Is it hard? No. Does a red or yellow brick thrown into a build as a point of reference make it easier on the builder? Yes. Why not make things as easier? If it really bothers you that much that a yellow piece is buried in your black build, by all means, swap it out.

Wow. Thank you, guys, for commenting on this and reviving it. First time I've seen this thing! Stunning... The colors are wonderful. The look & feel are perfect. The math behind it is mind boggling. Well done, sir. Very impressive. Is it possible to get the LXF file still? I would LOVE to build this with my kids. Far and away my daughter's favorite type of ride.

This is exactly why they do it. Toss in a bright brick every now an then and you get a great reference point, especially in large mono-chromatic models.

This is a very real problem for me. I keep thinking about things to build, buy the bricks and the sets, but I don't build. Paralysis by analysis I'm afraid.

I do a little of both. I build some fully fleshed out interiors, especially if I plan on doing any photography. In others, I build only limited interiors. If you can se a space through the windows, it gets an interior. I've seen some people build massive office buildings you can see right through. This just doesn't look right to me.

Initially, I had thought I wanted to build my city as a real as possible. Realistic settings, realistic people of the streets, etc. After seeing the LEGO Movie, I have changed my mind. I still plan on making a realistic town to a degree, but I will fill it with a little bit of everything. I want it whimsical. There will be Superheroes fighting crime. There will be alien invaders. There will be Simpsons. Etc.

After so deep reflection, I realized I have too many hobbies, and this causes me to not have enough time to enjoy any of them. I just recently started cutting way back to concentrate on my favorite; LEGO. I used to make intricate, detailed costumes. I just don't have the time to sew anymore, or the space. In the process of selling off all my costume pieces. I used to be big into miniature gaming. None of my friends play, and my kids are uninterested, so I've been selling them off as well. I collected WAY too many Star Wars toys over the years. Working on trading them off, or selling them outright. That being said, I do love photography and filmmaking. I plan to work these both into my LEGO hobby as well. And all money raised from hobby sales goes right back into LEGO. ;-)

Lego 10000--OMG! A Very Strange Set!
kibosh replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yes, this happened to me back in the day, too. I believe LEGO sent out replacement horses back then. -
This is absolutely beautiful. LOVE it. Though you don't see many squares like this in the US, I still might need to consider adding one to my city. Question. Are those custom built tables? If so, can you share the plans? I love how the height is adjustable. And if not, where did you get them?

I don't have a photo, but here's how I packed 16 into each without even trying: 1) used a 1x4 brick to connect two horses together, and tucked in the legs and heads, dropped into the bottom of the cup. 2) added another horse head down on each side of #1. 3) Created another horse pair as in #1, and placed on top of the the first team. This gave me a solid, dense 6-horse base. Filled in cracks with the same gems. 4) Repeat 1-3. This gets you to 12 horses. 5) Work to cram 4 more in around the top edge.

I hit the LEGO store hard yesterday. I got the new passenger train, the creator set with the bike shop and other buildings, Emmitt's Construct-o-mech, and the LEGO Movie Copper Chopper.

I control my hobby/addiction very simply. I spend NO money from our family bank account. My wife, kids, house, etc. do not suffer because of my LEGO purchases. If I want to buy new LEGO, I sell old LEGO. Simple as that.

I can always use more creator buckets!

Was the set on sale for 50% off, or did you complain about the bent corner to get the 50% off?

I agree the designs of yesteryear are boring and plain compared to those of today, but I love the old color schemes like Benny's Spaceship. I'd love to see a revival of space sets in blue and gray!

BL certainly has it's issues, but it does get the job done. With BL's long history and HUGE user base, I think it makes for a high barrier to entry for competition like BO. BO would need to offer something huge to get more people to adopt them.

Your road work is fantastic, too! I can't tell if it's an optical illusion or not, but is does the loop in the road lie on a hill? It almost looks like it all slants down from the left to the right.

This is fantastic. I thought the exact same thing when I saw that head sculpt.

So awesome..... If you don't mind, I'd like to share this with the readers of my blog. Just an incredible build. Love all the little scenes going on.

Love the windows, but those escalators seem scary steep.

I find myself listening to new country music more and more lately. I think the main reason is they never sing about anything inappropriate for my kids. Just picked up the Brantley Gilbert CD last night.

Get the Fire Brigade for sure. The Pet Shop will be around another year at least.

I think I will be taking a deep dive into trains this year, and getting the new cargo and passenger trains.

I, too, am going more for exterior realism. I build in both seats, bit only put the driver in. I have been kicking around the idea of removing the arms of the figures where they would meet in the middle. (Drivers right arm, passengers left.) This way, they could sit next to each other, and it might not be noticeable from the outside.
