[OOC] Organising the rebuild of Mesabi Landing
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As I said: I like the build. Since this one is not meant to be licensed, the usual rules do not apply anyway. I think as a scene on its own it works perfectly fine. The approval of this build is not my decision. By my count, this is of a 32x32 size (with some minimal overlap), and @Bregir, @Capt Wolf, @Phred and others have to decide if it meets their criteria or not. -
[OOC] Organising the rebuild of Mesabi Landing
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A short disclaimer, hopefully avoiding any confusion: the following is my very personal opinion and nothing more. To me, any decision on what should or should not be included in the overarching storyline for this is up to @Mesabi. While I have contributed a lot to Mesabi Landing, and consider it my project as much as his, in the end it is "his baby". And like with player characters: in regards to Mesabi Landing the final word will always be his. I like the overall idea, but in a way you might not like. See, the Order has no presence in Mesabi Landing. In my opinion the recent desaster has proven one thing: the "Old Gods" have sent their cruel wrath down upon the citizens, for reasons unknown to mortals. If anything, they will turn to the priests that have always cared for them already, which are those of Prometheus. So "heretical literature" would be that of the Order, corpses would be those of the believers of the Old Gods. If you want to depict that story: be our guest! But anything related to the Order would make no sense in my opinion, your priests would most likely get stoned (and possibly eaten... fat men who have never worked in their life, food shortage and all that ). A lovely build, and I absolutely love the Monthy Python reference! I feel like if exemplifies the very things some builds for Mesabi Landing got criticised for in the past for: a relatively big amount of open space only a little bit of scenery, mostly in terms of prefab parts some very basic architecture in the background some minifigs making up a scene that could be done on a lot less space I do like the build, no questions asked. But it has a lot of the same structural elements that got Mesabi Landing into this whole situation to begin with. -
[SR-KPA Reaction] For whom the Bell Tolls
Darnok replied to Roadmonkeytj's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
We did think about a horse meat factory for some time already, but right now a new factory is a bit low on the list of priorities! -
[OOC] Organising the rebuild of Mesabi Landing
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
For the ease of future reference: WIP builds: "For Whom The Bell Tolls" by @Roadmonkeytj (1000 studs) "Walking the ruins" by @Mesabi (500 studs) "Cobbling Together a Street" by @Mesabi (2300 studs) [link] by [name] (suggested stud size) Approved builds: "The Flooded District" by @Mesabi (512 studs) [link] by [name] (approved stud size) This matter has been resolved. -
Due to recent events the settlement of Mesabi Landing is in a peculiar situation. This thread is meant to cover the OOC organisation of the builds associated with this, as well as all questions and discussions that come with it. So what is this all about? This IC setup has been provided, with the following OOC guidelines on how to proceed: [Source] Of course anybody is invited to help with this. @Mesabi has to do the majority of work, but since the requirements are minimums, there is a lot of room for everybody to contribute. Later on, there will be a seperate thread for the final builds and their stories - so there is one place for a continued story to be told. So in this thread: any questions about the technicalities can be brought up and answered possible contributions from other players can be discussed WIP builds can be shown and feedback be given approval on builds can be declared I say: bring it on!

[ESL - Troop raising] Patrolling in Trador
Darnok replied to Maxim I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice facades there! Where are those torsos from? Ahem... one WTC ship in Trador (unvoluntarily!) between October and December a massive fleet of four (!) ships between August and October as many as three ships back in July none in May or June none way back in April (versus six from Terraversa and seven from Eslandola) none in February or March you might notice a pattern: none in January either Poor propaganda you have there, fake news I say! -
[AMRCA RSND] The Grand Expedition - Part I
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Chapter II - Setting up camp With the ships of the expedition securely at anchor and sheltered in the small cove, a landing party was swiftly sent ashore. The intrepid Corlanders scrambled up the rocky path and a makeshift lookout was established at the top of the cliff. At this time, four ragged Halosians emerged from the jungle much to the surprise of the explorers. These men turned out to be shipwrecked Garvian sailors and they provided great insight into the surrounding environment. With the initial survey complete, Epper was satisfied with the expeditions position. The cove offered a great natural shelter for vessels and the surrounding cliffs made it easily defensible. The natural path up from the small sandy beach while step and rugged, could be be enlarged with a little hard work and a small clearing at the top seemed a natural position for an initial camp. Orders were given and the expedition swiftly began work on makeshift shelters and securing fresh water. . Questioning the Garvians revealed the island was inhabited, although the natives tended to remain well inland. More interesting to the Corlanders were the stories of massive flightless birds. This of course piqued the interest of the expeditions naturalists. More importantly it seemed the abundant bird life offered plenty of readily obtainable fresh meat. Indeed, cutting down the jungle was hard work - but necessary to build a permanent presence - and the rations from the ships had long lost the favours of the troops, sriously dampening the morale... . Clutchington and Blackwood led parties into the jungle to both find food and document these strange and exotic creatures. Note: We have chosen Options 2 and 3, 'I refuse to eat salt beef' and 'God Save the Queen, it's all in the name of Science' Hunting Party by LM71Blackbird Once clear of the Paradise Isles, the expedition's Marines quietly exchanged their white pants for more practical brown. Their tricornes were also exchanged for wide brimmed hats that offered better sun protection. Both Clutchington and Blackwood took a much more practical approach to their mission than some officers back home might appreciate! Hunting Party - Discovery by Ayrlego The first flightless birds discovered by the party were much smaller than anticipated. Around the size of a turkey, these creatures were abundant. The group had barely left the clearing before stumbling across them! A couple were promptly shot to investigate their suitability as food. Hunting Party - Camp by Ayrlego The Corlanders quickly agreed, these birds were tasty indeed! Or maybe they had been too long at sea on salt beef and biscuits! Meanwhile Blackwood and his Sergeant (who so far steadfastly refused to swap out his tricorne and white breeches!) were investigating another potential water source when a large disturbance could be heard approaching. Quickly seeking cover, the pair were left speechless with what appeared! Observing the Moa by Ayrlego At over thrice the height of a minifig, these birds were by far the largest either man had ever seen! According the the Garvians, the natives called these monstrosities 'Moa'. Blackwood remained tracking the birds while the Sergeant was sent back to retrieve some of the RSNP naturalists to record the discovery. The party were far too awed by the specimens to even consider shooting them for food! As the Corlanders went about their business, Spud had made his own discovery... ============================================================================================== Story (mostly) by @Ayrlego, this turn we chose the second and third option (i.e. sending out a hunting party and documenting plants and animals of the island) on top of the mandatory camp build. A build by @Spud The Viking building this storyline will be posted soon in a seperate thread (for easier licensing), with the content being incorporated here as well later on. -
Chapter VI - Parting ways... for now Pip had gotten bored of this piece of land. What good was an empty tower? Climbing through rubble to get to the top? Delving into the depth of some rotten cave below? Nah, this was all wrong... In the meantime, the jungle had offered them a few pleasant surprises. Much needed surprises indeed, for they were low on supplies again. While some parts of the jungle were... just... more jungle... other places had tasty fruits. . Some of the local wildlife was easy prey, and tasted eerily similar to chicken. Mr. Thaum found a curious plant, that stored lots of water under its flower - perfect for long journeys on sea! Even a freshwater spring was found nearby! The sea was equally kind, for it provided plenty of fish: . With food and water being available plentiful again, the attention came to the ships. Some repairs had still to be done. On the Cranky Parrot... . ... as well as on the Nipper. Finally, just before Merrynight, the work was done, and Pip made a decision: "We will let "Black Squad" get the Nipper back to Mesabi Landing, together with everything we found so far. From there they will get reinforcements and return with more ships and men, to continue were we leave for now. In the meantime the Cranky Parrot will circumnavigate Calinstock, making a map of the shoreline, and wait for our return here once that is done. We will all meet again at this place, and continue this expedition with new strength!" And so the supplies were stored, with both ships getting their fair share, and the previous findings safely stored in the Nippers lower deck. . With the Cranky Parrot slowly sailing away near the coast of Calinstock, Old One Eye set course into the West... ==================================================================================== I am choosing the third option, namely "This tower is of little importance - we re still low on supply, and our vessels are damaged". This is what I have posted on the 8th, as a WIP entry for this turn, so you can compare: Some wide shots of the jungle build and the spring: . As always, C&C are appreciated.

[SR - FB 1 - Jan 619] The Red Dragon
Darnok replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Aye, a really nice ship. Lots of good detailing all around, and solid playability. Well done! I hope the ship fares well, and you have many an epic to share with your son about its upcoming adventures. -
Weelond 2nd Battalion ready for duty
Darnok replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Neat parade there! The difference between both troop types is well done (even though pikes are mighty useless in this age ). Where are those torsos from? And I assume the pikes are custom? I aso wonder if we will see more of the fort in the background? A great start for a large fortress, or a proper sized medium one already. Weelond does not really need another fort, but status baby! -
Will do so, thanks.

The "I'm going to make a ruling here" left another impression, but thanks for clearing it up. -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I think closing this one was not too smart a decision, there are quite a few question open. ...mean that he has to build 3000+ studs, or just a minimum of 4 builds? (Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to help out.) Brought up here by @Captain Dee I would appreciate an official reply from the Court, I was about to ask the same. I have a reply from @Bregir already (thanks! ), I just want to make sure it is not an individual opinion only. Other than that I would like to know how prospecting builds are handled for the time being. The use the licensing form, but do not add to the settlement growth or trade value. And an earthquake shaking up the ground makes good IC sense for finding minerals. So would this be considered something that can be "licensed" nonetheless? And I hope I am correct in assuming that, while no builds can be licensed for Mesabi Landing until May the 1st, any builds posted in the meantime can be licensed later on as usual - as long as they are not part of the "punishment builds". P.S.: @Capt Wolf @Legostone @Phred -

[COR ML] Celebrating Twelve Days Of Merrymas
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That one is shamelessly stolen from one of the new TLM2 sets. -
Merrynight had come and gone, and the unusually cold weather still held Mesabi Landing in its cold grip. This did not stop the people enjoying the Merrymas Market though, which had been build up over the last weeks: .. .. .. A few more shops had been set up, and during the Twelve Days Of Merrymas, the market was buzzing with activity: . . . . And after a successful rehearsal, some talented singers from the WTC gave their interpretation of a song popular all over Corrington during these festive days: The Twelve Days Of Merrymas On the first day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: A parrot in a palm tree. On the second day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: Two chocolate bars, .. and a parrot in a palm tree. On the third day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: Three crusty crabs, ... On the fourth day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: Four rowing boats, .... On the fifth day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: FIVE GOLD DOUBLOONS! ..... On the sixth day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: Six Corrish hens, ...... On the seventh day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: Seven shiny shakos, ...... On the eighth day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: Eight quacking ducks, ...... . On the ninth day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: Nine tasty pies, ...... .. On the tenth day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: Ten soldier puppets, ...... ... On the eleventh day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: Eleven kittens purring, ...... .... . On the twelth day of Merrymas, my Queen has given me: Twelve turkeys roasting, ...... ..... eleven kittens purring, ...... .... ten soldier puppets, ...... ... nine tasty pies, ...... .. eight quacking ducks, ...... . seven shiny shakos, ...... six Corrish hens, ...... FIVE GOLD DOUBLOONS! ..... Four rowing boats, .... three crusty crabs, ... two chocolate bars, .. and a parrot in a palm tree. ================================================================================================ To be licensed as a large commerce property for Mesabi Landing. A good part of the Merrymas Market has been shown in the WTC Advent Calendar already, but I made some amendments to make it a "full" property, mostly more shops and minifigs. Birds-eye overview: The "Twelve Days Of Merrymas" song is of course based on a very similar real song, my favourite interpretation being this one. My thanks go to both @Mesabi and @Ayrlego for helping with the lyrics. As always, C&C are appreciated.

Ha, a second third entry! Nice. Everybody: you have some hours left to either post your entry, or send me a PM asking for an extended deadline.
-
A short OOC notice: due to this event, Mesabi Landing will close its harbour for any non-WTC vessel until further notice.* Please relay any of your traffic to another settlement. Mesabi Landing is in the same zone as Jameston and Fatu Hiva, both of which offer suitably large harbours for good trading. Individual cases for this turn (and possibly later ones) can be handled with individual solutions. @Bregir has already been given an option for his Satyr for example. The offer towards @Professor Thaum still stands (no time limit has been given), he just can not use it for the time being. An IC statement will be given in due time. If anybody wishes to complain about the bad timing: direct these complaints to the Court, this is really none of my fault. * ... please note that this does not mean any WTC vessel will sail from Mesabi Landing this turn, so hold your breath about cries of "unfair!".

Kings Port Advertiser (Vol 4, Special Issue) January 619
Darnok replied to Capn Frank's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
See our PM conversation. I am not willing to take responsibility for somebody elses builds, and I have not received comments about "low quality" concerning mine. Feel free to prove me wrong. -
Kings Port Advertiser (Vol 4, Special Issue) January 619
Darnok replied to Capn Frank's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Funny how none of these have reached any of the builders responsible for those builds. And I thought this was a community of adults, able to stand up for their opinions... Obviously not friendly enough to be honest and open. This backstabbing via the court is quite asinine. Lessens learnt. Some people here should really be ashamed. -
[ESL-FB] Miraforma near Myzectlan, Cascadia
Darnok replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice build, with the vegetation being the star for sure! I really like how the build and the story works with the Myzec story overall, cool idea and well executed. Only complaint as somebody owning cats: a large cat would easily jump on a tower of that size. As for licensing: how about "art & culture"? It is not about art of course, but a cultural achievement of the Myzec for sure, and exemplary for their way of life. Opinions, @Ayrlego @Bregir?- 10 replies

5th day of the 1st month, 619 Mesabi Landing To the captains of the Vic Viper and The Eagle, currently docking in Trador. it has come to my attention how you have treated one of the ships and its crew sailing under the WTCs flag. Your behaviour can not be described as anything but honourable and gracious. We wish to thank you for that, and as a sign of our gratitude will offer both of your ships preferred treatment and celebrations the next time you sail to Mesabi Landing. With kind regards and the thanks of the Wayfarer Trading Company, Kadeus Mordo, Executive of Foreign Affairs @Professor Thaum This offer stands for an unlimited amount of time, until either the Vic Viper or The Eagle have been in Mesabi Landing. Their "port tax" will then by default be a "11" (i.e. 50DB per ship on top of whatever they gain in trading). You can choose to pick "8" instead (essentially a free small residence for a settlement of your choice).

A good review of an amazing set, thank you! I have fond memories of the Black Seas Barracuda, since it was my first big Lego set ever, and definitely one of my favourites to this day.
