative Dimension In Suitcase? XD

Can anyone who's already gotten a couple of the new sets tell me how far the launcher bits actually launch the go-karts? (I'm considering adding a little racetrack bit to my village.)
-
Oh, this is cool! I've been wanting a Lego Shop in my village - can't wait for it to become available in my area!

So, I've been noticing a recent trend; the prices of sets in Australian dollars is getting absurdly high when compared to their prices in US dollars, or most other currencies. Take the recent Sanctum Sanctorum; it's $99 USD, which equates to $130 AUD. But it retails for $170 AUD. Why is this? And it's a trend that follows through; Ninjago City Docks; $230 USD equals $300 AUD, not $350. And so on. Is there any reason that Australians are paying more for Lego than the rest of the world?

Not really, but getting a second to modify it into the 'original' Dragon Hunter version is definitely on the table. I'm sure I have some Olive green left over from China's crocodile stuff . . .

Well, that is around when the sets for the Movie would have been being designed. That's probably also part of why so much of the stuff in Day of the Departed recycled old things - old villains, sets based on locations that had already existed for a while, the Rock Roader and Ultra Stealth Raider which are both basically upgraded versions of vehicles from a few years back. Really, the Titanium Nunja Tumbler and Green NRG Dragon (which was technically a wyvern) were the only things in that wave that were totally new.

Not true. The so-called 'Day of the Departed' wave only had five sets actually focused on the Day of the Departed. The other two were a continuation of Skybound.

Accuracy isn't my concern. In the 'lore' of my village, this Lockwood Estate is a separate building to the one in the movie anyway. I'm trying to improve the actual model as something that is independent of the source material. Besides, that picture looks nothing like the actual model anyway. The roof is totally different. And the windows vastly differ too. Not to mention the shaping of the roof. Making the model look like a representation of that place is futile to begin with.

Huh? I thought there were two; Grindelwald's carriage and Newt's briefcase. Did the second one get cancelled? Didn't we already see leaked figures for Newt and Tina?

So, I got both 75930 Indoraptor Rampage at Lockwood Estate and 41340 Friendship House (which I have unconverted into a fire station), with the intention of putting the 40-stud wide Estate and 24-stud-wide House together to create a 64-stud-long facade - I.E. equal to the length of two baseplates. And I did. It looks awesome. (Incidentally, I've put more Jurassic World stuff behind it to create an interior that's partly a basement, and that's all good too.) But I find myself really turned off by how monochrome and dull the mostly-tan Lockwood Estate is. But I don't have the budget to completely recolour the whole thing. So I'm thinking the best way to make the facade pop is to take the 16 1x1x6 pillar parts around the main windows, as well as the 1x1 plates and 2x2 macaroni tiles that comprise the central window, and change them to a different colour entirely. (I'm okay with using 1x1 plates in place of 1x1 tiles.) Unfortunately, there are only three colours that all of these parts exist in; red, light bluish grey, and Pearl gold. And it's pretty obvious that red won't go well with the tan and medium dark flesh. So I'm trying to toss up between grey and gold. Is there anyone thinking something similar who can give me some advice?

Well, I've been doing some research. I'm anticipating that one of the sets will be Watchpoint: Gibraltar, and include Winston and Reaper. I'm also hoping for something set in Nepal, with Genji. Which will hopefully fit in well with Ninjago stuff. And I guess Hanzo too. Still hoping for Tracer (because she's cool) D.Va (because mech) and Mercy (because robot angel wings), and now I really want Mei (because she's really cool) and Bastion (both because I like him and I want to see how they'll build him) too. Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if they made a set that was mostly D.Va and her mech at a scale similar to the Hulkbuster . . . now I want a set like that. You can never have too many mechs.
