It's nothing major, I'm just poking fun at @Bregir...

Hearsay from unreliable sources. I rest my case!
-
Let's just say that I am still waiting for an AMRCA result from early September. Other than that: fair enough, I respect the reasons given by @Capt Wolf.
-
None of this is more than hearsay from unreliable sources (at best). I demand actual proof!

Are your troops even trustworthy? Have they seen combat - and succeeded? I find this offer to be pretty dubious. Show me - and the rest of the Brick Seas - wht your self-proclaimed "mercenaries" can do. Raid some settlement of value, let them show their battle prowess. Then we can talk.

The forts and soldiers of Mesabi Landing could use some target practice. You are welcome to provide some.

I think this deadline is too soon, and I want to explain why. We have Christmas upcoming, and I doubt any building will get done during these days. I also know that I feel more than lazy "between years", and believe many do feel the same way. That is not even taking into account the two mini-challenges we have currently running. So... why so soon? If anything, the MRCAs are not delayed by their deadlines, but by the process coming afterwards. Would a later deadline not help relax the "building tension" for everybody as well as give more time to you guys behind the scenes to get stuff sorted out for the next turn? How about the 22nd? Two more weeks in general, with both mini-challenges done, and some time on top. People can relax during the holidays and then get back to building. Sounds like a win-win situation for everybody to me.

I can not take credit for that one, as it (mostly) comes from last years Lego City Advent Calendar. I only removed the brown plate and put it on a white turntable, to have it aligned differently.

Day 17 - And so the cookie crumbles With all the activity around the huge Merrynight Tree, Chef Curtis could not leave this opportunity go to waste. He quickly set up a booth to sell his cookies, with a gingerbread house featuring prominently to attract customers.

Yeah sure, quote things that are results of the past to argue for changes that were made in the last weeks. Also, only selectively quote statistics to support your point. Either discuss honestly, or do not bother...

[WTCM] WTC Monthly - Issue 11, October 618

Be advised that the following video contains some advertisement towards the end. It does show the making of "ship biscuits" similar to the recipe above: My version of the recipe comes from a different source, and there are some minor differences, but overall both will give a very similar result. -
Daily Life in Myzectlan - A Small Collaborative Challenge

True. As usual, the Sea Rats are the first to promote cheating! -
Not at all. The Black Flag status is available for everybody, that is correct. But Sea Rats gain a lot of boni no other faction gets - some, but not all, related to BF ships. I agree with the opinion that every faction should have some sort of bonus going for them, and this has been handled well with property rules in the past. Apart from that, each faction is defined by its background more than by its rules - as an example, Corrington and Oleon players play by more or less the exact same rules, but still represent a different feeling of the game. Whatever you define a "pirate faction" as: it is still just a different flavour of the same game, something you express by builds and stories. While Sea Rats might want some benefits for "playing pirates", the current situation is taking it way too far. Right now Sea Rats have the "best" rules. If Corrington is the nation of science, why are our ships not strictly better than others? Free status points for us! If Eslandola is all about trade, why should they not get a flat 20% bonus on trade income? Free doubloons for them! If Oleon is all about faith and gods, why not let them benefit from miracles? One of their ships sank... no it did not, praise the gods! This might come across as a bit harsh, but you are essentially argueing that "my interpretation of the background demands special rules" - and that can swing both ways. Why not? By that same arguement, other fields of the game should be much more skewed towards other factions. They are not. And I do not wnat them to be. I would appreciate a level playing field for everybody, which we currently do not have. Having said all that: if these rules changes lead to an unbalanced game in favour of Sea Rats, and we get a "Sea of Thieves" environment as a result of that... hohum, I can live with that too!

Daily Life in Myzectlan - A Small Collaborative Challenge

Sorry for the double post, but I think this one deserves its own. So originally I only wanted to do another little shop for my Merrynight Market build, and thought about a plant usually called "Christmas Star". When doing some background reading, it came as no little surprise to me that these were first cultivated by the Aztecs, who used the red for dying fabrics and the sap for medical purposes. The Myzec people are clearly based on the Aztecs, so I already put a link between them and the "Merrynight Star" into my builds story linked above. While an active "export business" is nothing that would make sense for the Myzec, some plantation build(s) would still be reasonable. Showing the plants being used for dying cloth would make for another good factory, and a shaman producing a medicine from the sap and using it to cure somebod could be an artisan. I hope this gets somebody inspired. -
Day 16 - Stars for sale Back at the workshop, Mordo discussed with Chrissi: "This whole show will only run for another week or so, what will we do with this place once it is over?" She replied: "Well, toys are a profitable business, so I think we should keep it operational. New shiny stuff every six months or so, overpriced of course. Ripping off kids and their parents is easy!" "Hohum, good idea to be honest. Make it so!" Meanwhile, at the marketplace Merrynight Stars were on sale. Just recently introduced from the Myzec people, the bright red flower had become a common Merrynight decoration in many minifig households.

Great microbuild! The essence of the scene is captured nicely, and the story supports it well.

As I said: I think this is entirely in character for the faction, and I am not questioning it in that regard. What I start to get annoyed with is that the SR faction got bonus after bonus handed to them lately, with no downsides attached to any of them. Unless the other factions get something similar too - no idea what you have in store for the game, but I would argue against even more faction-specific "special rules" - I just want this to stop. Sea Rats are by now strictly better than the other factions in a lot of fields. If your attempt was to balance them, I call this a classical overkill. Given this, I feel like an AMRCA is too much of an "investment" to get rid of a hideout. Remember that every player can only have one AMRCA at a time (exceptions apply, like trade companies). To be fair, this could bring a solid in-game "upgrade" to trade companies: since they can start AMRCAs of their own, having anti-hideout ones running parallel to other player ones is a huge benefit. Still, I think it is a lot of effort for not much of a reward. Even taking trade companies into account, AMRCAs are very limited. When a hideout can simply be set up again after it was found, what is the real benefit for the player searchign for it (apart from some doubloons)? Weigh that against the things you can do (and gain) from a normal AMRCA, and I can not see "hideout hunts" to be very popular options.
-
What you describe is exactly what the Black Flag is made for. You still only attack the ships you select when setting up the TMRCA form. Unless you click all optios, you do not attack everyone. And being able to be picked by others (who have to specifically choose "COR (BF)" as targets) is part of the deal. You can not have your cake and eat it...
-
A few questions: I assume that a ship docking in a hideout does not generate a profit during that MRCA turn? If it does: what numbers is the profit based on? Is this on top of "blackflagged SR ships are hidden in SR ports etc." as per the last KPA? If so, this is another bonus for SR players without a negative. Why is it that SR players get this cheaper, for less effort, and in higher numbers? It makes IC sense for them, agreed. But the same could be argued for any other faction. As it is, this feels like yet another bonus for SR players, with no downside at all. If a hideout is found by an AMRCA: at what point can that same island be used again for another safe hideout by the same player? Meaning: if such a "rat hunt" is successful, at what point is the island "safe" again for a hideout? Somewhat related to #4: is there a way to prevent a hideout being set up in some way? I might be missing something, but right now it seems to me as if I could - as an example - set up a hideout next to Breshaun, until an AMRCA soecifically aimed to find it gets lucky, and the next turn I could set it up again. Does a hideout pay any form of upkeep, or is this already included in the initial cost?
-
Really, really cool idea. The rules implementation looks solid at first sight. Maybe the next MRCA turns will show some issues, but I see nothing that can not be solved by some playtesting. Many thanks to whoever was part of coming up with this! Another nice addition to gameplay, opening up a variety of thigns that were not possible before.

Brilliant build, I am at a loss of words! If this was an UCS set, I would buy it! P.S.: What would the parts cost, as a rough estimate?

Beautiful build, a clean and simple depiction of the production process. Well done! I always consider artisans to be more of a "production and sale" sort of property (I think it is called "artisan's [sic] shop" for a reason here). Also the factories definition describes it as " a production facility [...] where raw materials are brought to in order to produce a manufactured product" - a perfect fit for this build in my opinion.

Day 15 - Toys! The new Merrynight tree on the plaza quickly gained attention. Local traders were eager to set up a Merrynight Market. A first booth was set up soon, with wooden toys on sale: The shop owner explained: "See, I produce fine wooden toys, and these soldiers and cannon are a favourite with the kids. The soldiers with their black boots, white trousers, red uniform and brown hats on their heads, the cannon in shiny black with finely crafted moving wheels! The kids can replay the glorious victories of the Crowns armies with these - massacre the legions of your teddy bears with them! Endless fun!

Some very nice builds already! I am definitely inspired by this, and have many ideas. Some long reading last night, some BL orders... I hope I have the time to do it all.
