The Royal Society of Navigation and Discovery
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
17th day of the 6th month, 618 King's Harbour, Cocovia To the Secretary of the Royal Society of Navigation and Discovery, as well as its vice presidents, as chairman I consider it one of my duties to ask inconvenient questions. One of those is: how do we handle the WTC? I am well aware of the reputation of the WTC. But I am equally aware of their efforts to grow Corringtons might in Terra Nova, and they have without question achieved a lot in the past months. I believe them to be a valuable asset for the challenges ahead of us. We would be ill-advised to push them away. As a result, I would like to see young Mr. Zumbro among our ranks. It is without doubt that he lacks any meaningful qualification, and I can already see the trouble he will cause in the future. Having said that, I believe by giving him some position where he can cause no big harm we can kill two birds with one proverbial stone: binding the WTC to our common cause, as well as keep this reckless rascal from causing much more chaos by being left unchecked. I consider this a small price to pay for the ressources of the WTC to have at our command. With kind regards, and long live the Queen, Wilbur Epper II. Chairman of the RSND ========================================================================== @Bregir @LM71Blackbird @Ayrlego For any OOC questions and/or discussions: please take this to the PM. I consider this the place for IC replies only. -

I think every player can makes his/her own decisions. No need do be rude. Other than that: what I do or do not with my ingame money is none of your business. -
[COR] Medium Sugar Plantation
Darnok replied to Flavius Gratian's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Indeed, looking great, well worth the effort! -
Wilbur Epper II. had chosen his words carefully and answered with calm yet firm voice: "Your offer is a great honour, thank you Sir Campbell. It would be foolish to decline such an opportunity, and you are not standing in front of a fool. I am honoured and accept. I trust in your judgement concerning the remaining open positions for the RSND. Once those are filled I will present my strategy for our first steps."

[COR COOP] Grand Rum Factory of Port Raleigh
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks everybody for the nice comments so far. I kind of agree, but keep in mind that this is a cooperation between different players. It is not the only way to do it of course, but splitting it up into smaller builds is just the simplest solution to let different builders contribute. It might be an idea for people with very little time at their hand to get bigger projects done (@Capt Wolf comes to mind): split up a larger build into smaller ones, build one small part at a time, make pictures, repeat until done. That way one can work at the pace possible, instead of being stopped by toughts of "this is way too big, I will never get it done!". For most people it is more fun to build bigger though, at least that is my impression so far. So I do not see this becoming the standard outside of coop projects (and even there it is not necessary at all). Bigger builds are and will be the norm I believe. -
Thanks! I aim to amuse. I did not know that actually, interesting! Historical accuracy has never been my goal in BotBS though, I consider it more as guidelines, to quote a famous pirate. It always is. Thank you. All my buildings have interiors, so it was happening sooner or later - later in this case...

[TSotEP] 15 - The Grand Finale (2/2)
Darnok replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As the Professor said: brilliant stuff! I loved the "MiB" idea, as well as the conclusions to all the different story arcs going on - so well done! I am already looking forward to what those characters have coming up next (Captain Cookie is my favourite). It also seems that apart from a Crab civilisation we also have an underground society of monkeys in BotBS! Loving it! -
[COR ML] Harbour Administration, Mesabi Landing
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As promised, the OP has been updated with additional pictures (including the interior). Thanks for the comments so far. -
Mordo of the WTC was not amused. "What do you mean, we can't just build more ships?". The WTC Operator tried to calm him down: "It is just some forms to be filled, the Crown demands proper paperwork or something..:" They were on their way to the Harbour Administration: Inside, they were greeted by an office worker: "Greetings, Mr. Mordo. I just have had a look at the ships the WTC has in action all over the Brick Seas. I assume you are coming to raise the ship levels? MARIA, GET US FORM AC-73/b!" "On my way, it must be in one of the drawers over here..." Mordo replied, slightly relieved: "So the paperwork is accounted for? Good. Just don't screw this up, we need more ships, and we need them soon." ===================================================================== Using the interior of this build, with this I will raise my shiplevel. As always, C&C are appreciated.

Port Raleigh was buzzing with activity these days. Multiple sugar plantations - some smaller, some bigger - has been set up over the last weeks, with a first sugar mill already processing the raw sugar cane. Local authorities have decided to build on this foundation by setting up a Grand Rum Factory: 1. Delivering the raw materials (by LM71Blackbird) First the sugarcane is transported from the plantation to the factory, usually on carts: 2. Storing the raw materials until procession (by LM71Blackbird) Once delivered, the sugarcane is stored in the factories warehouse: 3. Creating the mash (by Ayrlego) The first step in production is to crush the sugar cane and mix it with water and yeast - thus creating the mash that is the basis for the following steps: 4. Fermenting the mash (by Ayrlego) The mash is allowed to rest, so the sugars are transformed into alcohol. Carefully stirring the mash allows the mash to ferment evenly: 5. Distilling the fermented mash (by LM71Blackbird) After fermentation, the mash is distilled in huge tanks: 6. Filling the distilled rum into barrels (by LM71Blackbird) After the distillation is finished, the rum is filled into barrels: 7. Storing the barrels for ageing (by Ayrlego) Once the rum is done and filled into barrels, it has to be stored to age: Inside: Street view: 8. Filling the finished rum into bottles (by Spud the Viking) After reaching the right age, the rum is filled into bottles. It seems like the content of those bottles is not for everyone: Inside: Street view: 9. Transporting the bottled rum away (by Spud the Viking) Finally, the rum is transported away, to be sold to thirsty customers: ================================================== This thread will collect all builds for a faction cooperation of Corrington. The goal is to set up a large rum factory in Port Raleigh. We decided to approach this project by splitting the 48x48 footprint into 9 builds of 16x16 each, covering the following aspects of rum production: Material delivery: the sugarcane arrives at the premise. Material storage: the sugarcane is stored for further procession. Creating the mash: crushing the sugarcane and mixing it with water and yeast. Fermenting the mash. Distilling the fermented mash. Filling the distilled rum into barrels. Storing the barrels for ageing. Filling the finished rum into bottles. Transporting the bottled rum away. This split-up has lead to some fast results over the last days, with positive comments about the procedure. So if others want to copy this idea: please do so, it works well for us. I will update this post over the next days and weeks with the builds still to come. Once all nine builds are done, this cooperation will be licensed as a large factory. Comments and questions are appreciated!

Darnok replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Just noted I had not commented on this - D'Oh! Another great build from you! Clear lines, lots of different structures, some interesting details - well done. I wonder how stable the windwheel is? That giant watermill already looks impressive! Really curious how that one will turn out. -

I do know the feeling all too well, but rest assured: there will be new ones. The second main challenge is right around the corner, and later this summer there should be this years New Terra Soccer Cup. Many of us are looking forward to both. -

I have a football stadium in the works - the World Cup just started - and wanted to ask in advance: what category would fit best? In the real world it would be 100% "commerce" for sure, but I guess "art and culture" fits best. -
A wonderful build and a well-written story. I like the variety of colours and textures used on the walls - looking great and making more than clear that Oleanders can not build properly. I feel like we see the preperations for even more upcoming warcrimes by Oleon here...

Good. Personally I think that while the "quest for the sweetest fruit" on Argentia had its moments, it also felt frustrating at times. Getting to know an existing bonus in a reasonable time is good news. -

Tenth day of the sixth month, 618 Mesabi Landing, Argentia To whom it may concern at the Royal Society of Navigation and Discovery, my name is Kadeus Mordo, and I speak to you in the name of the royally chartered Wayfarer Trading Company. It has come to my attention that a certain Joseph Zumbro has applied for a leading position in your society. I urge you to grant him this position, for the following reasons. Young Mr. Zumbro has time and again proven his worth* in a variety of situations**, always*** exceeding expectations****. You are already aware of his colourful educational history, which did prepare him for all kinds of challenges*****. Mr. Zumbro is a charming, intelligent and hardworking gentleman, who would be an invaluable asset to your society and all its endeavours. He will never let you down, he will never betray the trust you put in him. I can highly recommend him for the many qualities he has, and I am sure he will prove to have many more in the future. The WTC would be honoured to send Joseph Zumbro to serve your organisation. Long live the Queen, Kadeus Mordo * ... he was kind of nice once ** ... actually only that one time *** ... as in "never" **** ... which are REALLY low ***** ... this is getting silly - just assume the opposite of everything I am writing from now on P.S.: Back to seriousness again. If all else fails, I am sure you can find something for him. Just take him. Send him... whereever. We actually do not care for him. Is sailing not still dangerous these days? How about an accident on the high seas? Or in the case of hostile encounters - you will surely need a bullet magnet? Maybe you meet cannibals: last time I checked he was well fed. Seriously, just take him! ======================= @Ayrlego @Bregir: Please consider this recommendation from an important WTC official.

[COR - FB] Spud Plantation in Port Raleigh
Darnok replied to Spud The Viking's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Now that is a proper "southern states style" plantation, great job! The house is very impressive. I like the two gardens, as well as the different stages of growing taters. Well done! -
Currently the AS sheet starts with Camp Isaac. Mays settlement growth is also not yet accounted for.
-
Thanks. It is actually a postcard with a scene from not too far away. Roughly this view at evening. I usually pass this spot when I take a medium walk.
-
Well, other grossly unqualified people get jobs in politics and management all the time - some even at the highest positions - so I do not see how this could possibly go wrong. Best of luck!

Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
My application is up: -
King's Harbour, in the office of Commander Reginald Francis. (I noticed the hair only now...) The Commander looked up from a map: "Epper, what is it that brings you to me?" "Sir, I want to hand in my application for the Vice President of Operations for the Royal Society of Navigation and Discovery. I know you have trusted me with other affairs, so I trust you will hand this to the right hands in time." "Ah my boy, what an unfortunate development. I of course respect your will to move to a more challenging and possibly prestigious position. You have done a great job with the Royal Wagonway though, and I would hate to lose such a competent man. King's Harbour still has a lot to offer for a man of your talents." "Sir, I am thankful for your kind words, and will always remember the opportunities the Crown has given me here. I do believe I can do more though. We have great challenges ahead of us as a nation, and I wish to do my part on the frontier. Sir, we will meet again, I promise." And with that, Wilbur Epper II. left Commander Francis, musing over what the future might bring while looking at King's Harbour under the evening sun. The application letter read as follows: The ninth day of the sixth month, 618 King's Harbour, Cocovia Dear Sirs and Ladies of the Royal Society Society of Navigation and Discovery, I, Wilbur Epper II., hereby apply for the position of Vice President of Operations. I have faithfully served the Crown on the island of Cocovia for years, with my most prominent achievement becoming the Royal Conductor of Corrington for my work on the wagonway between King's Harbour and Quinnsville. This should be proof for my ability to handle peaceful foreign relations and complicated operations, as well as forwarding construction projects in difficult terrain. I wish to apply these abilities to new fields, and to lead whereever the Crown sends me. Long live the Queen, Wilbur Epper II.
